During his illustrious career spanning over almost six decades, as an excellent exponent of ghazal gayiki, the great Khan Saab had mastered almost 38+ ragas though deft handling and their appropriate application in his divine creations ! What's so special with the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was the fact that he had an uncanny ability to make even the most difficult of the ragas look pretty simple - for instance - Raag Darbari and Raag Sahera - to name a few ! Perhaps, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was the finest improvisation artist in the World of Ghazal Gayiki ! How right was Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saab in his assessment in saying - "No one can ever compete with Mehdi Hassan Saab in so far as his control over sur was concerned"! What an incredible singer the great Khan Saab was ! What a colossal loss it was to the World of Ghazal Gayiki ! The void, created by his sad demise, will ever be filled !
