Meklit Hadero: The unexpected beauty of everyday sounds | TED
Музыка
Using examples from birdsong, the natural lilt of emphatic language and even a cooking pan lid, singer-songwriter and TED Fellow Meklit Hadero shows how the everyday soundscape, even silence, makes music. "The world is alive with musical expression," she says. "We are already immersed."

She's absolutely lovely and everything is so inspirational it makes you smile. Seriously, I caught myself smiling without even thinking about it. This lady is synchronised with nature :)
Feeling all emotions of Ethio pride right now.
I love the way she delivered her talk. Her body moved, her facial expressions adjusted and her voice lilted making the talk part of her musical composition or as she said, simply "adding to the soundtrack". Beautiful talk!
Awesome!!! Extremely gifted at all levels!! Made all Ethiopians proud!!! Many blessings!!!
I smiled the whole time watching this. Beautiful talk.

Listening to her was a treat. Amazingly beautiful
I was smiling throughout this talk. Very beautiful !
What an inspirational speech it is! Highly organized and well-articulated speech presented with practical experiences from real life. Beyond her professional career as a singer, songwriter, and composer, I really appreciate her excellent presentation skill. It is both informative and entertaining at the same time. I also appreciate the way how she expressed the true nature, the richness, and the quality of Amharic language. Great job!!!
This is extraordinary! I'm amazed.
This is wonderful!!! Thanks TED! Wow I'm not mad. I was born 40% deaf I'm now OK and compose music for pleasure...I love new sounds and people. What a wonderful woman!
I am amazed at your subtle sense of hearing music around you! In everyday life, we are always running somewhere and often do not notice how much beauty is around us - nature, its sounds, its whispers... We really have something to learn from you. Thanks!🥰
I love the why you express your lovely Heritage we are love music as Ethiopian
One of the best TED's I've listened to!
I love the way you love your country. Thank you Meklit Hadero you are honorable person.
She has read my mind. I always reflect on the salsa vamp, the cowbell and timbale dialogue, that I heard as a child in the streets of Caracas, not knowing what it was I was hearing. My whole life that clank, chicky-clank followed me around in every industrial situation I encountered. Great talk
This is an excellent reflection of Art, history, pride, culture, liturgy, music, majestic humanity and nature.
A singer? Are you sure she isn't a professional speaker? This is awesome!

Um, that's part of what singing IS: 'enhanced speaking' :-)
It is easy to fall in love with this kind of speech. Thank you for letting us think beyond easily perceivable bounds. Ethiopia has a very deep culture and naturally established set of orders that embellish every day life. A lot of indigenous knowledge that needs to passes over to generations. You are amazing and your speech is very inspirational....God bless you!!!!
Eye opening (I should probably say "ear"). Great talk.
Lessen you make me feeling happy God bless you more and more !!!Ethiopia is amazing country beautiful weather and delouse food pupil from Ethiopia-are very beautiful men and woman ..❤️🌹🙏
This speech really makes you think! It’s clear that humans are immersed in music from the very first days of their lives when babies hear their parents’ lullabies and other everyday sounds but studies show that even unborn children can hear. Humans are biosocial creatures and music plays an important role both on the side of biology like the rhythm of our heartbeat and on the side of sociology and culture when every nation values music. It was really nice to listen to this comprehensive speech and I couldn’t keep from remembering one vivid example of the use of everyday sound in music - When Mama Isn't Home from the Oven Kid. It is really nice to see how such routine sounds grow into something more.
When I still had group therapy in a new building still partially under construction, sometimes there were mild clanking noises coming from the the radiators. It wasn't until I studied Tuvan/Mongolian overtone singing that I could appreciate metallic sounds. When you observe their overtones the rather sharp clanking noises become rainbows in sound form... This TEDtalk reminded me of that moment of enjoyment, inspiring!
I think shes pretty 💕 loved her personality
It's amazing that we can hear music even without it. Today I heard a strange melody while I was doing household chores and then it turned out to be "the everyday soundscape". What surprised me the most after watching is the fact that there is no absolute silence. It sounds shocking because you don't think about that your body has its own rhythm that you usually don't listen to until the moment when other sounds don't distract you. Thank you 😊
I love how sensitive she is to sounds, and how she plays with them. Meklit is encouraging me to notice the sounds of everyday, but all I saw was a beautiful radiant light. Thank you for sharing your vibrancy.
As an introvert the literal thought of never having silence is a little controversial, but i get what she said and her passion for music is something special to watch. You rock.
Extraordinary! In every endeavor of life, pausing and listening/observing gives so much inspiration. Every discovery in science, music, and technology is inspired by observing nature.
It’s really cool that this is a language-related example. This is a really big source of inspiration and I think it would increase interest in learning the languages of the peoples of the world, which are not so popular
Oh God you have such a way to express your ideas. Thankyou!
Brilliant! "The universe is alive with musical expressions"so true sister.. keep expressing yourself through music.. it is beautiful nd blissful.. thanks. love nd respect 💝👍😁
It's just awesome! Her speech is so fluent and interesting, moreover she draws examples from the real life, explaining researches which are difficult for understanting.
So inspirational! Thank you. I very much enjoyed your talk.

This woman brings a smile to my face and exudes a delightful, positive energy. This performance means more to me than just music; it embodies life itself. Amidst the rush of our daily lives, we often forget to savor its beauty. The world is inherently beautiful, yet we overlook its wonders. We chase fleeting emotions and sometimes harbor unnecessary anger towards the world and our circumstances. However, we must realize that we are the architects of our own lives. Embracing and being receptive to the world can be challenging; it requires us to listen, observe, and appreciate what it offers. Instead of taking things for granted, we should cherish them. Whenever you find yourself somewhere, take a moment to pause, inhale the fresh air, unwind, and discover something small that brings a smile to your face. Your life will be a bit easier, for sure! Love yourself and love the world!
She makes me happy
Thank you for bringing out the fact that the sources of innovation are everywhere if we pay attention.
She's inspiring, I love her delight and how she expresses the sounds. The operatic bird was interesting, it was like a study they did on crickets. She reminds me of a fun music teacher
Wonderful! This talk brings to mind Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening music - taking ambient sound in the moment and weaving her musical contribution into it. Mesmerizing! After this talk, I'll never listen to pan lids the same way. ::)
This speech really touched me, it was very interesting to listen. Sometimes you don't think about where the music comes from. Here you have told and shown clearly. It turns out that we live in a constant variety of music, but we don't think about it. Brilliant speaker, thank you🌿
I love her! I know her from around town; i feel proud. that slowed-down bird sound is delightful.
This was so powerful without even trying. Great job!
You are music yourself Meklit. ...and love your name Meklit.

Radiant expression! What a gift!
We love you. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
What a lecture! Its only been recently since I found your music. It is amazing. And yet to listen to your lectures and how you put that every sound is an inspiration... just wow. Phenomenal.
Eloquence at it best, the narrative genius in you is beyond words, loved the way you said everything.
Your speech abounds in great number of brilliant ideas and thoughts. It was a great pleasure to listen both to your language and to the melodies you had created. I really relate to the idea that the environment is musically generative (👏🏼). Music enables us to be the audience and the composers at the same time 🫠
Awesome! I don't know why but I literally cried in the end. ^_^
she's a real inspiration to others!!! Thanks so much.
I really like and appreciate your speech! Thank you so much for the information. Music is everywhere, in us, in animals, in plants and flowers ❤

Thanks for the performance! I'm really fond of your wonderful speech and I completely agree with your opinion.
