I gave up on pan pots and went with 2 separate volumes for 2 pickups. That's with an Aguilar onboard preamp. It was probably 2005 when I did all of this. The effect was something like a useless weakening in the middle (supposedly blended) positions with all the strength on the extremes. Did something happen to make pan pots useful these days? My first guess is: active pickups are what it takes.
@TylerMillsftw
6 жыл бұрын
There are different blend tapers that work better or worse depending on the pickups, also active pickups will have the same problems (insertion loss) when both pickups are on full. The best way around this is using an active or buffered blend potentiometer, which some preamps have. For Victor's bass it doesn't actually go full passive because the pickups are always active, it's a preamp bypass. Audere has a great preamp out for the price that includes a buffered blend, I use it on one of my basses and it's awesome. Music Man Bongo's also have the same type of blend knob.
