Reconstitution idea: If you were camping, you could put the individual hot items back into the big bag or a pot of hot water keep them hot like a water in chafing dish, and that would keep from burning the items but had heat to help with absorbing water back to normal. On the cold side, maybe try on ice cube and a little less water but that wouldn't be available camping. Out camping we did it in a nice cool creek.

Flour tortillas 3 cups all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 cup shortening, and one cup of hot water. In a medium bowl mix all ingredients together except the water. With your hand mix until the shortening is incorporated into the Dough. Add a little hot water at a time while mixing the dough your hand until the dough binds together. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured counter, knead briefly, just until the dough forms together, If the dough is sticky gradually add a little bit more flour. Divide the dough into 12 pieces. Roll into balls, flatten slightly and allow them to rest covered for about 30 minutes. While the dough rest, preheat an ungreased cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat. Working with one piece at a time roll out into a circle. keep the rest of the dough covered. Dry fry the tortilla on ungreased skillet for about 30 seconds then flip over and cook the other side. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.

I plan on trying lots of fajita/taco/carnitas mixes as I have a tortilla press and lots of masa mix. You could totally learn to make your own tortillas! All you need is water amd a press or rolling pin and some plastic wrap (lots of people use cut a open ziploc to prevent the tortilla from sticking to the press or rolling pin). Worth learning and I am so glad I did! Thank you for the video!

Great video John. I've been slowly getting through all your videos. On your first one you said you were looking to find a place off grid. Did you find your land and are you running your freeze dryer off the grid? Thanks

Your smaller bags are pint sized and your large packaging a gallon bag? I had trouble getting 3 pint mylar inside a gallon bag...& sealing well.

Tracy it is a tight fit but the ziplock helps if you close the ziplock on the gallon bag it is easier to heat seal. I can't remember if I actually used a pint bag for the yogurt but if I did you can pretty much flatten it before ziplocking and heat sealing, for the main meat and rice bags I think I put one in fat side down then the other fat side up, this way they overlapped each other. Hope that makes sense.
