CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Parrish (Anthony Hopkins) encourages his hesitant daughter Susan (Claire Forlani) to be open to finding real love.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The cycle of life on Earth hangs in the balance when Death becomes emotionally involved in this romantic fantasy. William Parrish (Anthony Hopkins) is a tremendously wealthy and powerful man who oversees a worldwide multi-media empire. Despite the loss of his wife, whom he dearly loved, William is content with his life, and he's very close to his two daughters, Allison (Marcia Gay Harden) and Susan (Claire Forlaini). One night, as William is fighting a hostile takeover of his company and Allison is planning an elaborate party to celebrate her dad's 65th birthday, William begins displaying the symptoms of a severe heart attack, and he is visited by a mysterious stranger, Joe Black (Brad Pitt). Joe is actually the angel of death, who has taken the form of a man who recently passed on to pay William a call. It seems that William is due to move on to the next world, but (no great surprise) he doesn't want to go. Joe, on the other hand, is curious to know what life is like for mere mortals, so the two men strike a deal -- William will have some time to get his affairs in order, and Joe will wait and see what it's like to be a human being. Joe decides that he likes it very much when he falls in love with Susan, but negotiating the slippery slopes of romance is no easier for Joe than for any ordinary man. Meet Joe Black is an updated version of Alberto Casella's play Death Takes a Holiday, which was adapted for the screen in 1934.

@@Bazuzeus I am very sorry for you. But you should know that if your happiness and joy depends on someone, you are gonna be very miserable when that person will be gone. Just try to fall in love with life, with the people around you that have cared about you long before she did. Fall in love with nature, why not? He is so right. My husband died of cancer last month and I am so lost. We had that passion and friendship that I will never have again. We loved each other thru our faults, our similarities and our history together. It hurts so much now that sometimes I don't think I can take another breath. I don't know how people get thru this...Please hug and kiss the person that loves you for the same reasons we loved each other because it does go by in a blink.

tays gram I feel for you so much. My husband was diagnosed and died within the year. I wish I could hold your hand and lead you through the coming time. It took me six years before I could start living again. I left my home in TN and moved to my home state, CA. It was a good thing- my family is here - but nothing will ever be the same. And don’t let anyone tell you there is a time table for grief. You’ll get through it at your own pace. Don’t worry, you won’t forget or “ get over it”. In my case the love wrapped and carried me through. I pray for you. All will eventually be better.

I'm a red blooded 47 year old American male and it brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. The pairing between Anthony and Brad is spot on and the movie has so many inspirational quotes you can imagine. My issue with the ending is when Claire tells Brad “I wish you could’ve met my father.” 🤔 I understand why Brad said “Me too” because it wasn’t the coffee shop version of the character throughout the movie, so that makes sense to me. Might be knit picking but still love the movie.

Love is passion, obsession, someone you can't live without. I say, fall head over heels. Find someone you can love like crazy and who will love you the same way back. How do you find him? Well, you forget your head, and you listen to your heart. And I'm not hearing any heart. Cause the truth is, honey, there's no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well, you haven't lived a life at all. But you have to try, cause if you haven't tried, you haven't lived.

My favourite actor of all time, Sir Anthony Hopkins. 20 years ago I started my first full time job and on my 1st day my boss told me her daughter (who was studying at drama school in London) had written to Anthony Hopkins asking him to be her mentor etc, he wrote back and agreed on the premise that she sent him all her written work/reports etc. He even turned up to one of her performances ! What a guy x

Anthony Hopkins, by his own words, was for the better part of his young adulthood a stark raving drunk who hadn't a clue where he was, what he was doing, where he was headed or which end was up. STILL, through all that chaos...all that destructive inertia of a wrecking ball in motion, by way his acting, he became a prism for the light of human nature...giving us discrete portrayals of various aspects of our nature, tiny glimpses of ourselves. From the Bounty to Remains of the Day, to Silence of the Lambs, to Howards End to Legends of the Fall to the Edge to Westworld. Hopkins somehow manages to display with vivid focus the nuances of human frailties better than almost anyone else I have seen. Or maybe it's just his British diction and accent and delivery.

Now I am in my 40's with a beautiful and amazing wife and we have two adorable children. My life is so rich and full of joy because I kept looking/waiting for that lightning strike and I'm fortunate to say that it happened to me.

This movie was not appreciated in its time. But looking back at it now as then, it gave me the ability to suspend disbelief. To actually see it happen. To look upon death as a person... in the guise of a baby face Brad Pitt. The interactions between the daughter, the father and death. Even the meeting she had with Pitt before he turned in to death... It was pulling at my mind to except that this could happen and that is what makes this such a good movie. The acting is just a wonderful cherry on top
