    My dad would have been cool with it as he’s a rocker at heart. His childhood favorite bands were King Crimson and Pink Floyd. My mom was a hippie and actually went to an Alice Cooper concert when she was 16, but as a mom she was a super strict conservative Christian and I literally was unable to listen to “secular” music growing up (anything not labeled Christian) until I got my own job at 16 and could buy whatever cds I wanted. I had the worst music exposure a child could have with that awful radio friendly Christian gospel soft rock I was basically forced to listen to for 16 years lol Edit: i need to find out if my mom knows Alive Cooper is actually a Christian but I do know she had to lie to her mom in order to go see him lol

    Lex is beginning to intuitively comprehend music theory by ear. Guitar solos are played to a musical scale. Long story short, each scale has seven notes, and can be repeated in rising and falling octaves. So the guitarist will play a bunch of sequential notes in a particular scale up and down over and over again for the solo. Sticking to the scale means that every note they strike will sound good played sequentially. I'm drastically oversimplifying here, but Lex is picking this up simply by ear. You rock!!

    The song is about the story of the guy that blamed the devil for his killings it happened in 1984 I think. Basically when Dave sings the part of what the fuck is this, and screamed is the moment that happened and the devil took over and started hammering 😆. Really dark lyrics.

    I've watched so many reactions to this song and I've never seen anyone try to explain guitar scales like this. Hell, I don't think many people even comment on the guitars themselves and mostly just talk about the song in general amd the lyrics. This was a great video and yes, guitar (and music) is based on "repeats" of note groupings. Essentially if you're in a certain key and you play on a certain scale, every note you play will sound good. Sometimes people play "wrong" notes to achieve dissonance to create certain moods too

    You cannot teach ears and taste. There are players that feel the music, and players that know the music. Feeling is more Universal, as it comes out as genuine and original.

    The lead guitarist on this, accompanying Dave Mustaine, is Chris Poland. He is a jazz fusion player with a finger injury that allows him to do wide stretches on the fretboard. A few years after this, he released his first solo album, which unfortunately for Brad is instrumental. I'd strongly suggest doing some instrumental tracks though, even if Lex just does them by herself. Best tracks by Chris Poland: Alexandria Row Of Crows Club Ded

    *Lex* It’s seriously a shame that you’re not a musician, because you definitely have the instinct. Playing a solo is exactly like playing a piano. In Rock, it’s pretty typical to play three notes at a time... especially the faster you play. Great ear. I’ve been playing since I was 11, & am now 48, btw... Major props for your ear, & instinct.

    Lex asked about the guitarist being cyclical when playing and she is absolutely right. It is a scale that the notes come from and the scale is played in a certain key and the scale can be repositioned up and down the neck as long as it is in the same key. ANNNNDDD that is how solos are created….. for the most part!!!

    If you wanna' see Megadeth's current lead guitarist actually practicing a blistering solo, there is a video on KZread where Kiko Laureiro plays his guitar parts from, "Tornado Of Souls", which includes the solo. It was written by Megadeth's former lead guitarist, Marty Friedman and it is widely considered one of the finest solos of the genre. You'll get an idea just how talented these players actually are.

    Damn Lex you really know how to pick a song to ask about riffs lol. Megadeth are known for their intricate riffing, what you were describing in the end seems to me to be basically what’s called triplets (dividing a beat into 3 equal parts) typically played in a sequence, and in this case played over in same and different positions related to the key of the song. Hope that makes sense

  • @tommy5675
    @tommy5675 Жыл бұрын

    The Guitar sound you are hearing is called "Triplets"......Basically, 3 notes in the space of 1 note (this can go WAY higher than 3 notes) One way too make the "Triplet" sound is a technique called "Hammer on/Pull Offs", this is where the sound is made by the impact of the finger on the neck and not "picking" of the string. This can make for some very quick notes, as you heard :)

    Check out "My Last Words" from this album, it is one of my favorite Megadeth songs. Supposedly Lars from Metallica says the same thing. I can see Lex wants to shred some guitar, love it! :) I've been playing since the early 80s when I was kid, and I know a lot of Megadeth songs. I would say in general the songs are on the more difficult end of the spectrum in terms of heavy metal stuff. Most of the riffs aren't hard to play for a decent player per se, but they often contain lots of notes, nuance, and speed, so precision is required to get them to sound right. Guitar solos are often hard to learn because the original players usually put a lot of personality in them, even if not on purpose. Many people can technically learn to play the solos, but getting them to sound exactly right is often not that easy. That is one of the cool things about the guitar though! Anyway, I also really like "Mary Jane" off the "So Far So Good So What" Megadeth album. That is one of their most fun songs to play for me, it just has these kick-ass guitar hero style riffs. Great channel BTW!

    Lex, you’re 💯 percent correct about the guitar. Most folks play in triplets up down the neck. The lower down the neck, the higher the scale. You go low enough, and you’ll reach the next octave. Great observation.

    Yes, much lead playing is thought of in triplets, which are repetitive patterns from a fingering perspective but move the cycle through the notes within the scale to move up and down. Doesn't always have to be 3s, can be 4s, 5s, whatever, as long as you wrap up at funinsh on the root at the right time
