    She kind of reminded me of some of the elders here in the UK years back. Harsh lives from industry/poverty, lack emotion, see emotion as weakness, very aware and not so amused. Personally I think it's good, you can easily have somebody put in their place with such attitude and have them be more honest and aware of themselves with such attitude.

    Guys please let's not be so quick to judge the mother harshly. She was raised in an orphanage herself. It's also possible that she's trying to restrain herself and holding back her happiness because she knew that goodbye is inevitable and she just don't wanna relive the pain of separation from her son all over again. Her circumstances are difficult (who would want to stay in a very very very cold place if you have options?) and it might be that she can't do anything regardless of what she feels. Plus there's the factor that she doesn't feel good about not being able to raise her own son. I did see her happiness that Alex visited her and he grew up to be okay and healthy.

    So touching when the son said he wanted to make his mother’s life better because she had a difficult life (growing up in orphanage). Love is such a beautiful thing when shared. In Victorian era pictures everyone looks so stern because that was their culture at the time. I have met lots of modern Russians who are like that, like they must have lived through hardships of Stalin or something. People forget that many much older Soviet people are the equivalent of Hiroshima survivors or Auschwitz survivors. Stalin's police would kill entire villages which would leave lots of orphans. When your neighbors suddenly disappeared no one in the neighborhood would ask where they went because if some narc would tell on you for showing concern for them, then your house might be the next vacant ghost house that no one would dare mention. I think that it takes many generations for that terror to dissipate.

  • @Nonpeasant

    @Nonpeasant

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@stugrant01 I wouldn't interpret it this way at all. Victorians look stern on pictures because it's an official affair and smiling for pictures was not the convention. Do you see people smiling on painted portraits from the period? In addition, in many European countries smiling is considered an expression of an unusually good mood rather than a neutral polite expression, more like laughter than like saying 'thank you'. As for Stalin, he died about 70 years ago, and the repressions were in the 1920s and 30s. Very few people are still alive who were not very young children at that time. Most people about that age were also much more traumatised by the German invasion, whereas their attitude to Stalin is mostly brainwashed positivity. He has quite a lot of support from the elderly who associate them with Russia's industrialisation, escape from post-Civil War poverty, and victory over the Germans.

    I don't think people make that decision for the kid though, it's usually for themselves, in any case i think it's always really sad when adopted kids go after their biological parents, i wouldn't even care about them the only ones that matter are the ones who love you and raised you regardless of biology. Actually got an adopted cousin who went crazy looking for her real parents when she found out and it broke my aunts heart, i can only imagine how it feels when the baby you raised from birth turns against you for strangers they've never met and who threw them away like they were trash i'd never be able to do that to parents who truly love me, even if i found out today that i'm adopted it wouldn't change anything and i wouldn't care to find those people, but yeah this is why i can never adopt a kid, they'll never truly be yours no matter how much you love them.

    As an Asian/Indonesian, I think the mom acted normal. Americans or Kiwis or Australians may be more expressive when they express their excitement and so from your point of view she is being cold. I agree she could show more excitement but I would put down her failure to do so to her lack of reference of how to do it properly. In my own experience I remember having to make a mental note of how to show "proper western style excitement" when I meet foreigners otherwise they will think I am being not interested. Judging from their physical homes, we can tell the dad is in a much better financial situation than the mom and this could account for his more relaxed, well informed manner when receiving his son.

    I 'm so impressed by Alex's maturity. It's obvious he is very confident in himself and holds no grudges. He has love and respect for his birth mum, knowing that the decision she made for him was the best one. My heart goes out to her. The way she reacted was quite understandable when you dig a little deeper into her story and understand what she has been through. I could see that pain in her eyes and it broke my heart. Of course, she loves her son but feels a sense of shame and embarrassment. She is closing off her emotions to protect herself because what she really feels is too painful. She should not feel shame because she made the right decision to give up Alex so he could have a better life. I wish her all the best. As for Alex's birth father. What a beautiful, warm, open man. His reaction was absolutely heartwarming. you could see the pride all over his face. It's obvious he has taken a very different path to Alex's mum and was proud to welcome Alex into his lovely home and show off his beautiful wife and daughter. Alex may look a little like his mum but his energy, charisma and smile is 100% from his dad. There is absolutely no escaping genetics!

I could feel your excitment; and it brought to mind, how my son might feel, when- or if, he ever chooses to find his birth parents. I'm excited, to know who his birth parents are. i took many photos, while i was there, 9 years ago, of his surroundings, and have all his paper worked boxed up for him. I liked hearing your story, and as your life unfolds, I hope your life story is filled with joy.

    I was crying by the end of the video. So moving. His mother did not show her emotions but that waving at the end said it all. She loves him deeply but has learned to be stoic in her harsh environment. The fact that his father did not know of the birth, means they were not married, so she had to give away the baby due to public shaming and impact on her survival in the 50-60s era in Russia. It was the same in the US or any other part of the world. Unmarried women with babies were pariahs in society. It would have been very hard to raise a child by yourself with limited opportunities. He was lucky to be adopted by an Australian couple and given more opportunities. I think he is deeply loved by both parents. His father was more demonstrative and so genuinely glad to see him. That was so lovely to watch! Well done, Alex! Takes guts to do this. But you now have a rich family heritage across the world.

    Alex: How good of you to upload this, your story ought to get some very important things in a certain perspective for a lot of people..... Life isn't always easy, and _nothing_ is a given for any of us. I'm happy for you that you all got to meet, life will get another dimension for all of you after this . . . . . [Btw: I've never met my biological parents, so I can relate....) I wish you all the best here from Norway! . . . . 😉🤟

    My relatives think it's rude to open a gift, when we bring them gifts they just say thanks once and put them away to open them later lol.

    This young man will be successful in life. He holds no grudges to his biological mom and dad. Alex only showed kindness, openness and love. His father looks like him and his half brother has strong resemblance to him.
