McIntosh + B&W Home Theater & 2-Channel High-Performance Living Room Tour w/ Sony TV, VPI Turntable
Ойын-сауық
Today we’re touring a great home theater that is also an incredible high-performance stereo music system at its core. We think you’ll enjoy seeing how we pulled off such a cool system in an open living room without using a dedicated home theater room or listening room. For those of you who follow our home theater showcases, you know we like to show something new in every build so, in this video, we spend some time showing how you can overcome substantial room layout challenges like this completely open floor plan and still achieve both a great stereo and movie experience with a terrific look at the same time.

Thank you, yes that is a fun time!
Appreciate this video. I am Finishing up a similar open living room build and one of the challenges was separating the two channel gear from the HT rack so the turntable and McIntosh preamp were in the room. Long runs were needed and upgrades to the previous processor to allow for xlr cables. I am sacrificing a bit on the centre speaker height to keep the TV in a more ideal position. The build in the video had the TV a tad higher that I personally like.

Finally a video on the B&W diamond series system. By the way to anyone curious the speakers alone cost $100k. The Macintosh amps and other equipment I am sure is another 50 - 80k. I'm very confident that room has $200k worth of audio equipment. Rock on!!!

What a great concept! Nice work! Just a small diagram showing the switching between cinema and HiFi modes will be great. Thanks
@AudioAdvice
2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. For HiFi it is pure two channel with only the main left and right speakers running. The McIntosh preamp feeds the two mono amps. For home theater, the JBL processor sends everything out to the center, Atmos, surrounds and subwoofers, but also sends the left and right into the home theater bypass on the McIntosh preamp. Thanks for watching
Interesting, subwoofers in corners, floor standing speakers closer to center speaker. I may have to try it. I thought subs were better inward. Such a great video and an amazing system. Congratulations to the owner.
@AudioAdvice

Glad you enjoyed it. You should experiment with your subwoofer placement, we have an entire video on the subject www.audioadvice.com/videos-reviews/how-to-set-up-a-subwoofer/ Thanks for watching
Great video and awesome project. I have a similar space and this provides a lot of great ideas on the design. One thing I was interested in is to see how the rear surrounds look in the space. I didn't see 1 clip where they were in place. Yes, the space looks cleaner without them in the scene though I really wanted to see the aesthetic with all the speakers in place.
@AudioAdvice
9 ай бұрын
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed. The rear surrounds are actually all the way at the back of the room behind the dining table. Obviously they are not in the most ideal location but the homeowner wanted them completely out of the way. I hope that makes sense for you to understand where they are at. You can always reach out to our team at audioadvice.com for more advice in a space like this! Thanks for watching 😊
Another very well executed job. Those speakers almost literally disappear against that black fireplace wall. I know his wife gotta be happy about that. 😂
@AudioAdvice
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, they look really great against that wall.
Room looks clean, and its probably for most of the people the choice (design>performance). I personally miss the acoustic treatment installation like a Acoustic Ceiling (like Knauf or Ecophon Products) and some treatment for the first reflection points. But when the owner is happy everthing is alright. Ive also a big room with 1,5 m more ceiling height han this room and i‘m so annoyed by the Acoustics and Reverberation. Cant wait for next year when an Acoustic Company install all the treatment : P

Very nice work here Scott. I am a big fan. Question: wondering if for a smaller room set up (250 SqFt) something simpler for the stereo portion like a MA7200 (which also has pass through) instead of the C49+mono blocks would also do the trick (I am also watching the budget) especially as I have B&W 802s which I would connect to the MA7200. Appreciate the thoughts on this. Thanks.

Very nice setup!! So my setup I’m running a 5.2.4 B&W 702 s2 towers, Htm71 Center, B&W Inwalls n Inceilings, Dual SVS SB3000 Subs. Im powering them with an Anthem 720 Receiver, Anthem MCA325 Amp for my LCR and an Emotiva 7 Channel for my atmos n rears. My sources r a bluesound Node2i, Denafrips ares ii external dac. So if I want better 2 channel setup, do I need to add a preamp to this system w ht bypass to get better 2 channel sound?
@AudioAdvice

Thank you! That is a very nice set up. Please reach out to our team at www.audioadvice.com to talk about options. Normally we would tell people to add a power amp to the receiver, but you already did that!
Hi, I own the B&W HTM71 S3 center channel and am interested in putting it in a cabinet above the fireplace. Do you know how much space I need surrounding the speaker? Also, did you say you need to add foam on the walls surrounding the center channel?

Hi sir. I am great admirer of your work. I am planning to buildd a home theatre in my house. Sir i have a few questions 1. Which is best type of screen in terms of image quality : acoustic or non acoustic screen.. which one gives better better output both contrast and color......
@AudioAdvice
2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. We strongly feel Stewart makes the best screens. Any type of acoustically transparent screen will have some trade off in image quality. However the audio upgrade by having the speakers behind the screen makes your theater so much more like a real movie theater. If you get a Stewart THX Microperf and sit more than 10' away, you will have the best of both. Please reach out to our team at www.audioadvice.com for more questions. Thanks for watching

@@AudioAdvice You are the very first one that I have seen on KZread to use a Monoblock on a center channel, which now that KZread has enabled 5 channel audio they will be able to listen and watch music videos using the center channel speaker as I have experience with KZread audio. KZread music listing experience with surround sound is now another demission it envelopes and engulfs you. Thank You. P.S. I wish they would have gone with the Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus speakers and displayed that incredible Mcintosh system, what a masterpiece you have created.
