Megalopolis is an upcoming American epic science fiction drama film written, directed, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola. Set in an imagined modern America following a devastating disaster, the film features an ensemble cast, including Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter, and Dustin Hoffman.
A longtime passion project for Coppola, who first conceived the idea for the film in 1977 and actively started developing it in 1983, Megalopolis underwent significant delays and numerous cancellations over the years. Coppola revived the project in 2019 by spending $120 million of his own money on the film. Filming took place from November 2022 to March 2023. The film is Coppola's first directorial effort since Twixt (2011), marking his longest gap between films.
The film was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it is set to premiere on May 16, 2024.

Movie of a lifetime incoming
I am also VERY intrigued and so much rooting for Mr. Coppola. The man just had two tough losses in his life. His wife Eleanor and his mentor, the legendary B-filmmaker, Roger Corman
Looks incredible, in today's film industry where there are no new ideas, infiltrated, infected, this is something the film industry needs during these dystopian times
I think its a much needed movie. We need more fables in our lives, new ones! We need more movies that make you think, are abstract yet relatable.

Looks beautiful. Civil War looks very B Grade vs this. Not sure they should be in the same conversation

They’re both essentially about the end of civilisations - I hope this one gives us more thematic grist to grapple with. - Civil War failed in that department

It does what a trailer should do, gets you interested, but doesn't give away the plot or the story! So you will go down to the theater and buy a ticket to find out!

Couldn't disagree more re Adam Driver. I think his range is enormous, and as Scorsese said, is "one of if not the greatest actors of his generation".

I love him
The trailer wasnt giving much away. Just enough to tweek our interest. By the way, I miss Philip Seymour Hoffman. Such a great actor. What a shame.

I’ve heard that it’s been called ‘a passion project’……..and that’s where I worry because that’s usually it’s death knell, much like a bands ‘concept album’

Oh dear i just read about allegations towards FFC behaviour on set , he was kissing extras on the set and pulling women to sit on his lap ...i think its in The Guardian today .
