Medieval Barbie - a 15th Century Swabian / Austrian Gown

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We are exploring another 15th century Swabian dress! This time, the inspiration is very fancy - lots of sequins, a sparkly hat, and a very fun dress!
* I forgot to add one detail in the voiceover: the hat is stuffed in the sides with regular polyfil!

    I love your German medieval/renaissance styles! There’s so much content for English and French styles, it’s wonderful to see what different and amazing styles can be found elsewhere during this period.

    Such a refreshing take on the Barbie dress-making frenzy across the KZreads

    This is made even better by the fact that Barbie copied the Bild Lilli fashion doll that was circulating West Germany in the late 1950s, so your hot pink Swabian gown is very on theme with that! That ensemble truly is the stuff of dreams, one which you frequently see Barbie themed fairytale movies. Hopefully the temperature drops soon especially as we're reaching the end of summer, so you can enjoy wearing that outfit. PS, that Taco Bell experience right there is so sweet, we all need a little color now and then to brighten our lives~

    What a fun outfit! I have a feeling if the swabians had fabrics like this back then, they totally would've made this

    Why would you insert an H in the pronunciation? There's 'Swabian' and 'Schwaben/Schwäbisch' 🤔 I am honestly confused 😅

    oh gosh, i love it!! the hat is epic! and the dress--unreal! that faux silk is to die for!! i wish i could have a skirt made from it--the pleating really brings out the beauty of the pattern without adding undue fullness. just enough swoosh!

    the finished outfit was beautiful, and I love the sleeves! Thank you, though, for introducing me to a different way of making a headcovering! I've been trying to figure something out with my beads, handspun inkle bands, and some pretty fabric for summer, but the ones I was seeing didn't really seem like something I'd want to wear. To the craft room! (hope you can stay cool 🫠)

    It is so perfect and cool! I love the way the sleeves are done. I haven't seen that before. The open back to them is so silly, but elegant at the same time. Especially with the fancy ribbon and aglets.

    What a gorgeous hat and outfit! Those lacing rings are brilliant. I hate making eyelets for lacing because i usually mess them up because i get impatient. After more then 10 years i am making a new costume or 2. The kids have dragged me back into the SCA and i only have bits of old costumes. Currently i am working on a Persian one. I had a too small green silk caftan and caramel (or orange depending on the light) sari. I cut the caftan open in the front and used the trim from the sari (brown and gold) at the opening. I am making an under dress from the sari. I already had the pants. Next will be a boring European cotton gown for outdoors events.

    The dress is gorgeous! Tho, you may regret those little rings...I used some on the front of a bodice and the lady who was helping me dress pulled on them like she would on a corset string...they broke off...don't let anyone help you get tied into your gown, I guess.

    Another truely awesome hat! The paintings of haube usually show them "poofed" out. Do you think they just had a lot of hair or would they have stuffed them with something?

  • @DaisyViktoria

    @DaisyViktoria

    10 ай бұрын

    It seems to be stuffed, or at least some added stuffing and/or structure! This one is fairly small compared to some but still has stuffing in the sides, otherwise it would be much flatter.

    Girl, sorry, I love you, but you got the map/region of Schwaben and where it lays with the "Roman Empire" a bit wrong. The region Schwaben that you are showing is in today's Germany, and Beieren. In the 1500's the Roman Empire did not excist anymore, and if it would, Schwaben would be more in the North of the Empire, for sure not the South East. As the city of Rome lays in Italy, to this day. Just to not have your subscribers that are interested not confused. (I live in the Netherlands, to the West of Germany, so a lot closer to it then you, I am not trying to be a smart ass, I could not tell you where the States in the U.S.A. are.) I love the dress you made!!! Much love, and thank you!
