Medal of Honor is a 1999 first-person shooter video game, developed by DreamWorks Interactive and published by Electronic Arts for PlayStation. It is the first installment in the Medal of Honor video game series. The story was created by director/producer Steven Spielberg.
In Medal of Honor, the player takes the role of the fictional Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson, a former C-47 Skytrain pilot in the Air Transport Command who was later recruited to the OSS. The game takes place near the end of World War II, (mid 1944-mid 1945). The goal of the game is to complete objectives, such as destroying enemy positions, and kill enemy German forces in the process.
Jimmy Patterson as pictured on Medal of Honor: Frontline
The game also includes a split screen deathmatch mode, pitting two players against each other in various maps. Players can also unlock several secret characters after completing the game or through cheat codes, from notable historical figures such as Filipino patriot José Rizal, playwright William Shakespeare and even outlandish characters such as a German Shepherd dog and a velociraptor with a The Lost World: Jurassic Park design.

    Not to mention the AI, they searching for you if you escape the fight, you can shoot the gun out from their hand and they use the secondary. If you throw a granade to a group of enemies sometime they throw it back, sometime one of them jump on the grenade to try to save the rest. You can shoot somebody in the leg, and they start limping etc... Yes, it was a long time ago on PS, and even then, was not the best looking game and nobody had any idea how to program good controls on console for an FPS, but the AI behaviour beats most of the modern days AAA games (2016). It is a shame. One more thing wich does not ecxist anymore: Split screen multiplayer, with dedicated PvP maps.

    +RevanBladeZ I haven't played them. I've only played Allied Assault plus the expansions and Rising Sun. 2010 and Warfighter look like they're just trying to catch the Call of Duty audience but the trick is that they already have Call of Duty so why would they need another game like it? I bet a WW2 return with modern graphics would be such a welcome return to the franchise.

  • @RevanStarrrR

    @RevanStarrrR

    Detective Lizard Yeah they tried to catch the Call of Duty audience but the thing is, Call of Duty developers know how to make a heavily scripted shooter work. Developers of these two games clearly did not. The story was barely even there, the scripted scenes were not impressive, there are moments where they try to add length to an already short game by having the NPC:s talk some shit before opening the door and both games are so linear that its painful. Example, near the very beginning of Warfighter, there is a scene where you cant aim away from a head of an enemy without shooting. Later in the game there are sections where you press the button and game starts playing for you. The game is just full of moments where you press button and then watch things happen instead of having full control over your character.

    +RevanBladeZ I hate it when they remove control from you ingame. Ever since I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein a couple years back campaigns that force me to listen to exposition in the middle of a level annoys the hell out of me. One reason they do it is to hide the fact the level is loading so they make you listen to the beef head soldier until the part of the level has loaded and he'd slam the door open. I bet if they did a WW2 MoH game now it would be a welcome return though how well it would sell is a different question entirely.

    +RevanBladeZ They probably wouldn't be impossible to port unless they lost the source code (which happens). Though even if they had lost the source code, sega has posted a lot of their games on steam running on emulators, so they could just develop custom emulation to maximize performance on windows for these games as well.

    I loved the old MoH games until Rising Sun came out and ruined everything. Also, I'm pretty sure you can change the controls so that the left thumbstick allows you to strafe and the right thumbstick to aim and turn. I wouldn't have been able to play it otherwise. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of a crosshair when you weren't aiming.

    I actually first played this on an emulator myself a few years ago out of curiosity as sort of a look back from Call of Duty games, being that this inspired allied assault which was made by the original CoD team. Then after beating it I played Allied Assault. Both I will say are worth a play if you are interested in game history or just classic style gameplay.

Support for the console was long dead (it was around 2005/6), but I didn't know that at the time. Still, the M1 Garand sound will forever bring me back to a much simpler time.

    This is one of those games that deserves a remake/remaster on a pc, MoH: Underground included. Adding mouse support, a higher aspect ratio, and a greater field of view would easily make them better to handle. A great example would be the remaster to the N64 classic Turok. I can see it happening with MoH. I don't know why nobody has ever picked up on this idea. Copyright, difficulty in porting maybe?

  • @aedanclarke

    @aedanclarke

    8 жыл бұрын

    ripoutyourprejudice Well, I'd say that it's expected that the game's missions would feel similar. You wouldn't buy a sequel to your favorite game series, only for it to feel very different. Medal of Honor always had the kind of feel of "authentic, but pushing it," where they did a good job making you feel like a soldier in a bigger war, but putting you in situations in which you were pulling out really important shit, often by yourself. At least it did in the earlier entries. By the time they started dishing out the PS2-era MoH games, that feel had changed entirely. As for the mission pack - I never got around to playing those, so I can't comment on them - but the mission pack is just a mission pack. It doesn't necessarily make the entirety of MoHAA a remake or anything, IMO.

  • @ChrisMathers3501

    ripoutyourprejudice Again, no. It doesn't matter if it's the same place, because it's a different time and a different character. That's why it's more sequel than remake.

    I have this on my shelf. I played this on my Silver PS2 which is sitting in the living room. It is an excellent game the game play is where it is at and I have no problem with the visuals because I know it's sense of spirit because I played most of the other installments save one. This is where the amazing theme and sound track all started. I am also in Love with World War 2 history and such. Though I don't think I will ever play COD WW2. It is funny because my friend dropped this off and said here it's "Sims 2000". It was a futuristic Sims game for PS1. Once I opened it up one late night for the hell of it. It was not sims it was MOH and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. The split screen PVP is still awesome and there are many cheats and codes you can unlock various characters my 2 favorites being Raptor and Bismarck. Bismarck was a German Shepard patrol dog, as well as slide shows from different Devs about things in game during development and jokes as well as pictures of them and their families.

    You can actually change the control scheme to the standard left to move right to look scheme in the options, my man. It's much much much better that way.

    Not sure about that game but i know that Underground (the one that came out after this) on ps1 had a controll shema which was execlty like a modern game. Left Stick walking in alldirections and right for aiming.

    One of the greatest games ever. The soundtrack is incredible. It's cool Steven Spielberg was involved. This was one of the first games ever where I saw enemies reacting to bullets. As a kid my jaw dropped when I saw Nazis jumping on grenades or holding their sore crotch after a penis shot.
