It's funny that I play Mega Man 1 more than 2 back in the Anniversary Collection on GameCube. Sure it's hard but I just find to be a bit fair to play, aside of that one moment in Wily Castle 1 if you don't have that one item in order to progress.

It’s honestly surprising that Capcom greenlit a sequel, not necessarily because it’s a bad game (which it isn’t), it just wasn’t that popular, at least not compared to how big the second game became. Going back to the first game, it feels rather humbling to see how simplistic things were, yet at the same time, how deceptively similar it is to the other NES Mega Man games. On a semi-related note, Elec Man’s stage is my favorite theme from this game.

I'm really excited to watch the entire journey. There are some fun games that weren't popular amongst the kids I went to school with, so it'll be cool to see them get a chance to shine here!

Looking forward to more of these off the cuff reviews! Yes, we have all played most of these games, but sometimes, nostalgia colors our memories and it is good to give them a second look and thought. For the first game of an entire franchise, Mega Man did a lot of things right. Things definitely improved with Mega Man 2 and beyond; it's nice to see the evolution for sure.

Derrick how about a video series with ash. Don’t do individual megaman games each but a round up like for example megaman 2-6 then 7-10 then the megaman man spin offs in one video

  • @pro-toman

I agree that individual videos may not be the play. I don’t think many people are gonna click on Wily and Light no Rockboard on its own…that and viewer saturation from all of the videos that would have to come from a big project like this. That said, I think a simple “I’m Playing (almost) EVERY Mega Man Game (Part 1)” and so on with a funny “Derrick looking appropriately at a relevant mega man game” thumbnail would suffice. That way, Wily and Light will get the attention they deserve. It’d feel more like an event when the videos drop too! Edit: Not to say that I won’t treat these Mega Man videos like an event already. Gotta make that one clear…

This bring back allot of memories. MM1 was one of the earliest NES games I played as a kid. Granted at the time I had a love hate relationship with it, since it was bloomin hard to get through the stages. Let alone beat any of the bosses. But with more practice and having played more of the later entries. I eventually was able to master MM1, and finally beat Wily in the end. Despite it being rough around the edges. It's still my favorite entry in the series, and always brings a ton of joy whenever I replay it. 😄

Looking forward to more Mega Man videos. Sorry if this was already said, but there's a very easy way to beat fire man with just the default weapon without taking any damage. Makes this end of this game so much easier! Stay in the same spot and jump and shoot at the same time when you jump over his fire and he gets locked in a pattern.

Mega Man really was one of those iconic game franchises from the 80's that's kind of fallen by the wayside in modern days. There hasn't been much Mega Man since Mega Man 11, I do hope there's some new Mega Man game on the horizon, since it's honestly rather frustrating to see Capcom milk nostalgia for Mega Man with merchandise and cameos in other games yet not bothering to actually make a new Mega Man (not unlike Rare/Microsoft and Banjo-Kazooie, actually).

People always say to start with Cut Man, since his stage and boss fight are easy, but I think Fire Man is the best starting place. He gives the best weapon (i don't wanna hear it, thunder beam fans), plus if you follow the weakness order from there, then you can get Magnet Beam without having to backtrack to any earlier stages.

Thank you! The original MM game or the series as a whole isn’t as impossible as some people make it out to be. They provide a good challenge and yes the earlier titles would’ve benefitted from some more rounding out some of the more rough edges. But they’re still fun to come back to and play every now and then. I’m very interested in seeing you tackling this list and live as I am currently working through the series in a very similar fashion and it’ll be interesting to be playing the same games around almost the same time. When do you stream Mega Man though? As I would like to drop by and watch one.

Even though I already know the mainline Mega Man series, having played them all, I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions of them, as well as your opinions of the ones I haven't gotten to yet, such as the latter half of the X series, the GB games, the BN series, and so on.

Re: 10:00 This is because, in the first game only, they decided to give Mega Man weaknesses and strengths just like the Robot Masters. He's weak against Elec Man and Ice Man specifically, which is why they kill you 3 hits - just like you can kill THEM in three hits with THEIR weakness. This idea was (obviously) dropped in all future titles, but there IS a method to the madness here that explains Ice Man and Elec Man's crazy damage.

I played through Mega Man 1 blind recently and that game is ROUGH around the edges. The only convenience I gave myself was save states before bosses and I still got pretty frustrated at places. Elec Man's stage is one of the absolute worst 😭 I don't know if I'd be down for a video for every individual Mega Man game but I think certain milestone games could serve as a means to update people. Like the classics being split into 1, 2 & 3, 4-6, 7 & 8, X1-3, X4-6, etc.

If you're gonna play all the Mega Man games, please don't be shy about using weapons in stages! Good weapons can make a Mega Man game way more fun, but a lot of people just don't use them at all outside of boss fights because they cost ammo.
