Meeting the Last Headhunters of Nagaland.
During my time in Northeast India travelled through the state of Nagaland. This mysterious, relatively unknown part of the country has always fascinated me.
In this video I sit down with a Headhunter from the Konyak Tribe in the Mon District. When the British introduced Christianity to this part of the world, the ritual of head hunting became no more, and now there are very few people left who once practiced this ritual.
I am very aware that this video is not perfect. It was difficult to edit as there was a lot of things I felt didn’t need to be included. The translations maybe a little off as they speak in a very very specific dialect.
Learn and enjoy

The older people who survived the headhunting era are somehow do not feel free to talk about the killings of the past. A complete new way of life of the Christian world and to talk about this is kind of personal sin and shame. Once i asked my grandpa who is no more- he only laughed and had never told me those stories.Because our grandpas wish of a peaceful new generation and want us to be good human being. Great Vid❤️

Well, I understand and sympathize on a personal level with someone who won't talk about it...but as a society, I feel, there is no sin or shame in accepting one's ancestral traditional way of life...humans by nature have violence in them...Nagas may have had a way of life where they would kill their "enemy"....that all was in the past...there is no shame in that.. which society in this world did not have violence...and even now are we non-violent? To quote a famous Indian filmmaker and author: we just do not have the courage to fight and kill a human with a sword...instead, now we use distant weapons where thousands of people can be killed by remotely operating a switch and dropping a bomb...how non-violent or civilized is that?

Thank you for visiting nagaland as part of your trip ..it's not every foreigners cup of tea to venture out into this part of the world 🌎 Hope you try to enjoy your travelling in northeast India ❤️
Wow. Just wow Mikey boy! That was epic 😎
You just learnt something very precious that will be in hearts of us forever
Christianity came to the eastern Nagaland late hence the head hunting is believed to be practiced beyond 1940's. My comment is just to authenticate our grandpa head hunting story because I believe in 1930's he'd still be a kid. My comment can be better complimented by any eastern brethren .

My grandpa says he is 90 but he has married 2 times and both his wife are death but than again he is still trying to re marry a new one. Now let me tell you this I asked my grandpa 100 times how old are you but than he still can’t remember how old he is since back than their were no date of birth. Now my mom is like 57 so just imagine….. also back than there was so salt 🧂 so you live long if you consume less salt… thanks for reading 😊

it's good of you having keen interests in our cultures👍👍great make more videos.
In most of the naga villages ( regardless of tribes) Morung was a very important institution. It was where children stayed and learnt the art of warfare and social and cultural way of life etc. The second common feature is the village tree. Almost every village had a village tree where they hang the heads of the enemy. The concept of head hunting in naga society is deeply rooted in religious , cultural ans social life. The social status of a man was determined by the number of heads he begged. Moreover it was believed that taking the head of a man gives supernatural power. The modern society is built on money and wealth. The early naga society was built on head hunting.

@@NampiRomeoHansongkuki Igorot of North Philippines are group of tribes commonly called "Catalans" With different languages like us. Their culture, traditions, dresses and their rice paddy field plus others are very similar to our North eastern India even local Taiwanese.. Some research are going on to find out any common ancestry.
@nusazotetseo473

The Igorot are believed to be migrated through ocean n river banks from the Amish/Atayal tribe of Taiwan. Spread to Malaysia, Indonesia, New Zealand n elsewhere. Headhunting, tattooing, pottery farming and many others are similar to us. The difference found is the language .... Igorot ( not Catalans- my bad) comprises of different tribes n sub-tribes that speaks different languages like us but Nagas n northeast Indian speak Sino-Tibetan language.
