The thing that gets me about that claim is that she’s basically saying she should be able to say whatever she wants. Then why can’t Depp do the same? Well then it’s because he’s lying (according to her), but how dare they question her character and whether she is lying? She’s arguing we should just believe her to believe her. Don’t ask questions; look at all these pictures, some of which have been demonstrably shown to be edited and submitted as different photos; everyone else is lying not me, etc. She thinks it’s unfair that people want to look at the facts rather than blindly believe her “free speech.”

I am a woman and a lawyer and I am certainly for women - especially abused women - to have a voice. However, when that voice is used to maliciously lie to defame a former partner or anyone else, that is an entirely different thing. Amber and her lawyers claim that the verdict has done damage to the Me Too movement, but she is the one who has done that, because prior to this case the Me Too claimants who were real victims have been given the benefit of the doubt in the media and elsewhere. Now people may (and should) want to hear actual evidence in a court of law before demonizing and cancelling men. We (men and women) should all be thanking Johnny. Shame on her!

@Deborah Brookes-Mangan "Now people may (and should) want to hear actual evidence in a court of law before demonizing and cancelling men." This should have always been the standard. In fact, I would argue that it was at one point. Movements designed to evade responsibility for one's poor conduct and decisions helped accelerate the demise of our society. I've always held people to the same standards of behavior regardless of gender. For the record, my comments are not about hate towards women, but an expectation of self control and accountability for one's life.

I am a brit, and a DV survivor. For six solid years I struggled to hide the pain I was in, the bruises on my face and arms and neck. I found that the more people knew about my situation, the more beaten I was. So hiding it became a fundamental part of my everyday life. AND YET, people noticed, my injuries were the type of things that make up just doesn't cover. Often my husband would slap me on the face, both sides instead of punching me because he believed the marks were less visable...but even a hard slap leaves a mark, and family members would beg me to report my husband to the police, because makeup couldn't disguise the red finger marks on my cheeks, and the swollen eyes I had, and the swollen face I would have. I would put concealer on my face but it didn't disguise it enough, even though I tried my best to cover it up for fear of more rape and violence. If she had photos of her bruises, she would have made a far bigger effort to produce them. But she had nothing except a single bruise she suddenly had days and days after going on tv and showing she had nothing, no swelling, nothing, no puffy eyes from crying, no bruises anywhere else. I am afraid the SHE WAS AND IS 100% STILL LYING. Once after she was going out with Elon Musk, they BOTH HAD BRUISES and scratch marks, which despite her makeup, we're very visable. Where were the ones from Johnny Depp? Lier, lier pants on fire Amber Heard, Shame on you! You are a deceitful and narcissistic woman. SHAME ON YOU!

Her own recordings, pictures & lies is eventually what doomed her from the start. To sit there & call "victim" when SHE was the one hitting, chasing him room to room & crapping in his bed?!??! Her lies are what destroyed her, NOT Johnny. Her being a fake & a phoney is what has hurt the women who really have been abused. This trial definitely shows that lies will come back to bite you & that men can just as easily be abused. Had he beaten her as badly as she insisted & "fake cried" about w NO tears, w the huge rings he wears, seemingly all the time as she even said, she would have HAD to have medical attention, wounds to photograph etc & there were none!! Even when she said her feet were cut & that he penetrated her w a BOTTLE?!?!!? And she takes a picture of the stupid mirror!??!!? And basically being "bittke raped" & she didn't seek medical attention or press any charges & stay w him. Even after thst she was basically chasing, begging & fighting to stay w him. If she was as abused & afraid of him as she said, she would NEVER say all the horrible, insulting, provoking things she said in the recordings. And to give someone you fear hurting you a huge knife?!?!! I don't think so. I am NOT saying Johnny never lost his temoer, threw a fit etc, but he definitely proved that deforemation was what Amber was guilty of. She said it herself on the stand "thats why I wrote the op-ed bc I know his power" why say thst if it was NOT supposed to be about Johnny???

After watching this whole trial and seeing the evidence I can 100% say that Amber Heard was the abuser in the relationship. She lied about being abused and she’s the one that hurts real victims. I’m tired of seeing the media spin this as a horrible loss for women but in reality it’s a huge win for all true victims of dv. She should be in prison for what she’s done.

@@tardislady9546 Justice was served in this case. Would you prefer a man’s life be permanently destroyed by his abusive ex-wife due to a pack of lies? Defamation cases are notoriously difficult to win, in order to prove that her statements were false he had to prove that he never abused her, and on top of that that her statements were intentionally malicious and caused harm to his career and reputation. Being rich or a man does not automatically equate with being an abuser and it certainly doesn’t shield a person from being abused. She severed his finger, stubbed a cigarette out on his face, slammed a door into his head, threw a can of mineral spirits into his face, punched him in the face repeatedly (including his left eye in which he’s legally blind), threw pots, pans, vases and cans at him, shat in his bed, verbally and emotionally abused him. Then she blackmailed and extorted him out of $7 million by falsely accusing him of abuse and then lied that she’d donated the money to sick & dying children because she didn’t want the world to think she was a gold digger which she absolutely is. Then she defamed him 2 and a half years after the divorce because she wanted to destroy his career. Then perjured herself on the stand on 2 different continents (3 if you include her illegally smuggling dogs into Australia). Defending the indefensible is not going to help anybody in future. Amber Heard is a liar and an abuser, she is the person you should be angry about. She has slapped every DV survivor in the face with her actions. Johnny Depp was her victim and has finally cleared his name. He should be commended for highlighting the very important issue of DV against men and the stigma and gender bias that is ingrained in society against men coming forward. He should not have to fall on his sword for every actual male abuser when he is an innocent man.

@@guitarboy0211 part of the problem with changing is that you have to be the one who wants to change. No one else can do it for you. Even if therapy, rehab, or any other programs are court ordered, if the person getting sent to them doesn't see the need or desire to change, it won't happen. Even if they do want it to happen, it is a long and painful process usually filled with lots of setbacks and failures before real changes start to take place. My mother struggled most of her life with drug addiction and alcohol abuse. She wanted to quit, but kept slipping up over and over. Sometimes, she would go a pretty long time without slipping up, but she still hung around with people who had no desire to quit that would eventually tempt her or pressure her back off the wagon again and again. Eventually, she died from liver cirrhosis at the age of 49. She was always trying to force her abusive boyfriend to give up drugs and alcohol too, but he had no desire to quit and would only claim that he was going to change after she tossed him out, when he was in jail, or when he needed money or a place to live. She always took him back thinking this time would be different, but it never was. Truth be told, in my mom's situation, they were both abusive to each other and toxic. Neither one was truly 100% to blame for the crap they put each other through. She was better off without him, but that doesn't mean she wasn't abusive to him too. I'm not sure if he was better off without her because I wasn't around him without her being in the picture and it seems like he got into a lot of terrible things whenever they would split off. Much like my mother's toxic relationship, I don't think Johnny is completely exempt from some toxic behaviors, but in their case it seems like Amber was much more manipulative and abusive. What makes matters worse though is now, she's trying to manipulate the public into seeing her as a victim just because she's a woman and trying to bring all this always believe women mantra into the equation.

Sky News UK on the other hand have proved to be very much biased to one side. If I do see signs or proof of bias/shilling, I would be openminded to change my opinion depending on the severity. Been watching all sides and almost all news networks just to get both sides of the story. anyhoo, sorry for going on a tangent, have a good day.

He is absolutely biased against Heard. This is not objective journalism, it is simply a validation of his opinion. BTW, I am not saying that he is wrong. Depp won, justifiably as he was the victim, based on the evidence. Heard repeatedly lied about most everything. However, this guy “reporting” is absolutely telling the story from his personal belief. A true journalist does not express their opinions, either directly or implied. They state facts without being able to tell what they believe. He has failed to do that. FYI-JD fan from way back and never heard of AH until JD married her. Happy to see him vindicated.

Thankfully the Judge allowed the camera to come in. Think about all the articles and media coming out in mainstream during the trial and think about if we weren't allowed to actually see the truth ourselves. Johnny would have still won, but basically they would have ran a much more successful campaign of trying to paint it as the good ol boy club protecting him.

These things are good in an equal system where as before it was a system of all women should just be believed and the presumption of innocence was not there for men which i personally was bias towards at the start of this trial. This trial has done good for men scared to come forward and as for liars like AH they will think twice before trying to ruin someone's life. This is all good!
