Rust in Peace was very well received by both critics and fans and was responsible for bringing Megadeth to the attention of a mainstream metal audience, and it is considered one of the most influential heavy metal albums of all time. The album was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 33rd Grammy Awards, and "Hangar 18" was nominated for the same award at the 34th Grammy Awards. Allmusic described the record as "easily Megadeth's strongest musical effort", and it was noted as one of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

This is proof that tragedy can inspire amazing art. He found out Cliff died and basically wrote the entire song in a matter of hours if I recall correctly. As far as thrash metal ballads go, this is one of the best ever made.

Great live video of a great Megadeth song ! It's kept me going through the darkest hours of my life for over 30 years ! Dave Mustaine is the greatest and we all pray for a full and speedy recovery for him !

The dude seen evil firsthand, and the demons scared him to find God. (in an interview). Glad he is still with us. This song touched me, also fun to play.

@@dmitriblaskowitz2051 It was a celebration of Rust In Peace and these tracks were extras after the entire album was performed. So yes the main event was the celebration of Rust In Peace's 20th anniversary. I was at this show. :)

It has been redone in the studio. The vocals that is. That is why it sounds so good. Having said that, they now play in D standard and he sounds so much better as he no longer struggles.
