Thank you for your review of one button functionality. Would it be possible to review the recording function - it is not best explained in the manual. Many thanks.

Thanks for checking out the video. The 'record' function is not a feature I have made use of on the Medeli, but I will have a look at it. Cheers

Hey, how do you layer or split for bass?

Hi thanks for your query. Regarding spitting the keyboard, you have to press 'SHIFT' then hold down the 'LOWER' button (i.e. the 'secondary' function of the FUNK EP button to the right of the LCD screen). This enables 'lower mode' - you can then select the 'voice' you want by either using the scroll wheel, or YES/NO buttons. Once you have selected your lower voicing (the upper will be whatever voicing you had set initially), you then need to select the 'split point' by holding down the shift key, and pressing the 'FUNCTION' button(s) - located to the left beneath where STYLE is printed on the keyboard. The trick is to select the actual split point by pressing the key (say middle 'C'), but you must do this while the function option is enabled. If you aren't quick enough it will time out, and your split selection won't be saved. If you want to permanently save your setting to a one touch key, you can do so by pressing and holding down 'STORE' (below the FUNK EP button) and then the appropriate memory button, e.g. M1, for a couple for seconds. Your setting will then be saved under this button, even if you turn off the keyboard. Also you can adjust the relative volume of each section by pressing 'SHIFT' then the 'MIXER' button(s). In this field 'LOWER' refers to the lower keyboard part's volume, and 'UPPER1' refers to the volume of the upper part. To adjust either, you again use either the scroll wheel or YES/NO buttons to change the volume to a level parameter between 000 and 127. But again you must do this while the feature function is ENABLED, i.e. before it times out. The process is similar for 'LAYERING', except you need to press 'SHIFT' then 'DUAL' (located to the right of the LCD screen below the 'Grand Piano' button). The specific sound is based on whatever you initial selection is (e.g. piano); with the layered sound being selectable by using the scroll wheel or YES/NO buttons. You can then adjust the volume of each using the 'MIXER' buttons as described above - in this case 'UPPER1' references the volume of the initial voicing (in this case the default is piano), and 'UPPER2' references the volume of the layered sound selected - e.g. strings, flute, choir, bass etc.

Hi Craig! Very nice to find such an informative info about the medeli 4200/thomann 5600 in english. I'm very pleased to like and sub. Is it possible to disable the piano playback when used as MIDI controller? E.g. when connected to VST or other MIDI device. I have an old Korg SP250 and it allows me to do so by setting global on/off. Also, have you tried to create custom user styles? If so could you please share your knowledge?

Hi thanks for subscribing. The best way to disable piano audio playback on the Medeli is to simply turn down the volume control on the keyboard - which then means that the only audio you will hear is that which is being generated by your MIDI control software (connected via USB to PC/Mixer with external speakers). Regarding 'user styles' - I have tried creating these, but with little success. I believe you need to run the Medeli PC software in order to load them: www.medeli.com.hk/download. My understanding is that you have to create your own MIDI track first (using external software), then convert this to a .sty (style) file. I have tried doing this using proprietary software, but the Medeli always fails to recognise the converted file. I found the following info online, but only got as far as being able to convert a MIDI file to .sty: ekladata.com/IhHZ9H76hY9cgSnIHNyJorIL95o/HOW-TO-CREATE-STYLES-or-RYTHM-for-the-FAME-G2000-or-MEDELI-.pdf Either way if it is drum loops etc that you are wanting to create, I think it is just as easy to play these back via a PC or other external audio device. Cheers

@@Songwriter74 Hi again! Thanks for the PDF link, it seems to get me somewhere, it outlines 3 tools/software (some of them are darn old, 16bit, sort of) to get the job done but I'm so excited to explore their solution. I encountered the same problem as yours with the sp6500 and its PC Suite rejecting MIDI created with DAWs, it's because they require MIDI format 0 with sections such as intro , main and ending. By the way, Medeli's PC Suite package you mentioned is missing a crucial dummy MIDI file (001STY.mid) used as a template, it has the right MIDI format/structure required to create styles, I contacted the folk at Medeli Hong Kong and they were generous enough to send me that missing template, I can post the link to my Google drive hosting the template if you're still interested to try again with your attempt to create styles using their PC Suite. Once again thank you so much for taking the time and helping. It was great help and I really appreciate it!

Hi, that's some good info you have provided. I spent about half a day fiddling with the software apps outlined in the PDF - half the battle (as you rightly pointed out) was that as they were such old programs, I had to do a whole bunch of research just to get them to work on my Windows 10 laptop (one thing that was required was downloading JAVA and making sure I had an up-to-date version of Microsoft visual c++ installed - just to get the MIDI2Style program to work). It sounds like you have better knowledge of MIDI than I do; so yes if you have that Medeli template file available I would appreciate being able to download it as per your suggestion. If you are not comfortable posting the link here, please feel free to contact me via my Bandcamp page at craighallen.bandcamp.com/. Thanks again - shared knowledge is power!

  • @Songwriter74

The answer is yes, though typically just with noisy keys in general. I have found this mainly to be the result of general wear & tear through frequent use. @@Songwriter74 I have this problem too. But I just bought the piano and it is already starting to proceed that buzzing sound on some low keys. Is this problem just in the piano when you buy it, or is there something wrong only in mine?

Bought this 6 months ago as my first quality keyboard.some days I love it some days I hate it. I now know I will never be happy without a pro keyboard. I am a 40 year guitarist used to having full control over my sound. These lower priced boards don't give you that. It seems 1000.00 dollars is the magic # for that.buy cheap get cheap.I like some of the sounds but the epianos and organs which are two of the most important sounds on a keyboard, are like children's toys. what was I thinking?
