I also really like how Roxanne is never really afraid of Megamind. When Megamind kidnaps her and tries to scare her, their exchange is playful, even flirty. But when Hal kidnaps her, she is genuinely terrified of him. It's because Roxanne knew that everything that Megamind did was nothing but performative. She knew that he would never hurt her- She was never in any real danger, it was understood that all he really wanted to do was lure Metroman out and fight him. Hal's behaviour showed little regard for her safety or her desires- stalking her to her home, spying on her through the window, clumsily throwing her around and then claiming to have "saved" her.

Funny how the guy considered an evil villain to the public that caused the city terror doesn't scare her at all when she's kidnapped by him. But the guy claiming to 'save' her that looks like a hero, terrifies her. It reflects real life in some ways, that the public's and individual's initial reactions to certain appearances of people can be very wrong. Its why information can be scary, simply because people can be told someone is evil over a misunderstanding, it'll be believed by the masses. And Easily.

  • @WolforNuva

No she didn't know it was all a performance, the only two that treated it as one were Megamind and Metroman. She genuinely believed Megamind was evil, you can tell by the way she talks about and reacts to Megamind during his reign of terror; when she dumps him and asks "why are you so evil?" the question is not given with any joke or sarcasm, nor any surprise that he's actually cruel or evil after all. The difference is When she was kidnapped she had played this song and dance many times before; she knows Megamind isn't trying to hurt her and that's she's just bait for his real target, and since Metroman always saves the day she didn't have anything to worry about.

Technically correct, as there hasn't been a Queen (or King) of England since 1707, when the Kingdom of England ceased to exist. The monarch at the time this movie was released was Elizabeth II as the Queen of the United Kingdom, but that isn't the same as the Queen of England as that title doesn't exist. So it was technically correct, the best kind of correct.

A neat detail no one mentions is how Metroman's upbringing seems to imply that while his mother was there for him, his dad was distant, which you can see by him being unfazed at his adopted son flew around their living room. Megamind, however, had a surrogate family inside the prison that while they distorted his morality and taught him to be bad, they all seemed to genuinely care about him and were raising him as their own.

Also, it seems that he was also thrust into the Superhero role as a kid by everybody and never actually got to choose who he wanted to be either like Megamind which ultimately leads to Musicman even though he isn't talented in music. Then you have Hal who chooses to continue to make creepy advances on Roxanne and then chooses to do bad things when he gets powers. It's a really good story about choosing what kind of person you want to be instead of what other people want you to be.

Homelander is very well acted, and their take on the public's perspective is always true and funny. Corporation greed and the corruption among people is show-cased well. Something I noticed when watched this reaction (and I've watched several others and I've seen the movie in full too) that I never noticed before was that the illusion watch has both a record and scan feature. When used on the warden, it records his voice them scans him, which is why Megamind sounds like him when using the watch to escape. I also assume that he preprogrammed it with himself and had Metro Man help him record his voice and appearance for the fight. Why do I bring all of this up? Because the writers are genius and made it so Ferrell could voice Megamind as Bernard, despite Bernard having a different voice actor. When Megamind runs into Bernard, he hurriedly scans him but doesn't record his voice (he has no time). Therefore, he keeps his voice and relies on the altered appearance to keep the secret. It's low key brilliant, and prevents a plot hole so small that they could've done nothing, but chose instead to use this detail. 👏👏👏

This movie was one of my favorites as a kid, and one I still love today. The message that it has about appearance doesn't matter, just your actions and intentions determine who you are. No one is born with anger or hate, that comes with how you were raised or who taught you what was right or wrong. Also that there's a difference between being a nice guy and a good one; Something that defiantly has become more prevalent now more than ever. Forever I'm disappointed that this film was seen as a knockoff of Despicable Me and that it was ignored. Thankfully nowadays people recognise it for the masterpiece it really is. Wish I lived in the timeline where this film was a successful franchise instead of unfunny Minions bullshit.

So Megamind was originally written with Ben Stiller in mind. He couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts, so he was given the role of Bernard. As for Tighten's name change, it was a low key way for the writers to show the corruption of Hal. When originally donned a super "hero", he was Titan, however, as he becomes evil, he transforms into "Tighten." The Guns N Roses confrontation is made even better when you realize Minion went all out for the "presentation," essentially that's what Minion thinks a supervillain *should* be. This movie is so dense full of fun things that it's a real shame Minions overshadowed this movie with only a few months separation. A Megamind 2 would have been awesome, but less is more, I suppose.

It's a great visual example of her switching sides from Metro to Mega's. Don't know if it was on purpose by the filmmakers, but it's pretty clever.

I think it did a lot of good to show young children that just because you're nerdy and awkward, doesn't make you immune from being a bad person, which was a revolutionary idea considering that most movies and shows of the previous few decades showed nerdy socially awkward heroes get the girl from their (usually evil) muscular chad boyfriends.

Yes I do have random analysis for this movie for no reason I’m copying. (Just roll with it.) Here’s the best way to look at Megamind, Metro Man and their effect on the world around them. They aren’t heroes OR villains. They are taking part in a school play and were assigned their roles. And they took both roles into being professional actors. It’s ALWAYS about the show, the presentation. Megamind’s methods never hurt anyone. It’s clear from how Roxanne treats his early threats. He wanted her to play her part, but like a show, it just LOOKS like she’s in danger. It’s all property damage, trolling…terrorism. But no one dies in this method. (You can’t possibly tell me he pronounces all those words wrong genuinely, and he just enjoys ticking people off by trolling them) He realizes he wants the other role, but he’s ASSIGNED his role, he can’t be another role unless he’s someone else. So he plays the director. And he made the WRONG cast choice but was too proud to choose someone else. He wants to escape not the show, but the tropes. He acts slightly entitled for Roxanne, but he is more saying I’m not ALLOWED to have these things because I’m the bad guy. You won’t LET me change. Metro Man straight up didn’t want this show anymore. He wanted another show. And one HE has to earn. Hence why he chose music. No physical training he always has done, no super power helping him do it, he has to actively learn how to play. And currently he’s awful and has to learn. Which is what he wants. Minion is more the backstage manager handling the costumes and helping the theatrics hit the perfect adrenaline. (Intentionally making those RIDICULOUS warm up times.) And when Megamind says he doesn’t want the role, Minion basically is saying the show may as well be canceled. Which it more or less was since all the cracks of the show WITHOUT Minion fell apart. Hal, was never in the show. He’s the camera guy. He WATCHES the show. He never played the role. He could only take what he assumed happened from watching. Metro Man got Roxanne because he saved her. Metro Man would never have died if he just put down Megamind. (There are MILLIONS of viewers that say that the hero should just kill the villain.) Not only was that untrue, but Hal never even fit in the roles in the first place. And showed exactly why someone LIKE Hal can’t have those powers. Because it’s not the power, it’s their control. And he has NONE. Because he never caught on this was a performance. He could act as he pleased because he wasn’t a character in the show. Roxanne realized as time went on how these guys saw their role and she decided to snap these people out with REALITY and not playing into their show. And it just kept getting her stuck in various versions until Hal was powerless, and she understood Megamind really was just as human as the rest of them.
