    One (of many) thing I like about the Wizard is he's willing to fix something that can be economically repaired. A lot of 'mechanics' are glorified fitters and just replace anything when it breaks regardless of cost. Like with the Bentley rear window regulators on Tyler's video, you can tell he was really enjoying the job of reconditioning them. That's the kind of mechanic you want working on your car.

  • @CheezyDee

    @CheezyDee

    @@Seabat70 Some ballasts tolerate LEDs, some don't. I don't know what my company had for ballasts, but we got rebates from the power company to switch to LED bulbs and most would work at first, but if you shut them off and turned them back on right away they wouldn't light up. Eventually when they started installing motion sensors this became intolerable so they had to replace at least half of the ballasts. I think the best thing for any business considering this is contact the local power company or even a local electrical supply.

  • @mrpink6446

    @mrpink6446

    Agreed with this guy big time. If you know an electrician (or are capable of bypassing a ballast yourself) You can easily go the route of some LED Bypass bulbs that go right into old florescent fixtures and that would easily cut that bill in half. Would be a decent upfront cost at like 8-12 dollars a bulb(possibly cheaper if you go the bulk route and do it all at one time). But with that many lights certainly it has to pay its self off sooner rather than later! Loved hearing the backstory. Great to see you and your wife tag teaming this youtube thing together. I love that she took up the role of the computer wizard so you can keep doing your thing as the car wizard. Thats team work.

    Nice story. I love to hear about fellow mechanics and their journey into it. I took Automotive in HS. Went into the Army at 18. Got out at 23. Everyone wanted me to go to college. Dropped out after 1 year going for a BA in Hydrology. Wanted to work for a automotive shop. Did not want to go to school or buy my tools. Found a truck shop that needed a Mechanic helper. Started in Diesel fleet maintenance. Been a Diesel mechanic for 20 years plus. I eventually had to go to school and get lots of online training and certifications. I ran a side shop and almost opened up one. I decided against taking the risk. I love what I do. The only problem is with the shortage. I do work young bucks should be doing. When I first started in 01. Old timers did the gravy work and the young guys did the dirty work. My field has eliminated Shop foreman. Not much room for advancement. We are treated very well in 2022. Employees know I can find a job in 1 day. They leave us alone. I was recruited to my current shop. Was given a huge bonus and they pay for my kids college.

    Hey..... That's not a bad idea and certianly worth checking into! I think there are federal and/or state funding for such equipment. Also, if you get to the point that if you produce excess energy (above and beyond what he consumes himself) the power company is REQUIRED to buy his excess power at a fixed rate and put that power back into the power grid. And like what was mentioned.... that is a LOT of flat roof space. :^)

The worst have been dealership service departments. Solar panels are a publicity stunt. The initial investment is only repaid in 20 years then you need to replace them cause they lost there efficiency. Which just puts you back where you started. I have worked this out a couple of times with different companies and different solar panels. Over the 20 years of installation you might profit $100 to $500 before you need to replace all of them. It is really not worth the time and the money. You rarely get your investment back.

    @@boerebru Just not true. The cost of solar panels and battery storage has dropped 90% over the last 10 years and continues to fall. THey are a great way to save money on utilities and have a long life. they might lose some efficiency after 20 years but they will still be providing 80 % or more of the original capacity. You guys don't have to believe me. But i would like you to think and do your own research cause clearly you are drinking the Kool aid. Ask yourself this; Why have so many solar companies failed? Why is solar so heavily subsidized from the government and still fails. @james you are either lying or can't do math proper. I have seen many a company install solar panel on there huge buildings of roofs and then a year or 2 later you go there and they disconnected it and work on normal electricity. Why? Cause it is not cost effective and reliable. Yes if you live in the middle of nowhere it's the thing to have but you also still have a diesel generator on standby. We still need about another 10 years of solar - and battery technology for it to catch up to the cost effectiveness of regular electricity production. Ask yourself Japan the most advance technological country in the world doesn't even really invest in solar but in nuclear why is that?

Even through all this time and the forklifts stabbing into the metal wall it's still in great condition. Plastic or clear roofs would just make it break more often. Also maybe even bring down value. Then heat. They don't have AC.
