Hey, just wanna say, you may be a jack of all trades and master of none in a team. However, in a team, you are the one who connects all the dots and knowing something about everything enables you to tackle issues from a different angle, to think outside of the "specialization" box.

Yeah i always think about how first combustion engine was invented. If you are fully mechanical enginner you wouldn't know about chemical reactions and combustion, and if you are fully chemistry enginner you wouldn't know about how energy created from combustion could be transfered and used with mechanical parts. Some smart ass that was mediocre in both areas had 'eureka' moment and designed the first engine.

@Cricketdude69 It's a tough degree. I am now going to finish the degree part-time while I get sales experience and try to go into engineering sales and engineering consulting. My advice is find a student organization/ club or engineering society. Anything that connects you with other engineering professionals so you can tour their workplace and learn more about the different jobs they can do. That's what made me realize I didn't want to be an engineer, but still be in an engineering industry

I recently graduated with a bachelors in mechatronics engineering degree. I did lots of cool stuff in uni. But I personally found it difficult to do my own projects simply cause I do not have the space in my house to do anything. Also I do not know if I would need to move. Also i still have not found a job after graduating.

I’d say keep your focus on what you already know you love (the programming), and consider delving into electronics later once you’ve become more advanced as a programmer. Programming is a vital part of a lot of electronics now a days and your experience will translate wonderfully later on if you come to explore electronics. Especially if you’re more into the maker side of things with tech like arduino and raspberry pi

I did the mechatronics technician training program at workforce, then I went to a trade school for industrial electrician, which was essentially the same thing. We had to build a robot from scratch out of a box of scraps, use an industrial computer; plc, nano plc, or micro plc. I had all three, but chose the Allen Bradley plc. I liked it better. Then I built the robot arm from from a box of microwave oven parts and stuck it on a conveyor belt to sort bad parts. It wasn't very fast but it worked. The plc stopped the conveyor and started it back up and moved the robot. I ended up with a job at KC where I only do electrical work and no mechanical work. I also got the state certification for robotics technician for Fanuc robots but for someone the company doesn't let me near the Fanuc robots in the warehouse or near the AVG robotic forklifts in the back either. I guess their scared that I'll reprogram everything back there. You can get a really good job with that mechatronics or industrial electrician technician degree.

It's definitely something to look into if you're interested. If I can give some advice, consider picking up something like a robot car or arduino starter kit online or at an electronics department store to give this stuff a try. It'll give you taste of what can be done and overall gives you a better grasp of electronics in the process. That and getting a computer earlier are probably the two things I wish I could change about my own childhood/teens.

@@VirtualDreamers Thanks, I'll look into that. Also, I talked with my parentd about it yesterday then they said mechatronics is not a good degree especially in my country where stuff like robotics are highly neglected. That's why I should just pursue a career in a master of something path which is the Mechanical Engineering. But it's not that bad. I'll work hard then someday I could try to start a bit of robotics, just not now because I don't really have the funds to complement it lmao.

Worthwhile advice since I'm kind of experimenting with that content right now: it's a mix of technical skills for builds (the mechatronics stuff) and showmanship (the content creation aspect). Projects like Michael Reeves' aren't necessarily all that difficult for someone with novice-intermediate engineering/programming skills to create, but he supplements that by having excellent presentation skills and a good knack for comedy. Dude's highlighted this quite a few times actually, whether it be with quick jabs like "easy programming, easy revenue" or when he was reacting to Stuff Made Here.

Honestly, it is not about being a mechanical engineer or having a master's degree, it depends on the individual and the areas of knowledge that you want to master, a mechanical engineer will never really replace an electronic or mechanical one, simply these things depend on the individual, not on the race. It is unpleasant that people believe that a title defines what one is capable of, no, a title does not differentiate an idiot from an intellectual.
