I hate to tell you this, but this will not help you at all. If you really want the great benefits of TM then learn from an accredited teacher, if you do not, then don't. Simple! You will gain nothing from people who are just looking for KZread views by 'teaching' it on the cheap.

@@be.perfect The information is not being restricted at all. Maharishi has made this knowledge available to the world. You have 2 choices. You can pay what they are asking (and I can tell you from meditating for the last 36 years it is worth far, FAR more than they are asking!) then you will get the huge benefits. If you are cynical and think that they are going to rip you off, then don't learn. It really is as simple as that. It is not possible to 'have your cake AND eat it as well'. If you try to learn by the back door then it is extremely likely that you will be disappointed and never know what it can do for you. It is like going into a jewellers, shop, seeing a diamond ring that you really want but are not prepared to pay the price. Forget about the ring! If you go looking for a cheaper alternative, you will not get anywhere near as good a product. Kings have given up their thrones for what Maharishi is offering, and you are worried about spending a few hundred Dollars????? Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorcese, Howard Stern, Jim Carrey, Hugh Jackman, Bill Hader, Bill Hicks, Andy Kaufman, Arnold Schwatrzenegger, Jane Fonda, Burt Reynolds, Goldie Hawn, Heather Locklear, David Lynch, Jennifer Aniston, can all of these celebrities be wrong? Because they all swear by T.M. One last thing. If you do learn from the official source, then you must also do EXACTLY what the instructor says. Don't try to be clever. If you do not follow the instructions to the letter then you will again be wasting your time. But if you do......I promise you, magic will happen. I wish you well. Take care. Stephen

Thank you for the refresher man! I took a class on TM at my community college 8 years ago but had forgotten some of the steps, they charged about $150 I think. The mantra I was given was "ienga" (aye-een-gah). I found that there is also mantra lists online that TM instructors use as a guideline to give students in case any one is interested in looking for one of their own. I remember as part of my class they wanted us to do it twice a day, 20 min each, and it lasted a month. I started really noticing some of the benefits after about a week. But I had some really wild results going into weeks 3 and 4. Focus throughout the day definitely improved. I had a stronger sense of direction as well, less second guessing myself, and a lot more confidence. I had less stress and a greater general sense of wellbeing. My sleep also improved and I was waking up feeling very refreshed. I also started to remember my dreams in incredible detail, I normally did not recall them very well, but upon waking up I was able to remember every event, where 1 dream ended and when a new one began. Lol it was really insane. I ultimately stopped the daily meditations because the effects were so strong I felt like I could stop doing them and still have all the benefits. The thing about the effects too is that they were really consistent everyday, it never felt like sometimes they were there and sometimes they weren't. It felt like an overall really big permanent improvement to my mindset and life. I would say for about another month or 2 the effects felt the same, but then I definitely noticed them start to weaken after that. Overall, since just that 1 month of being consistent, there has still been lasting positive effects that are with me today just not nearly as beneficial as I would say they were while actively practicing. I recently wanted to pick it up again and try to stick to a consistent routine to see if I am able to see the same kind of results as before. I have been using this meditation a lot to help me focus recently kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKST28OHdra_kdI.html but realized I want to have access again to this amazing technique which doesn't require anything to follow along to. It's still a good mediation though for anyone interested. Thanks again for posting this vid and just wanted to share my experience!

I get initiated this week. Super excited but also conflicted. I'm trying to think what I can do to ensure that I stick with it. I quit so many things in my life. Even though you had fantastic results, you stopped as well. Why do we do that? It seems that because the benefits faded gradually and never completely for you there was never a sense of urgency to restart regular meditation. I'm gonna have to think about this because nothing is really coming to mind on how to ensure I stick with it. Maybe I'll talk to my instructor about it.

I have practiced TM for 30 years. However, it is a very specific practice best learned from a trained TM teacher. This usually takes place over four days, with each session lasting between 60-90 minutes. Also, you need to revisit the training a month later and then you need to do "Check Ins" regularly to maintain the technique. I know it can be costly but it is for a reason. There is a great dealing of training and information given to the student. Also, once you have learned TM, you can go to any TM centre in the world for a free check in for life. You can also participate in group mediation sessions which elevate the mediation to a whole new level. For example, you mention a mantra, and suggest it is better not to be a word with meaning, which is correct. But it is imperative that it is a meaningless sound that is not verbalised, but thought. Second, it is practiced for 20 minutes, in the morning and in the evening, prior to eating. I could go on and on about the mechanics, such as the need to make an offering to Guru Dev (Swami Brahmananda Saraswati) in the first place. Why? This is because while TM is a process, it has spiritual roots, which should be respected. Also, TM means to transcend thought, to reach a state of nothingness while totally alert in a relaxed manner - this is a very specific state of being. Also, if you practice a specific meditation like TM and are not taught correctly, you can actually cause more harm than good in the long run. A mantra is determined based on a long and detailed questionnaire which you complete prior to the lessons. From this the TM teacher can determine your specific mantra which is best suited to your TM practice. Also, this should never be repeated to anyone else in case they try to use it and it is not best suited to them. Also, in terms of cost, TM centres are meant to evaluate your ability to pay and do make concessions on cost. But even then, when people can spend money on things which don't necessarily bring them wellness, isn't the investment worth it? I know some might think I have something to gain from commenting like this, but I do not. I am devotee and respect and cherish TM. I would love for everyone to learn it and learn it properly. It is a life changing process and is truly a gift. It should be honoured as such. If you can't or choose not to invest in such a practice that is all fine, but to think that learning in such an ad hoc fashion is the same thing, it is not and you may do more harm than good.

@@mikeymoo1291 It is not simple until you have experienced it and even then you and I feel the need to continue to read and watch videos just to make sure we are getting what others are getting out of it. How many here in the west would have even heard of it let alone considered TM or any kind of meditation if not for the program? People cry foul because there is money involved in a society where we pay for everything. I like to point out that the TM organization does teach TM for free to many who have no money or means.

They offer a one hour introduction for free and that one hour introduction is pretty much a sales pitch. That's how courses are sold these days. You're not necessarily aware it's a sales pitch but it leaves you with many unanswered questions (deliberately), hence you buy the program. TM is not complicated at all. It's as complicated as you choose to make it. It's becoming like 'The Secret'. Whatever happened to that? All the celebrities jumped on board, including Oprah funnily enough (that's who you go to if you want something endorsed). Giving it away to the poor....well they would wouldn't they? And how do they decide whether someone is poor or not? Are they asking for wage slips and utility bills? I'm not for one moment saying that TM is a bad thing however I do have a lot of experience of programs, courses and how to sell them going back many years.

He filled out and had me sign an application for a grant. We agreed on a price with in my means. Many things are "simple" once done but the mind as you say can make it seem impossible. Four days for an hour or so, one on one with another human being asking the right questions and understanding your response's reassuring you that what you are experiencing is common and beneficial to your practice is still the best way to learn. It can instantly free up your mind to enjoy the practice and effortlessly and naturally have one that is not a chore.

It's simple, easy and absolutely free online. (Folks can just Google Relaxation Response instructions and voila!) My experience was quite similar to what you posted... and I also think it's time for me to pick it up again. Fwiw, props for posting your mantra and pointing out that people can get those from online lists. When I finally started meditating, it was only after I realized that I had dozens of books about it and I'd never actually tried it. 😂 Here's to the Maharishi Effect beginning to work on Earth: our beautiful home needs triage. I do believe it could be taught adequately from a book or video. I do TM, paid for it in the 90s, $400 I think. Worth every cent.

Yes I would say so. I prefer it to mindfulness. I think where people get frustrated is that your mind wanders and sometimes you wonder what the point is. However messy it might be just repeat the mantra. When it’s good you will transcend. It’s a weird feeling, I often dream for a few seconds even though I’m awake but it’s such a blissful feeling. Now this won’t happen 100% of the time but I am firmly of the belief that keeping to the practice allows these good ones to happen. Rather than think, this is meditation time. I think, this is 20 minutes of relaxation and I’m just going to allow the mantra. This reframing helps me as I’ve come to realize, forcing it doesn’t help. The TM organization do good work but it’s got a bad rap because of the teaching costs. Look, TM don’t own mantras, they are available online. Pick one you like. Do the practice in a way that you don’t care if it works, no baggage, no force. At some point you will feel it. There is nothing else I can do to feel like it. I no longer drink or take anything else recreationally because I realize this is it for me. It’s a gift. Good luck

There is a reason that people don't share it. If you don't learn it properly it can actually do more harm than good.

In this context only there are 2 general categories of meditation - Object meditation and Mode meditation. In a wider sense there are many categories. "Object meditation" uses an object like an image, sound, sensation etc on which to focus ones attention. Mode meditation is more open and non specific and has to do with the condition or state of the mind itself... like being in a state of awareness without reference to any particular thing, or being completely relaxed or in a "flow state." TM is a form of object meditation because it uses an object (sound or "mantra") as an anchor or point on which to direct the attention. There are many many variations of "object meditation" and TM is just one of those, it's nothing really new or recent. Following your breath, counting breaths is another way of doing the same thing and results in the same positive effects.

Great job on this video and I love the App. As A TM Trained Meditator both have been a great refresher. For those of you who still would like one on one training I want to point out that the cost is not the same for everyone. Teachers of TM can adjust fee's and get grants to help pay cost. I won't speak for the overall TM organization but teachers have to eat and pay rent just like everyone. The cost to me for TM training was less than 300.00 US. Free is great I agree and this instruction was spot on but ask yourself if you learn this will you dedicate your time to teach others? For most of us that is an honest no. Maharishi knew this and understood that if TM or VM was to be brought to the masses, which was his goal, then it would have to have to structure itself to continue in our society.

I've been practising TM I learned from a certified TM teacher since 1978 and I can state that this presentation is not pure TM neither is the mantra. mantras are personal for your mind body type and more, and should not be shared. If you want pure TM go to a certified TM teacher and learn it properly ,there is more to know in addition to the TM technique that you are instructed on for the complete experience. TM teachers are skilled professionals and like any other professional even though the technique is quick to learn they spend a lot of time with the practitioner spread over days (but not all day) even for a lifetime for checks ,the mind can alter the technique just as is has done here ,and hes only done it for a few weeks which was already corrupted from an app. He appears to be using official TM charts in his presentation , part of his intro dialogue is word for word copied from Bob Roth from an official TM presentation too...... TM is very subtle and delicate just like the mind ,Maharishi understood it very well, the technique and mantras are very ancient , and must be kept as pure as possible by trained teachers or else it will get corrupted and gradually die out. Maharishi said it has suffered that fate before that's why he reintroduced it in a form suitable for householders, it is actually a very ancient Vedic meditation technique. TM is very easy to learn and practise but you must be shown how by a professional, its also so very easy to do wrong, they are there to guide you I did struggle with it at first as I have an strong analytical mind, I'm so glad the teacher was there to help. I have no connection and never have with the TM movement ,no axe to grind.

I understand that TM's hefty fee is in part because it grants you access to lots of professional consultation and to practitioner centers. However, I think they would do better to stop with all the secrecy and allow you to pay for professional service and education if you want it. Similar to how I could do taxes on my own, but if I have complicated questions, I can hire an accountant, or I can read an article about something but if I want a dialogue with someone who knows it in depth, I can take a class.

That's like comparing TM to getting your car serviced. This is about your body and mind and well-being. It is much more critical than you think. It's not about secrecy. It's because if you everyone rushed around showing people how to do it then a lot of harm could be done. It's about keeping the process true and pure. Think of like Chinese whispers. The more people teaching in casually, the more diluted it becomes and further from its true origins. I have practiced TM for 30 years. I do not agree with anyone other than a TM registered teacher imparting this delicate TM technique ..and that includes Jonno Gilbert., there are too many so called teachers jumping on the band wagon misleading people ,often the main reason is to save money paying for the official teaching.! What price for the greatest pearl of wisdom which is so practical and life changing? the fee charged helps to ensure the practitioner doesn't give up ,we need value for money for the things we buy, its human nature, the technique is so subtle its easy to get it wrong however it is so easy to do if one does as instructed. Its nothing like the traditional Mantra meditations and needs personal guidance the mind is subtle and will innocently modify the technique so easily..... Maharishi warns against corrupting the technique by those outside the practice, this is why he reintroduced it , TM or a similar technique is an ancient one which over the centuries became corrupted resulting in it vanishing Some Mantra based techniques based on the original ancient TM corruption from all teachings are completely ineffective and the practitioner gives up usually with a headache!, waste of time and effort.... You will know when your TM practice is correct ,by enjoying the inner experience also the gradual change in the outer one too.

I have practiced TM for 30 years. It is a very specific practice and the mantra is determined for you by your teacher. It is a meaningless sound and each person has a different one attributed to them based on a questionnaire which goes into your background and life. It is a very specific practice best learned from a trained TM teacher. This usually takes place over four days, with each session lasting between 60-90 minutes. Also, you need to revisit the training a month later and then you need to do "Check Ins" regularly to maintain the technique. I know it can be costly but it is for a reason.

The system is quite similar to what headspace app is teaching but focus instead of a mantra on the breath. I ask myself why should I pay 1000$ as tm teacher say we only come I contact to what is already in us. I ask myself if the secret around the mantra is only here to make it so special an justify the expenses a kind of marketing gag?

Absolutely not! I have practiced TM for 30 yearsIt is a very specific practice best learned from a trained TM teacher. Good video Some correction.1. 90% of scientific research is financed by TM corporation. But there is some independent research too. 2.15-20 minutes is a minimum to maintain. Shorter than that-- you will simply not reach meditative state. 2. Do not reveal your mantra to others. This is one of the rules of TM, it makes considerable esoteric sense.3. Must not meditate near a meal. 4. People who learn meditation have many.many questions and teacher is there to answer those questions. for example: can I use a timer? What happens when I have uncomfortable thoughts? What if I experience increased anxiety during meditation? you NEED someone to answer those questions. But I agree TM is too expensive. and someone like this beginner, respectfully, simply doesn't have the answers. Maybe there are some Tm practitioner chat rooms? Good luck to anyone learning meditation.

TM can only be taught one-on-one in person. The instruction for TM are only half the teaching. The other half is based on the interactions between teacher and student, LIVE. By the way, TM is NOT concentration. The purpose of the TM mantra is to forget it.

@@nagodio If you live in the USA They also have a satisfaction guarantee: Learn TM, and if, within 60 days, as long as you complete the class, plus the 10-day follow-up session (free), and at least one personal follow-up (free) any time on or after the 10-day session; and meditate regularly for 30 days, you can ask for your money back if you are unsatisifed with how TM is working for you. Just a word of warning. Transcendental Meditation is a trademarked term. You could get sued by using it or claiming to teach it. I know at least one other vlogger who has gotten an cease and desist notice from the TM organization. Please be careful. Better to use Dr Benson's "Relaxation Response" since it is based upon his study of the TM technique. He won't sue you.

Is it possible that men don't think inside their heads as much as women ? Do you guys have a loud inner voice that won't shut up? Maybe this is why it's easier for you to "meditate", because you only think when you want to?

People should not teach meditation to make money! Doing so, can confuse the purity of the path. Mistakes of Pa Auk meditation shows common mistakes of breath meditation instructions

In india before the west took control through imperialism a guru would be fed and housed where ever they went and had little need of things. That is not how the world works any longer. Everyone needs to be fed and housed still but we use money to secure those means. The purity you speak of is a romantic notion that changes from time to time , from society to society and person to person. And in the words of Bob Ross there are no mistakes here just happy little accidents. lol
