Person: how long did it take to setup the laser PB: 6 hours Person: 6 hours??? PB: 20 minutes to setup the machine and the rest of the time playing with the exhaust hose. That was my favorite part!
Imagine going back in time and describing the present to someone from the 60's - they'd think we were describing the Jetsons. Need your eyes fixed? Lasers. Teeth whitened? Lasers. Measure big distances? Lasers. Tattoo removed? Lasers. Warfare? Lasers. Fusion power? Lasers. Fabrication? Of wood? Metals? Plastics? Lasers. Lasers. Lasers. This is the future. It's lasers all the way down.

I can not tell you how much I appreciate the flashing light warning :) I'm an epileptic, and even though I'm not triggered by flashing lights, they still give me a headache. I don't think I've ever seen a warning like that on a regular youtube video. Again, thank you Peter :)

I to am an epileptic and while I’m am not triggered by flashing lights either I find that it gives me bad headaches and really bothers my eyes. I generally try to look away or close my eyes when I see flashing lights. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a warning like that in a KZread video before especially not one that was related to laser work were there should be one. That was very thoughtful of you Peter and I greatly appreciate it. Cool video, I would love to incorporate laser work into my woodworking but haven’t been able to afford a laser machine yet.

I love the dynamic between Peter and Joel. Can we get more product reviews with the two of you?
I'm so happy for you. I'm not saying I'd cross the road if I saw my boss walking towards me, but I'd consider it. Not a bad laser either. Although hotdog branding wouldn't be high on my list of priorities 😅

I've had a few like that too. A good or bad boss can totally change a job you like.
Was the hot dog allowed to dry at all before the second attempt? I could see the juices either collecting on the surface and causing issues with refracting the light from the laser or conducting the heat away and preventing it from branding.

When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be Mrs. Brown. Been a while since we've seen her burn stuff.
This is awesome, you should totally try to make one of those artsy 3D drawings that turn into something when you look at them from a specific angle by pouring layers and etching them as you go. It’d probably be crazy hard but it could be something to try.
Now I'm so curious what you do for work since your boss seems like a wonderful and chill guy. I wish my boss was into lasers!

Micro fiber towels and epoxy resin for knife handle?!? How awesome is that!? Absolutely brilliant. Just purchased one of these F1 and a P2. Very impressed with Xtool
The F1 is a great laser, I've had one for a while now. I paused video after first engrave and haven't read all the comments so someone else might have told you this. When doing an image like the first one on dark material, convert to B&W, and invert the image. And possibly use the IR beam. It will turn out much better.
Styropyro on YT does absolutely crazy stuff with lasers and he explains why a laser can blow holes in steel but not skin. I think it's in a video about an ebay laser. Btw the hotdog the second time is not as moist as the first time and probably closer to the room temperature and I cringed when the hotdog juice seeped into the mounting holes. Also a cool tool but I won't ever be able to justify spending this much money.
With the hot dog, could the level of surface moisture have been the issue? When you first pulled it out the pack, the laser would have to work harder evaporating the water first before actually affecting the meat. After it sat for awhile and had a chance to evaporate some of that moisture, maybe it worked better?
Really great demonstration. Thank you for sharing!
Seeing the hot dog test made me think back to Starship Troopers when they got their tattoos, and now I'm wondering how long until this tech is adapted for that. Yes it'd hurt like a brand, but it'd be quick as hell and more accurate/intricate than a person by hand. It also wouldn't be color like in the movie and more likely scar discoloration which still works.
I've been contemplating getting the F1, your video helped me make my decision. Thanks for a fun and informative video!!
I love how giddy you both were!
I'm impressed! My 70 watt co2 laser can cut the hotdog in half but can't mark metal without using Cermark.
Thanks for doing other materials I just keep seeing videos for unboxing and using the samples that come with it. It’s an amazing tool but wish I could find more settings for other materials. ❤
It was good to see you two have a good time playing with the new toy.
Super cool. This could totally be at a fair for custom projects
When I worked at a print shop I did all the projects on the laser engraver. It was a lot of fun. If you get the settings right you can also cut vinyl, kind of like plotter, but obviously cooler because it's a laser.
@Azarathification
18 күн бұрын
Just a note, careful what vinyl you cut. Some are safe, PVC vinyl is absolutely not, for you or the machine, as it releases hydrogen chloride, which creates hydrochloric acid, corroding the machine.
love the videos Peter i never miss em. keep doin ur thang man!
I love the giddyness of your boss.
The F1 is a nifty machine lol. I hope you and your family have a very happy Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
Just two dudes, geeking out over tools. LOVE IT! Totally had no idea you had a job outside of youtube, but it totally makes sense! I'd love to know what type of work you do hahaha
Merry Christmas!!
My only guess for the hot dog not working in the thin layer of water. It's probably scattering the light and reducing the laser power
Ive been eyeing these for a bit, but finally got myself a lathe so no more toys for dad for a while😂 I cant wait until it gets here and i get it set up, ill be turning 24/7
Lazer can add lots of fun in the shop it looks like

@@peterbrownwastaken it was just a tiny clip from one of your videos about one of their tools, there were a bunch of KZreadrs
Dude your boss seems like such a nice guy, I'd love to have him for a boss
from my experience watching styropyro, i might have a skewed view of lasers as retina death machines, but with powerful enough lasers even the reflection of it bouncing around can damage your eye, so youve got me worried taking the goggles off!
Peak boys will be boys content and I love it
When your doing wood. I don't know if you know this yet but if you mist the wood with a water/borax mix then it will do a better burn on the wood for portrait engraving. Also for Shiney material I hear a sharpie first helps get the etch started.
A cool boss is the best, the lasers are also cool!
It's a wicked tool but omg it's expensive 😅 Really nice to have a Boss that is so interested in fun gadget's 😊
This is such a weird thing to say but I would actually love to see your boss return for some more goofing off with you in your shop some time lol
You and your boss goofing off is the best 😂
1:17 mmm I might buy an amazing acoustic hose that happens to come with a fiber laser engraver :D
Thank you.
Since you're so giddy over what you showed here, try out some material test grids using both blue light and IR lasers on stainless steel, there's a whole range of colours you can produce!
But how well does it etch resin?
That's awesome. I wish I could afford to get one.
Hi Peter, I know its not related to the video but I recently watched the eggshell videos (awesome by the way) and maybe pistachio shells could have a cool effect in resin as well :) Keep doing what you do!
Oh huh, I figured this was gonna be a pun on the whole, boss/emboss thing. Didn't expect ya to actually show yur irl boss lmao
Not an insult y'all so cute geeking out 😂
I always thought you were self-employed. When I saw the title, I was thinking wait a minute we've already met Mrs. Brown.
Wondering if you were to dye stabilizing resin if it would embed color into the wood
Don't you just hate it when your boss gets you excited about an awesome new tool and WHOOPS you spent money!? Lmao
I worked with my dad in his dental office the 1980s. We tested 1 of the first dental lasers for thr FDA. The laser would work on decay, but not bother healthy tissue. The 1 thing the laser would always respond to was the color black. At 1st my dad tried painting an area with black ink. If you truly wanted to tatoo a hot dog, I'd try painting it black, running water over it the entire time to keep it cool & keep the smell down. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but you'd probably have better results.
@peterbrownwastaken
5 ай бұрын
that's pretty interesting! black paint is how you do glass and acrylic engraving on the diode laser, so that make sense!
Any chance you could try the IR laser on different colors of resin?? Would love to see if the dyes/micas have any influence on its ability to engrave (blue diode cant do blue colors for example, since they don't absorb blue light)
@Azarathification
18 күн бұрын
Yep, they absolutely do have an influence. Blue diode lasers also have very bad results, using the IR setting with the F1 produced much better quality.
Water heavily absorbs IR; especially longer wavelengths of IR. The more heat being absorbed by the water in the hotdog- of which there is a high water content, the less is being absorbed by the meat.
The hotdog was probably too wet the first time. Since the laser works by burning, it was probably trying to "boil" the liquid on the hotdog the first time around
I was expecting your boss to be your wife. He was like a kid in a candy store.
Who let the intrusive thoughts win and decides to tattoo a hot dog 😂
Are these lasers (any model you have) accurate enough to etch a metric or imperial ruler onto metal? I would love to have a ruler on a handsaw, mortice chisel or the fence of my DeWalt table saw for setting blade depth.
White guy tattoo made me think of the tattoo scene in the original Starship Troopers
If you use the Lazer at a craft fair make sure you shield it so no one bumps into it
About the hotdog . 1) it could have been the focal length or 2) It was wet and vaporizing the water not allowing the engraving. Just a though.
Hotdog won't laser due to the moisture content. Imagine all the laser energy is going into heating the water in it. Effectively it's a water cooled hotdog.
Metal business cards would be awesome. I don't keep any business cards people give me lol, I just put their info in my contacts, maybe take a picture of the card, but if I got a metal one I might keep it because of the novelty.
I wonder if the juices of the hotdog prevented it working the first time? Maybe it was dry the second time? I have no idea just a thought.
If I send you a bar of cold process soap, will you try the laser on it?
Tramp stamped a hotdog... lol
Joel is immediately a cool guy
Dang it, now I want an F1!
I don't want another laser, I don't want another laser, I don't ... hang on, Peter Brown posted a video. 🤪
ya I got the d20 pro then they announced the f1. I really wanted the f1 but ened up buying the IR head for my d machine which does not work well. Im guesing the IR works way better on the f1
@peterbrownwastaken
5 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that! I didn't know they had an IR attachment for the D1, but It does seem to work pretty well on the F1.
@DirtyApronBoy
5 ай бұрын
Its down to the focus. The IR beam only has about 1mm range. Theres too much slop on my d1 20w so it loses focus over a project. The f1 uses mirrors to focus and I think it does some of the focusing itself during the burn. they do sell a beefier gantry part for the 40w head that might support the IR head better, I'm just hesitant on investing more money on the d1 system. Still a fun toy. @@peterbrownwastaken
That's one way to cook a hot dog!! 🤣
This entire time, i thought you were self employed!
I got an ad for the XTool with a clip of Peter in it before this video 😂
was the big horizontal line in the first cartoon print a failure??
Cool
Does anyone know if this is something that can be used on glass?! I make stained glass items and this would be a neat route to take as opposed to cream etching.
@peterbrownwastaken
5 ай бұрын
Yes. With the proper prep, the laser can etch glass!
i got a xTool ad with Peter in it. almost thought it was part of the video
oh i guess i never thought about it but whats your "day job" haha
Joel has an awesome goatee
I wonder if the juice is why the hot dog didn't work? Maybe the moisture was affecting the laser's ability to burn the hot dog somehow?
The AI images are horrifying haha, but what a cool laser!
my guess is just that there's too much water in a hotdog and the laser is having trouble atomizing it? or maybe it just doesn't absorb those wavelengths of light. just speculation though
I got an ad for the X tool right before this video
You and your boss look like father and son lol 😆 😂
interesting 🤔 cool video
I do not need a 1500 dollar laser, I do not need a 1500 dollar laser, I do not need a 1500 dollar laser....
Could have been the moisture on the hot dog at the beginning that you were struggling with.
More Lasers = More Fun
Just a couple of kids with a new toy.. 😂😂
Well, you at least you got Nathan's hotdogs, those are the superior hotdogs.
Make a dehydrated and/or resin stabilized hot dog knife handle. I bet it will engrave a lot better 🌭🌭🌭
you were using the IR laser the 1st time vs the blue laser on the hotdog. IR laser wont do anything to most organic materials
Gotta paint the hot dog black in order to get it to work.
I would 100% work for that guy.
