Agreed

The main difference between those cars is not the top speed. Its the grip and the corner-speed. Modern F1 cars are in a different world in therms of grip and traction. But you can also see why the 1988-McLaren was so sucessfull in that year. Its even more flat and down to the ground than the 2018 McLaren. Gordon Murray indeed knew what he was doing.

What stands out for me is the slow gear changes of the old sequential gearbox. Wow! There is literally a quarter of a second between each gear shift. Just adding up all the gearshifts, 1 second lost for every 4 gear shifts... That's a lot of time lost just there already.

Jim Wichert compared to the cars around the 95 era, the cars of the mid 2000's were between 7-10 seconds faster per lap. The pace now has defiantly dropped since 05-08 but only by around 3 sec on average, still several faster on pace. The cars of old were amazing, but Alonso wouldn't have simply passed Sena, he would have done so with authority

Mew Two When Alonso can win a race with only 2 marches in the car, or can run without front brakes, or be the only to win in Monaco 6 times and 2 vices... then you can say that he was better. The death contributed to to him to become a Legend, but say that he overestimated is just stupid.

Mew Two Alonso is one of the most overrated racers ever, even more than Senna. He was lucky to win 05/06 when Ferrari was in a really bad shape due to the tire restriction and Schumacher's engine exploding in 06. Alonso's Renault, despite not being the fastest, was arguably the most reliable and enduring car of the grid....so those who say that Alonso was a god in a shitty car are delluding themselves, specially those cocky spaniards who never had any decent driver before.

That pause between the mp4/4 gear shifts though....

DAMN, I actually believed this was a REAL Comparison. What a Ripoff.....

Good lord, would you all please be quiet? This video was meant to compare the performance of two McLaren F1 cars from two different eras. The big difference they're trying to compare in this video is the level of technology and advancements in aerodynamics and engineering in 2018 compared to 1988, not good driving or such. If I had to say something, the two cars here were likely driven by the same person or two people with very similar paces to each other, but that was meant to highlight how F1 cars have changed over the years, and also shows how advanced the MP4/4 was for its time, given that it was given a 10 second head start and despite its now-near-inferior aero, still managed to hold out until the last few moments when the far more advanced MCL33 overtook it on the final straight.

Senna never would of gave up like that

Lucas Crispim essa informação é incorreta. Potência não necessariamente resulta em mais velocidade/desempenho, para esse caso. O Lotus 97T do Ayrton tinha mais de 1000 cavalos de potência e seria engolido pelos carros de hoje (alguns anos atrás os carros de F1 tinham "somente" ~750 bhp)... Outro exemplo que pode ser usado. Bugatti Chiron tem ~1500 cavalos / 1600 Nm, muito mais do que os ~1200 cavalos / 1300 Nm do Koenigsegg Agera RS. Contudo, o Bugatti pode fazer 0 a 100 mais rápido, mas pelo peso e a aerodinâmica o Agera é mais rápido no quarto de milha (402m)

Senna em 1988, na pista de Mônaco (que praticamente é a mesma até hoje. Isto é, não sofreu quase nenhuma alteração.) fez o tempo de 1'23"998 com a McLaren mp4/4 com motor 1.5 V6 de 685HP @ 12.500rpm. Já o britânico Lewis Hamilton, com a Mercedes V6 Turbo-Híbrida fez o tempo da Pole, para o mesmo Grande Prêmio de Mônaco, em 2018 de 1'10"166. Simplesmente QUASE 14 SEGUNDOS MAIS RÁPIDO que Senna de 1988!!!!!! Os carros atuais são muito mais modernos e sofisticados que os carros do passado. Basta ver essa tecnologia nas ruas. Hoje temos um UP TSi 1.0 (UM PONTO ZERO) andando mais que muito carro 2.0 do passado.

Jose Morales in the second tron movie we find out that kevin flynn from the first movie has vanished from thin air and people assume he either ran away or died. Ee later find out that he is actually trapped in this computer simulation he built called the grid for 20 years and thats why no one could find him. 1988年F1イタリアGP予選で、アイルトン・セナがMP4/4で出したタイムが「1分25秒974」でポールポジション。 2018年F1イタリアGP予選で、ストフェル・バンドーンがMCL33で出したタイムが「1分22秒085」でQ1最下位ノックアウト（ポールタイムはフェラーリのキミ・ライコネンが出した1分19秒119）。 ちなみに、日本GPやった鈴鹿だと、1988年にセナが出したポールタイム1分41秒853では、今年の日本GPだと107％ラインに7秒近く及ばず予選落ち（Q1トップのルイス・ハミルトンが1分28秒702なので107％ラインは1分34秒911となる。Q1最下位のエリクソンが1分31秒213。ブービーのバンドーンが1分31秒041）。 コース改修などもあるから同列で比較できないとはいっても、やっぱり時代とともにF1は速くなっているんだな…と思う。

阿久津剛志 セナが1988年のモンツァで出したタイムだと、2018年イタリアのモンツァでは107%ルールすれすれで予選は通過できる（それでもQ1最下位のバンドーンより4秒近く遅い）。 これが鈴鹿だと1988年のセナのポールタイム（1分41秒台）をもってしても、今年の鈴鹿では107%のカットラインに7秒近く届かず予選落ちとなる。

@@matchan3216 当時のモンツァは第１シケインのレティフィロがダブルだった事を差っ引いても107％ギリギリ。セクター１のS字～逆バンクで見ても、以前はボトムスピードが140～180ほどなのに対し、今（昨年のハミルトン参考）は逆バンクでも200切るかくらいでしたからね。鈴鹿やシルバーストーンのようなエアロサーキットでは顕著ですよね。
