No matter your genre, every drummer has to stand in awe of this man's skills.

No other cymbal company…hell, even drum company or stick company combined come close to the level that Meinl does for metal drummers, especially death metal and all it’s iterations. It’s mind blowing to me honestly. Thank you for the visibility and the insane quality of these videos for metal drummers

Also, the fucking quality of the goddamned cymbals is damn near unbeatable. I prefer the tone of paiste rides, but pretty much everything else meinl is the king. Hell even their rides are fantastic, I just like those big bell paiste rides.

I've been waiting 12 years for this video! Lol. Until this moment we have only had live performances with bad to decent quality. This would have blown 19 year old me's mind back when it dropped. This track was the first song i ever heard from Origin/John. Its still just as insane today as it was then. Thanks for this one! Y'all just made my day. Dying Fetus and them have hands down the best live performances I've ever seen for such extreme music. Magical.

HOLY SH1T WHAT THE HELL HAVE I JUST WATCHED I'm speechless, this is the most ridiculous fcking technical and yet musical thing I've heard in my entire life... This dude is an absolute beast, a monster, a drum machine. That's the peak of metal drumming guys, we can't go further anymore with this guy Also his cymbals choice is incredibly creative. Loved how he made those beats with the two rides. Incredible job from Meinl as always, and of course from John, this needs to blow up, everyone needs to watch this

This is not the peak of metal drumming and to say so shows your ignorance. John is a phenomenal musician and one of my favorite drummers but there are numerous other drummers who are also just as good as John who continue to push the boundaries out further and further in technical drumming/music which means the peak has not been hit yet. Just a few names of drummers that are in the upper echelons of extreme metal drumming along with John are: -Anthony Barone -Lord Marco -Dave McGraw -Stocki from Cytotoxin -The Icelandic Drumming Destroyer from Ophidian I -Chase Westmoreland

John used to be way better. He's lost his pop with age imo. Still the best to ever do it

My old band opened up for Origin years ago, and I remember when talking to John for a bit, and he was telling me about the double stroke bass drum pedal technique that he was learning. To me, he was the first drummer to develop that technique. Thanks from all of us death metal drummers who now use that technique to enhance our playing brother. It's awesome to see you have gotten to be a superior force in this genre. 🤘😌

The first time I ever heard Origin, I was blown away by the intensity coupled with such supersonic speed on the drums. The riffs were great, but that drumming was inhuman. Cheers from Brazil.

Sure, great performance, but the fact that he fixes his snare tape at 6:20 without missing a beat in a song with more beats than a lot of careers is what makes this completely insane.

I had tickets to see Origin a couple years ago and the show got canceled at start of pandemic lockdowns, and the rescheduled show a couple years later got canceled due to low ticket sales. It's still one of my biggest regrets I haven't had a chance to see John play live yet, but I'm incredibly happy Meinl is able to showcase his amazing skills like this

On thing i love about John's playing is that he almost never plays a song the exact same way twice.

there's just something so organic about john's playing, that makes it very memorable

Origin is one of the first true extrem metal I listend to when I was 18, I was blown away by the technicality of the drum, impossible to process, it was (and still is) fascinating.

Seven freaking minutes? John has left the planet! Just amazing.

Finally, what we've all been waiting for! Simply untouchable, can count on 1 hand the people on the planet that would be able to rock this playthrough, and that's a "maybe". Read somewhere he perfected the double stroke bass roll technique in 6 months, truly otherworldly! Keep killing it John! 💪

I love how his drum set is a mirrored copy for both hands to play, and he actually utilizes both sides. I been drumming for 24 years now and my left hand is still the weaker side even though I focus on making it just as good as my dominant hand during practice. Been following Origin for years, and John's drumming never gets old.

His power, consistency, and clarity is absolutely disgusting!! 🤟🍻

This man has STYLE! What an absolute boss. I cannot even begin to imagine how many hours it took to get this good.

Here chef Longstreth serves us an 8 minute barrage of relentless high tempo singles and doubles without so much as breaking a sweat. A task very few can replicate.

comment will be lost, but sharing anyway. Back in 2013, my 3rd son was born. He wasn't a good sleeper and always wake up around 1h30ish and I had to wake up at 4h30 for work. I used to take him with me in my ''pc'' room in the basement, all cuddled in a soft blanket. Sat in my chair with him in my lap, powered up the computer, load up youtube and listen to Saliga while my legs inadvertently rock to that groove from hell. And that put him to sleep in a second. Fun fact, I wasn't a fan of Origin back then but that's when it all click in!

This man's a tank, just keeps going. He sometimes plays drums for two different bands on the same tour (Origin and Misery Index as a recent example). Sick video I'll watch it a few times for sure.

Really, as a progressive metal drummer who has seen tons of crazy sht but rarely anything like this - I'm left speechless, too. I can only speak for myself, a self taught drummer, but I understand the things I play more like a coreography, like a dance around the kit. I usually don't write my parts in advance but they develop from trying stuff with my band mates or drumless demos they recorded. At some point after enough practice, it's just a sequence of things you do, muscle memory kicks in. If you think "Oh yeah, in two bars I need to do that thing", you're not there yet. Sometimes in rehearsal, it's tricky to start in the middle of a part because I don't have the cues from the part before, but other than that, the whole song from front to back is a sequence my body just knows to reproduce. Most of the time at least... And most fckn certainly not on this level.

John is just one of the members of Origin kid. He isn’t the sole member of Origin because every member of that band is an absolute beast at there craft and a vital part of the band. That even goes for the past guitarists, vocalists, and drummer that have also been apart of Origin in the past.

Back in the early 90s and even late 80s when my bandmate made the immolation logo….. you’re so awesome!!!!! JON has spent the night over at my home few times along with Rutan and several other bands…. He is considered family!!!!!
