Absolute beast of a drummer. This song as heavy as it is really swings because of his playing.

Great thrash but I wouldn't call it their best.

His drumming style is similar to Gar but his body movement reminds me Menza. Now that just perfect combo, he got both elements of Megadeth two best drummers.

@@Lulustucru2393 eh, I couldn’t care less for Drover and Broderick. Those dudes were super boring. They did their jobs, sure, but man they are not very interesting to listen to (though I will give an extra point to Broderick cause his technical skill is absolutely bonkers. Dude is a wizard)

As a drummer who is a huge fan of the Gar period of the band, Dirk is the only drummer Dave has ever had that does Gars playing complete justice.

To be honest Chuck was pretty darn close, especially since he was Gars tech for a while so he learned a lot I’m sure. Nick was a fantastic drummer but he had a very different style. Dirk is pretty close to Gar so I’d say you’re mostly right

I liked chucks playing , I do think nick menza was the drummer they needed back in the late 80s ,he was experienced and had a groove that embellished the guitars and bass very well ,especially when it came down to them writing new material , rust in peace has some of the grooviest thrash metal drumming in the world .

As a non-drummer, this seems like it would be a fun song to play, especially building the atmosphere in the beginning.

its fun when youre good. ive been drumming for five years and playing this song for probably 1 or 2 and im still learning about it. gar is one of the best drummers of all time. dirk is the only drummer ive ever seen cover gar and play close to his playing.

🤣😂🤣 I never really liked Drover in the band. I never understood why Dave kept him so damn long. Dave kept him in and gave him his shot because before Megadeth he hadn't played anything of significance live and after all the money and fame Drover got from being Megadeths drummer he leaves Mustaine hanging, and just left the band with Dave going WTF. This guy Dirk is the best drummer I seen in the band since Menza. Holyshit he might be the best I've ever seen in the band. So glad Adler left the band because this guy is a bad man. Perfect for Megadeth and I hope he gets to open up the throttle on this new album.

its weird because yes, this is how gar played but its not how gar looked when he played it. ive seen videos of gar drumming it is very odd. gar is huge, approx. 6'2 with really long arms. hes super calm in his playing, his size makes the drums look like a toy and he plays them like theyre toys. he used to be called "praying mantis" because of his size and playing style

I think Dirk is very much the same body size and height as Gar and he towers above the kit when he stands. He has long legs and arms and is over 6' tall also.

This is my favorite song about the busiest shopping day of the year.

It's really refreshing to see Gars parts played the way he played them. Dirk is the only drummer that plays them as they were recorded by Gar. Great job.

R.I.P. Gar Samuelson.... you got a great cover here with Dirk the Dragon Slayer!

Maybe Yes but my favorite Megadeth drummers will always be Gar and Nick. Peace Sells and Rust in Peace are two of the greatest Thrash Metal albums ever released.

This may be a controversial opinion, but it seems to me that no matter who plays drums in Megadeth, they get throttled by Dave, almost as if he wants to keep it simple and not let anyone personality overtake his. Look at Shawn Drover, he legitimately sounded like a drum machine in Megadeth, but in Act of Defiance he actually sounds great. Same with Chris Adler, I was very underwhelmed at his playing knowing what he was capable with in Lamb of God. I hope I'm wrong

He fucking did it again. Dirk is just a monster! Megadeth have not had this perfection in a long time when it comes to the drums. Cant wait too hear Dirk crushing it on the new album

Chris and Gar were ludicrous. Gar seemed to keep a certain amount of air in his playing. Kept it from getting claustrophobic. His snare sound!

Dave wrote 5 songs and stitched them together and created this "song" It is just 8 minutes of jamming. Its amazing. I dont even know how this song sounds good. It shouldn't sound good but it does

This has to be one of the greatest thrash songs ever, 4:10 onwards has to be some of the best metal of all time. It's impossible not to headbang to it.
