Meet the composer: Gabriel Yared on scoring The English Patient

Музыка

🎬Tonight we had planned to be sat beneath the big screen at the Royal Festival Hall, performing the score to Anthony Minghella’s multi-award winning romantic blockbuster, The English Patient. Music is at the centre of this passionate story, and the evocative score earned composer Gabriel Yared an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Grammy Award.
While we can't perform for you right now, in this film Yared relays to us his remarkable journey into composition, orchestration and the world of scoring for cinema.

The English Patient is the most beautiful film I've ever seen in my life, and I'm sure it is in big part due to the music too. It was a very talented job. A great Thank You Gabriel.

He needs to do more films, the fact that he hasn't done more ever since being kicked out of Troy is disgraceful to hollywood.

I can relate! The happiness I felt some time ago, tears included, when I succeeded in playing a small part of “Convento di Sant’Anna”, by myself, by ear, not knowing anything about pianos and all, even if it was not perfect at all... well, that joy... I won’t stop until I’m able to play it

Wow, what a riveting video. Brilliantly edited and featuring such an abundance of tantalising information on an important composer in a relatively short space of time. I've been a great fan of Yared's music for many years now and this is a real treat. Thank you!

I absolutely loved the very Bach-ian theme from the moment I heard it in the cathedral scene. This video closes the loop on that in a sense, and it's been so fulfilling to hear the story behind that. Thanks for uploading this!

what's that shift in chords or something that happens at 22:36 that sounds so intriguing? Reminds me of a part from Wagners Tristan and isolde prelude they used in Melancholia
