Meet The Steamer Who Plays Games With Her Mind

Ойындар

Over the last 12 months, UK content creator Perri Karyal has more than quadrupled her following on Twitch.
Why? Well it’s quite simple -- she plays video games with her mind.
So how did Perri get here? How exactly does she do this? And what does it mean for the future of gaming?

I am a neuroscientist and this is hard to believe. It takes a group of 20 highly trained researchers to train AI to reconstruct and identify an object visualized in minds. And this only in a very controlled setting with much more sensitive equipment. The biggest issue is that every single head and eye movement, speaking and even ones own heart beat causes major artifacts in the signal that would override the tiny signal changes recorded from brain activity. It is highly doubtable that a commercially available EEG and Software is able to distinguish these. And we still didnt consider the know-how that is needed to train such an algorithm for machine learning. I am sorry but gaming with our minds is still very far away in the future.

If this were real, the implications for rhe science community and patients would be immense, and she would be invited to any conferences and talks to present her findings. This would be all over the scientific news outlets, yet, nothing. Unfortunately seems like a fraud to me.

What is the most aggrviating that the score esports, a channel that I usually enjoy for the gaming journalism, completly dropped the ball here. Proper journalists would have invited other experts (neurocientists!) to comment on this matter, especially after reviewing scientific news outlets and not seeing a single mention of her work. Really sad to see hard work of colleagues diminished and not represented when discussing such a groundbreaking and exciting idea.

thats where machine learning comes in, it doesn't just pick up a specific brain pattern, I'm not educated in neurology but i am machine learning. Its not looking for 1 specfic brain image but a series of them, accounting for external factors like hearbeat etc, if you watch her streams its far from polished its very much like you said inconsistent.

  • @GuyWithAnAmazingHat

You don't understand how the tech works as well as what "skill" is. The EEG converts your brainwaves of certain intentions into inputs, the outcome is exactly the same as thinking about pressing a button but with your brain instead of hands. You need to think of every single input needed just like you need to think of every single input for controlling. Skill is the ability to come up with game plans, react to things and make the right decisions, you still need to do all this with your brain for the EEG. In fact it is harder to do this than traditional inputs because all of your workload is in your brain, you're not relying on your motor neurons to transmit and delegate actions to your hands, it is far more focus intensive.
