Rachel McAdams’ Regina George feels like she’s analyzing and testing Cady. Like you can tell there’s ulterior and devious motives. She really does embody the “mean girl queen bee” spirit. Her “so you agree? You think you’re really pretty” she knows Cady can overtake her so she starts making moves to keep her in line by keeping her close and as a minion. Renee Rapp’s Regina George feels like she’s just intrigued by Cady. Same lines but there’s no “bite” or “mean girl queen bee” persona. She just looks fascinated about the new girl and wants her to be her plaything. No ulterior motives… Renee Rapp feels too chill and a cool girl to be the Type A Regina George most people know in my opinion

I kinda agree, except for the "cool girl" vibe. I watched the 2024 movie and this new Regina is literally so rude to everyone, while in the og version she's a two faced girl who plays nice in your face but backstabs you in the back. That's how realistic the og was, the reason why Regina is popular is because she's likable, if she was just rude all the time people wouldn't care for her and would just see her as a brat and that's it.

I agree . To me it’s hard to tell the actual difference clothing wise between Regina and Janis now because they both wear dark alternative clothing. Studios need to realize it’s okay to have girls wear pink and be feminine and still have the girlpower theme.

The huge difference is that the new one seems like they're waiting for their line. It's memorised, delivered, and done. The original seems genuinely natural and like a real conversation which I think is one of the things that makes it more memorable because its so realistic, and also less Disney-vibed

Honestly, something about the original that clicked with me was the way Regina reacted to Cadey saying she was homeschooled. As a homeschooler I related so much, it really felt like you could picture Regina judging her and realizing that she was a socially deficient "jungle freak" as the other characters call her. The new scene just kinda seems like, oh new girl let's see what she's about. Not really much wit or nasty cleverness which was important to Regina's character.

​@@butterflyera​​​ ​I kinda disagree on how nice the new one is, like look at their body positioning and facial expressions differences, Rachel is a lot more subtle with her arms folding on each other, friendly eyebrows and face, asking Cady to sit with them, doesn't make Cady move out of her seat, the only time it seems *oh she's scary* is so when she said "You think you're really pretty?", Cady really can't make her out, with Renee, just watch her face expressions, outfit, legs crossing on the school table, doesn't even want Cady to get close or invite her to sit and how she ask Cady to move out of the way just to have a private convo 😂, if this was in another era Renee looks like the GF of the lead gangster in school

It’s the intense eye contact that makes the original so scary

Regina seems more chill and Cady seems more confident in the new version. There's not as much tension in their conversation compared to the OG movie. It didnt seem as pivotal or impactful

Yeah but the scene still looks fabulous imo

The direction is so weird. Like why is Gretchen the one stood up? Wouldn’t it make sense for Regina to be stood up, signifying that she is the head of the social hierarchy, and the puppet master for the group? Instead Gretchen is the only one stood in the shot and appears over Regina/Karen at the end. In the original, all three were sat but Regina was firmly in the middle, showing that Gretchen/Karen literally cannot have a conversation without her, Regina is front and centre. The empty chairs opposite showed us how everyone else was afraid of them. Direction has a purpose, it shows the audience hidden messages about the characters and location we’re seeing. But the new version doesn’t do any of this, there’s no framing of Regina as Queen Bee.

Renee's sweet and flirty personality comes through. Rachel is more mean and intimidating.

The fact that the plastics in the new movie aren’t even wearing a tiny bit of pink on them :/

Really sad that they cut like half of Meet the Plastics, it’s kinda vital to the story in the musical, and the part they cut is literally one of the most popular parts of the song 😭 it gives context for the “my name is Regina George, and I am a massive deal” line in World Burn, which they kept in the movie (??), super confusing if you’re not familiar with the musical. Also disappointed that the actresses for Cady, Gretchen and Karen aren’t… very strong singers, the soundtrack is really missing the three-part harmonies of Regina Gretchen and Karen. Renée Auil’i and Jaquel are amazing singers, but unfortunately they don’t make up for the disparities (even after Janice and Damien sang Cady’s part in Apex predator).

that's probably the reason why they cut Gretchen's and Karen's part, because bebe and avantika aren't strong singers so they won't be able to pull off the harmonizations at the end of the song properly.

I feel like new Regina is a 24/7 annoyed girl who CAN be nice if she tries But old Regina gives off dangerous, two faced, calculating snake vibes 👑 (Don’t mention OG Janice istg that girl was my icon 😭)

The new movie tried so hard to not be a musical and to be a musical at the same time🤣

the delivery of the original just can’t be beat

This comparison makes me appreciate the og casts' acting skills even more.

The only improvable part of this scene was Auil'i with "I have your lunch" that was funny

I cant tell if 2024 is too cartoony or too stiff in terms of acting 😅 it's probably both.

why does it always happen to me that i watch a movie and i feel like it's pretty decent and fun to watch but when i go on the internet people are painting to be the worst thing they've ever watched in their whole lives?

Honestly the acting (except for Renee Rapp) is shockingly bad compared to the original Renee Rapp is a surprisingly good cast in my opinion. I think the classic Queen Bee type from Rachel McAdams is outdated today, she would not seem enviable, she would just seem bitchy. Casting Regina George as a cool girl was a good move, that is more the type of person everyone envies and wants to be friends with. But at the same time she exerts a certain dominance and control that makes you feel a little uneasy when talking to her.

To me Renee just looks angry and annoyed with some hostile body language, just compare her expression to Rachel, Rachel has almost none of the malice in facial expressions if you pause at her face in every single frame, even if there is some it's quite subtle, but Renee, just pause at 0:54 and you see it 😂😂
