+florian pichonnier en fait à l'époque, l'origine de la composition est partagée entre la France et la Belgique de nos jours, car Guillaume de Machaut vivait dans l'Est de l'actuelle France, zone à l'époque qui sera annonciatrice de la musique "Franco-flamande", d'où le rapprochement avec la Belgique :)

+Christoph Schneider Je ne vois pas pourquoi il faudrait "partager" Guillaume de Machaut avec la Belgique, il était de Reims. Enfin, on peut bien dire n'importe quoi, j'ai bien entendu un jour que sa musique était bretonne! Faut arrêter de tirer la couverture à soi.
J'aime le fait d'écouter une musique qui n'est pas du tout de notre époque, ça nous transporte et nous donne envie de voyager à travers le temps... le pouvoir de la musique est incroyable. J'aimerai revenir à l'époque du moyen-âge pour tenir informer les musiciens et chanteurs et leur dire que des personnes sont passionné par leur culture musical même après des décennies. C'est impossible malheureusement, c'est la raison pour laquelle j'aime rêver. Merci pour la vidéo !

what a world it was! everywhere green as far as the eye could see. miles of green between towns and cities! still lots of huge woods back then too. today, only eastern europe has that woodsy medieval feel and look. i suggest a vacation in Serbia! its gorgeous and drenched in a medieval aura! the history is everywhere!

You just have to look 😉 Normandy is one of the most historic areas in Europe. Green as far as the eye can see and quant historic towns and villages and stunning castles. Same with the Rhine River and Brittany among other places.

Ugh, kids these days don't know real music. All they listen to is Verdi, Chopin and all that garbage they call 'Romanticism'. THIS is real music

La langue anglaise peut inventer de nouveaux mots à chaque instant quand la nécessité s'impose. La langue française elle, n'invente pas facilement de nouveaux mots, elle préfère utiliser les mots qu'elle possède déjà et les combiner les uns aux autres pour exprimer des choses complexes. La langue anglaise est synthétique, la langue française analytique. Ceci dit, la chanson est très belle.
Je crois qu il n existe rien au monde de comparable ! Cela procure des sentiments indescriptibles tant ils sont feeriques !
Une musique envoûtante ! Ca prouve que le moyen-age était musicalement prospère et riche de d'harmonie. Merci !

Je n'ai guère apprécié cette interprétation du rondeau plein de tendresse que le vieux Guillaume de Machaut dédiait à la jeune et jolie Péronne d'Armentière, de quarante ans sa cadette!!!( l'amour ne connait pas l'age !!!). Je voudrais rappeler la merveilleuse interprétation qu'en avait donné Michel SANVOISIN et l'Ensemble Ars Antiqua de Paris : Disque édité par le label Arion en 1974...hé oui, c'est sde l'histoire ancienne et le pépé que je suis se souvient avec émotion de cette époque qui vit s'épanouir la musique ancienne et fleurir de nombreux ensembles. Et puis, ce rondeau doit etre chanté par un contre-ténor, accompagné au luth et non par une soprano qui enchaine cette mélodie avec la grace d'une marche militaire.

Certains morceaux de ce disque sont disponibles sur youtube il me semble mais je ne crois pas avoir vu leur version de "Douce dame jolie", malheureusement. Ceci dit, je vous trouve assez dur avec cette version mélancolique dont j'apprécie le charme.
The part of this song music has a beautiful melody. Little happy with little sad was accompanying the singer, who was hoping for the true love.

The first one represents the peace of mind experienced in a time period that was, and could be reborn when all the minds of men consider divine things as the only important endeavor. And the second song, the sublime love of a pure hearted knight towards his beloved princess, expression of beauty and justice. Though it's old french, it actually sounds more like early modern french. Old french is extremely hard to understand for an untrained native french speaker but here I understand almost everything.

+J. Hanna Yes and no. Old French is closer to the Vulgar Latin spoken in the Western Roman Empire at its fall than it is to Modern French. The similarities you're making out are likely due to sound changes that didn't occur in Spanish or Old French but that have occurred in Modern French.

Sir77Hill To say French songs have "nothing to do with England" is a bit of an exaggeration. What with the French speaking royalty after the *Norman* Conquest, shared religion (until the church of England) and centuries of cultural exchange. Other than that, they have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

There are so many English words derived from Old French that are still in common usage. I remember a story about some resentment in Quebec over the supposed importation of the word "toast" from English, but of course it's from the Old French "toster".
