I'll agree the friendly AI was utterly fucking useless, however the endless waves and stuff like that is exactly what the Marines/Army faced when in the Pacific Theater. I do agree the Japanese were pretty much bullet sponges but enemies have always been like that in pretty much every Medal of Honor title. I would say out of all the pre-modern war MOHs Pacific Assault feels the most historically accurate and believable.

My biggest problem (besides some of the ones you mentioned) was the poor hit detection. It seemed like any enemy past 100 meters was impervious to shots. So the few times you would actually get the drop on enemy soldiers, your weapons mysteriously had no effect on them, like they had some mystical Japanese force field.

this game was actually fairly decent, yes it's flawed, but you can tell that they wanted the same epic experience that allied assault did so well, and in some ways they kinda pulled it off, I had way more fun with Pacific assault than I did with rising sun and I found way more flaws in rising sun than I did in Pacific assault, either this game is good or I'm just a thick skinned idiot who enjoys crap, but I liked Pacific assault :)

I thought Pacific Assault was really good, I played it years later as I never had a PC as kid. There was great weapon variety and the level design was beautiful. I remember part of one level that reminded almost exactly of a time when I was exploring the bush here in NZ. The fact that the jungles were quite realistic was awesome and the short sections of gimmicky flavour were great. I enjoyed some of the harder and longer fights too.

I thought this game was really good. Sure it's got its problems and it's definitely not perfect, but it also has good ideas that work. The tactics of the Japanese are historically accurate and refreshing in comparison with dozens of WW2 games set in Europe. Their surprising attacks, combined with the exotic environment and a more tactical gameplay made it an enjoyable, more realistic take on the era, especially in comparison with Call of Duty. I'd say this was the last good MoH game.

Problems with this review: 1. Rifles are one hit kills to the chest most of the time, and to the head all the time 2. Weakest entry in the series? Most people would disagree with you on that 3. There is only one defense mission in the game where the enemies keep on coming, it is also one of the best and most intense moments of the game 4. I'm not sure if you're qualified to review a game if you don't know the difference between semi-auto and full-auto 5. SMGs are useless past 10 meters, you're going to be using a bolt-action rifle most of the time

+TheD3rp 1. Maybe if you're playing on easy. Git gud and play on hard mode, or can you not manage it because there's no regenerating health? 2. Most people would agree, going off the general comments in the video and the like/dislike ratio. 3. This is your opinion. 4. I'm not sure which part you're referring to, but does it really fucking matter? Why can I not review video games because I'm not a gun nut? 5. No, they're fine with burst fire.

  • @TheD3rp2

    @TheD3rp2

    1. I was playing on hard mode 2. I'm basing this off things I've read on reddit as well as actual reviews from actual critics 4. You don't have to be a gun nut to know that semi=half 5. You can burst fire them, you will only do as much damage as a 2.7mm Kolibri though. You're better off using a bolt-action that can drop the enemy in one hit either way

@@stefanustanudjaja5029 They are though. I'm currently replaying the game on realistic. I always take a rifle with a bayonet from one of the Japanese soldiers: one hit to the face and they die, and if you run out of ammo or have to reload when there is an enemy right up in your face, just stab them with the bayonet once or twice.

  • @gameragodzilla

I actually dug into the files and found that the Japanese rifles are all weaker than their American counterparts, and that weapons do more damage on Realistic. The Springfield rifle kills in one shot, and even the M1 Garand does while also retaining its semi-automatic function. So I tend to just stick to American weapons as much as possible and use the generic ammo pickups to stay stocked up.

I think, the biggest flaw of this game is the game is not giving enough/clear information about its mission. I oftentimes wander for hours and died a lot, only to found out its actually easy. Another flaw is the enemy is not dead/react after being shot at. Sometimes it happen many times, i think i am missing. But this problem is solved by moving to another position.

One of the weakest in the series... Ekhm, sorry, no way. JUST NO! You want to talk about underpowered weapons, try "Call of Duty: World at War" Multiplayer. Use anything other than a submachine gun, and You are screwed. Too many Type-100 submachine guns - this is what kills the realism of Pacific Theatre in this game. And oh God, the Woodpecker - Did somebody forget it's not MG-42? If anything, it's certain glitches that might kill the gameplay. Nothing else.

Eh. This game might not have realized everything it wanted to be but I still loved it. It had early animation + ragdoll effects that made combat super satisfying (need to be manually activated in a file nowadays) and the squad system was simple but effective. The Medic was the single best way to handle heals, as you can even be revived. It encourages players to stick with their friendlies because if you're knocked down your allies can cover you long enough to be revived. But a lot of friendly AI was unreasonably inaccurate and the never-ending jungles were frequently uninspired, but I found the gameplay strong and still give it a spin every few years. While I'm not surprised you didn't like it as you can be a pedantic dunce in some of these reviews, I still stand by the night defense mission as being really cool, despite being overly long and vulnerable to the game's inconsistent AI.

I liked the clearing of enemies village to village and going trough the jungle, on the other hand i hated the Perl Harbor levels they were to long, there is a bit of personal preference. I still like this game more then the older ones. It many gun types and the director's cut version has also the Johnson LMG.

I actually kind of liked this one when I first played it. I never did finish it though, and it probably doesn't have the replayability factor that Allied Assault had.

I really hope that even Respawn Entertainment was doubt about making a proper 100% historical sequel/expansion of Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault that takes place in Saipan, Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Disagreed with most of this review, this game had some bugs and lacked alot of polish on the controls and feeling, some of it was a bit crude,ai was kinda shit, but this game was very much fun and enjoyable and I have good memories as a kid.

This game is great! It looks very pretty, controls well, have different customized levels of difficulty, weapons are satisfying... Its the best jungle combat video game out there (even better than Vietcong) and is a nice reference to movies like Pearl Harbor, or even better, the thin red line. It does holds up to MOHAA,. feels like it but also is innovative: with the healing system, and the levels made like a succession of arenas (japanese villages)

Played it 2004 and now I tried it again and struggle to get on the jungle battles are tedious you can't really see the enemy, or tell the difference between vegetation and cover and sometimes enemies and allies. I'm constantly just trying to return fire to where I think its coming from. Also don't know the point of giving commands as it doesn't seem to make any difference on completing tasks in the end you always have to do everything yourself and the squad is just there as texture. Call of Duty 2 or Allied Assult was so more cinematic and immersive and this one really felt like a weaker contender

I liked this game for what it was and it wasn't as good as Men of Valor or Vietcong, as a jungle fps, but had some unique concepts at that time. It was often frustrating when you saw how the medic constantly got stuck and let you die often.
