    I love the ride and crash accents he does while blasting, many syncopated - this whole video is seriously advanced shit. the way he incorporates both hands into the snare hits in his blasts...I've said before, I'll say it again: John is a one-man drumline.

    the combination speed, power, grace, and tastefulness in his playing is absolutely unmatched. Look at him, incorporating all those cymbal accents while constantly blasting, without even breaking a sweat. That hand technique of his is just so simple but so effective, it's just elegant.

    See Longstreth has like a controlled fury about his playing. Very primal but super logical if that makes sense. He's a true master whatever you think of technique, he's mastered a style that's really unique and technical with a lot of underlying groove.

    I keep coming back to this. I can't think of any other drummer in death metal that incorporates so much artfulness (accents, ghost notes, etc) and groove with brutality. John has said he would have been a jazz drummer but it wasn't athletic enough. Proof right here.

    Exactly, you can see how he just takes full advantage of the rebound and doesn't hit very hard, but very consistant, only making powerfull rimshots at the last stroke before a full stop. I think most drummers will understand how he's doing this (playing like this and this fast), just by looking at his playing, but actually doing it is so very difficult. This guy doesn't seize to amaze me.

    The first Origin line up with George Fluke, Clint Applehanz & Mark Manning are still the heaviest most raw live shows I've ever witnessed. They barely move around now. Back then the guys were all over the stage & moved & thrashed around with the music the entire show. It was fucking insane.

    He's not a machine! A human like the rest of us. A prime example of dedication and hard work, the culmination of years of practice, how to incorporate many advanced techniques (double strokes, Moeller, etc. etc.) into a whole drummer, with feel and creativity. No machine could do this.

    Way faster than Kollias, you gotta be kidding man. Kollias' footwork is still far superior to Jon's. The only thing Jon does in fact play faster is the Gravity Blast, which is actually never used by Kollias ;)

    Luke Cook Please. listen to that ride, johns a thick dude you don't think his hits have power? I know when I play that speed I use mainly finger strength and minimal hand movement, george throws the mueller technique into his blast which makes his hands and wrists move more and gives him an almost accented blast. Origins songs average faster speed than nile songs, john is a fuckin beast and his technique is much more fluent than Kollias. Kollias was my favorite drummer, I have his damn band tattoo'd on my body but john is just better lol much more of a broad musical background
