Hearing the guitar making the snare wires vibrate while he's starting the song makes me smile. Sounds like an old friend.

On lead, he sounds exactly like you'd expect: You won't hear anything you haven't heard before and heard a lot, but you'll hear it played PERFECTLY. Perfect timing, perfect taste, perfect note choice, perfect space left with pauses and rests - he's a guy who could stand on a stage with any of the Motown Funk Bros., the LA Wrecking Crew, the Nashville A-Team, the Muscle Shoals Swampers, or Booker T. & Co., and absolutely belong there.

One of the only times in my life I have heard a song live for the first time before listening to a recording. I saw Cory Wong at Troxy in London on Friday night and was captivated by the soulful beauty of this tune. My twin brother and I were there together and got to share that moment. It was something very special that I'll always remember.

I heard this in manchester a few days before you heard it in london, absolutely transcendental despite the smaller arrangement. it my favourite track from cory before hearing it live, I think now it may very well be my favourite track overall from anyone. it's just absolute perfection.

How am I only seeing this comment now. I echo the sentiment completely. Love you bro
This is most ive ever heard you make your guitar “sing”. Which honestly is totally insane, because you are extremely melodic player in general, but I think everyone’s so impressed by your pocket and rhythm so much of the time, that when you play something like this it’s just like fuuuuck, he can really do it all. If you keep doing what you love, you will never stop inspiring us. Thanks for the music ❤️

An absolutely gorgeous cut. Cory's nailing it in every aspect, as a musician, leader, and entertainer.
For those wondering, this appears to be the Jubilee II out of Stillwater River Boats. That places this on Lake St Croix (which is really just a wide part of the St Croix river). I wish I had known this in advance of recording as it's like 15 minutes from my house :D

Cory Wong but what a note it was tho mate 😝😂😂 I gotta tell you bud my father is 77 years old and been a devoted Hank Marvin fan all his life no one else gets a look in until he heard you play. He watches every video and has been looking into getting a neural dsp now for that tone. You really cant beat the chime of a clean Strat. Eternal thanks for making my old man a very happy man indeed , he’s had this on loop for a week 🤣🤣😂😂🙌🙌🙌👋👋👋👋

Never heard Cory shred like that! Almost a bit Mayer-ish😯
@Ri-Ci
2 жыл бұрын
Cory’s always been a beast, the guy is a bassist! Of course he can shred! He has his own distinct sound when he’s playing slow, so different from Mayer’s (who sounds exactly like Eric Clapton, they’re in mids rolled back camp). Cory has some really interesting dynamics to his playing here, and it’s so subtle I had to rewatch a few times. Notice how he adjusts his tone and dials back his attack on some passages, the little lick at 1:56 sounds like a telecaster bridge, he can really dial in that bite! Also, he seems to play more open, highlighting his bass background where he’s comfortable jumping positions constantly all over the fretboard, most blues players like Mayer or Clapton play within the box and stay much longer in one position. I really like how he has just the right amount of volume and plays just enough notes to get the motif going. He’s definitely capable of faster face-melting speeds, but here he’s showing his finesse and control, which I think is much harder to pull of because he has to play clean and accurate, no dirt to hide behind with distortion or a heavy handed band. Really some amazing talent, that right hand of his is a never ending bag of tricks. I thought my fave is when he plays bass but I’m liking his style more here.
He closed the show last night in Portland Oregon with this number. Everyone was in the zone, CW delivered all night. Damn good show.
This is my favorite guitar track of the last decade, everything about it is perfect ❤️
This performance proves that an instrumental track can move you to tears...
welcome to my top 3 post 00's guitar players, Mr. Wong.
Keep coming back to this. Outstanding.
I have found the most difficult guitar playing is the very quietest notes/chords. Nearly anyone can tap a distortion or fuzz pedal, use the wah and crank up the volume and sound great, but it takes a certain expert, a certain professional to play quietly. Cory does just that. Amazing, wonderful, and a tone to bring a smile to Mother Nature.
I’m just happy Cory finally decided to use a Tube Screamer! Overdrive is bliss!
His tone is just perfect
Dont sleep on corry man can shred ❤
"What mode is this?", you ask...The Mixolicious Mode. 😂
This is one of the best songs Iv ever heard.
Heck, where have I been to not hear this?! Perfection. Inspo from the other side of the pearly gates … 👌🏽
The bass sounds so good.
There is officially now smoke on the water. And props to the ax for staying in tune after that solo!
Really need to release this version on a streaming service etc as an audio file!!!!!

Cory, can I be this happy and realize my dreams like this? I don't know whether to get inspired and try to replicate your hope and faith in yourself and those around you, or to just enjoy this beautiful journey of your growth vicariously. Either way, your victory over all things past makes a sweet sweet song for us all to hear!
