The original 'Youthanasia' version was a lot darker, practically in Emo territory. The more upbeat 'United Abominations' version featuring Cristina Scabbia and the post-apocalyptic imagery of the video is my favorite recording of this. It reminds me of my late wife, Jan (1961-2003), and it's great for channeling my grief and anger over the circumstances (Vioxx) of her passing. If not for this version, I probably would have sought out and beaten the crap out of multiple Big pHARMa executives a long f•••ing time ago. Karma will get them eventually, God is not mocked!

Christina scabbia makes an amazing addition to this song by Megadeath. She's lovely and has amazing vocals. Even today she still looks ravishing. Saw her in lacuna coil first and was besotted with her vocals. True what someone said, you could listen to this song over n over

*Standing ovation*👏This song is truly moving and inspiring on so many levels. I had to not listen to it for years. It was too painful. My mom and I used to love singing this. Now when I play this song it's like we're together again singing through the realms of eternity🙏❤️

You can hide your emotions from the world but never from songs like this!!

Listening to this song takes me back and fills me with tears & love. My best friend loved this band. It was over Megadeth that we sparked the friendship of a lifetime. We were in the Navy back in 2001. He was amazing & larger than life. We were in New Orleans on break and he saw this street called Elysian Fields Drive. He had to stop to take a picture. We were partying hard later and he got serious, which was rare for him. He told me not to cry for him when he dies. To play this song and remember him. I was a kid struggling to survive, like I’d been tossed in an ocean full of sharks. He was the only human who reached out and pulled my head out of the water. The last thing I wanted was to contemplate his leaving. I told him “Dude quit that! You aren’t gonna die YET!” Anyways we stayed the best of friends through highs and lows but maybe he knew something. Maybe he had a clock he didn’t like to face often that told him time was short. It kills me inside that he did end up passing exactly 5 years ago. He was 43 and had retired from the Navy some years before and was one credit shy of his BS. I regret I never got to say goodbye.

I don’t care how many times I watch this or listen to it. An amazing song! It was when Megadeth first recorded it n even better with the gorgeous Cristina n her even more beautiful voice!

There is not a single fucking sense in which Dave could've picked a better frontwoman for this remake. Cristina's performance sense, melodic sense and overall aesthetic are unmatched.

This song HAS IT ALL....literally. Great meaning, catchy melody, great music, and playing....can listen to it over and over...till I say goodbye.

@rumblefish14 The song is DEFINITELY about saying goodbye to your loved ones when you die. Dave has stated this many times this is what he would say, if he had 3 seconds to say goodbye.

1st. seen Megadeth in my home city opening up for Alice Cooper 2-19-97...Peace Sells was a game changer for my musical tastes for seeking out riffs that stuck out....Kind of like another fav band of mine Voivod. Anyways... I have had a good musical journey in my life so far and it continues on in my 52nd yr. and this song has always hit hard for a "Ballard" which it is not to me. This version did not find me until recently just going down the youtube rabbit hole. I had no idea the Dave had Cristina aid in this redo back in 2007 and wow!!! She's is so amazing in this and Lacuna Coil of course. The 2 them together on this song crush! Beautifully done and this can be played at my funeral when the time comes right after Highway to Hell!

This is the song that originally got me into Megadeth. I was a Lacuna Coil fan before that and still am today (Still have my 1st edition vinyl of 'Comalies'). Through a fan page I found that Chirstina has collaborated with Megadeth, who I'm not sure If even heard of back then. Gave it a listen and I was instantly blown away by Dave's vocals and musical talent! Shortly thereafter I was forbidden from riding in the plane on my sister's 21st birthday skydive jump because I woke her up the morning of by kicking her bedroom door open while blasting 'High Speed Dirt's on my boombox. Hah! Good times

When I was young I had a big tape recorder and a tape with "Megadeth" on one side and "Metallica" on anoter. And this song had a glitch on 3:30 with 1 second of an old pop music record, kind of rickroll joke. This was always a pain for me an I was always waiting and dreading this moment, as it spoiled the impression. 😬 This is such a pleasure to hear an original, thank you, KZread!

Saw Megadeth at Sweden Rock Festival this summer. And they kicked ass. Dave Mustaine is just an amazing guitar player and performer. IMO 🤘🤘🤘

Just picked up United Abominations. Great addition to the collection and Cristina does a great job on this version of the song. Original version was slower, but this version is more metal. I do like this version better.
