It's probably the best review for this combo ( Camera and Lens) on KZread. I've watched the other one (is only 2 on the all KZread about this combo) and this actually really helped me understand this lens a bit better. I will mention that ZEISS Otus was designed to block Ultra-violete as well. Thank you very much for your review

I wish success for your new channel, which I already subscribed to. Please continue with these tests between the GFX system and adapted lenses. I am especially interested in the Zeiss Classic, Milvus and Otus without forgetting the Voigtlander. But the 645 Zeiss/Hasselblad, Pentax or Mamiya are also very interesting. Cheers.

I have both, the 85mm and 55mm 1.4 since they launched on my 5dsr and i have to say, that im very happy with both lenses. They are optically spectacular, even wide open in the corners. The 85mm outperforms the 55mm a touch wide open (bit sharper, and less spherical aperrations) and they are the sharpest lenses i have ever saw. The out of camera files look amazing on both. They both easily outperform every topnotch lens i ever bought from canon, sigma, voigtlander etc😂 The 85 is from a practical standview a bit too heavy for my taste. Its not a lens for shooting all day long, and it is unfortunately not weather sealed. The 85mm is perfect for precise studio work. Outdoors, i often use the 85mm f1.2 from canon because with 800g it is 500g lighter than the otus (lol) and has AF (even if its slow). The Bokeh of the canon 1.2 is something else (a unicorn) even if its not as sharp as the zeiss lenses wide open i love this lens to death. Tons of character. The 85 otus also has a unique, strong look, because its razorsharp wide open (high contrast) and has not the creamiest bokeh. It has some tension to it. Focus transition is gorgeous. The otus lenses also shine in backlight situations and remain contrasty. I also love to work with the otuses, because they dont focus breathe and i can compose the shots without worrying. Also when editing the photos, they colormatch❤ I would't recommend the otus 85mm 1.4 because of his weight. The 55mm is perfectly balanced and not too heavy. The focus ring on both are buttery, creamy and a dream to work with. I love to work and focus on these lenses, because u feel how insanely good they are produced. (Made in japan, cosina😉) The 55mm is my workhorse lens since 2014 and i highly recommend it. worth every penny in my opinion. Such a beatiful and unique rendering!❤😍 i would never ever sell it. The otus 85mm is like a fat wife who should go to the gym and you cant get rid of her lol😂

Very interesting test, sir! As a Nikon Z System landscape, wildlife and small product photographer, I am currently evaluating MF systems such as the Fuji GFX 100 ll, and the Fujinon lenses. I would have liked to see a side-by-side image taken with both the Zeiss and the Fujinon GF equivalent lens, but how would you compare the central sharpness between them? Thank you!

This is truly a great lens. It will maintain its value and worth for probably decades ahead. Two suggestions: 1.) Shoot DCI video with this lens on the GFX using a variable ND filter and a Ninja V. Vignetting is a non-issue. The result will be as good as it gets for video. 2.) Adapt this lens to a Fuji X body like the X-T5 or X-H2 (or earlier). Again, vignetting is a non-issue. With that F1.4 aperture, you can get awesome results. The detail is spectacular.

Agreed, this is really flexible lens.. and at the prices as of late, surprising to say.. but it's actually a great value as well! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!! :)

Nice. Have you seen Nikon 85mm 1.4/G lens mod to GFX mount? It also supports AF and other electronic communications.

I use the Zeiss Otus 85mm and 55mm on my GFX50sii for my portrait work. I agree with some of your analysis, sharpness and colour are insanely good, and beat out basically anything else. Nothing comes close. However, I do think there is character in the lens - it's not wild, there isn't erratic bokeh or any swirls, but the rendering of the falloff and the softness in the bokeh gives what I consider to be a very unique and pleasing character. The difference between the incredibly sharp in focus parts and the buttery smooth out of focus areas is where this lens shines. I also think the price is actually good value - yes, you're paying almost the same used as the new GFX lenses. But the Otus manual focus only lens works so much better for my work than anything autofocus. At the end of the day, it all depends what you're using this for - its a terrible lens to take out of the studio (its heavy and not weather sealed), so it shouldn't be tested in a street photography environment. It's not made for landscape photographers either, unless they get airlifted to their destinations. It is a lens made for studio work - either portraiture as I use it or product/still life photography where sharpness is king. Oh, and the filter size is 86mm :)

@@tomtrevatt3286 Thanks for watching!! More coming. Contax 645. 80/2 is next! And I agree with you, it belongs in the studio. And yep.. 86mm, right there on the filter ring. Doh!!

I'm not a fan of having to wait 4:45 mins just to find out if and how much of the medium format sensor it covers, at what vignette and what resolution and contrast in the post-FF area borders of the sensor's frame.

Interesting but the native Fuji glass destroys the Zeiss - to be fair the Zeiss is much older ( due an update? ) and of course not designed for MF 😎
