Welcome to the latest MoDXtra: Games & Collectibles action figure review. In this instalment we're taking a look at the McFarlane Toys Kaneda on Motorcycle from the film Akira.
I've described this as a "retro figure review" as McFarlane Toys released this figure in 2002. We've all got that one line, one IP, that captures our collector's imagination, and this has been a set I've had my eye on ever since I first saw it. BUT as a discontinued line I was at the mercy of the Gods-of-eBay now I have... y'know... a job and money of my own to buy one. Lo and behold, as I did one of my regular searches for Akira merch I've coveted a well-priced Kaneda on Motorcycle came up and... well... I won the auction! The monument to Akira in my nerd altar looks even more complete!
This review will involve a brief unboxing of Kaneda and motorbike, an overall view of the figure and vehicle, and then some detailed thoughts around their aesthetic, articulation, and accessories. (My action figure review Triple A's LOL) How does this older Akira model stand up now, over 20 years later? How much have McFarlane Toys changed over the years?
