I mean, we have a character who repeatedly tells a donkey to get out of his swamp. If that isn't a metaphor for draining the swamp, rejecting the Democratic party, and possibly deporting immigrants, then I'm not sure I understood the movie at all

@@brandonwhitaker8468 This is ignoring both the circumstances of the story and Shrek's character growth. He is not "draining the swamp" by wanting the other fairytale creatures out- they were forced into his home by a tyrannical government that captured and evicted them under pain of death in a mass campaign for "perfection" and racial purity. The swamp is not suited to house them, they themselves do not want to be there, and Shrek, ostracized and maligned all his life fir being an ogre (even by other fairytale creatures) and disallowed from participating peacefully in the outside world, does not want the only thing he has to be taken from him. When he later deposes the ruler behind this (admittedly more for personal reasons), the fairytale creatures are allowed to return to their homes to live without persecution, and he remains on good terms with them, as he invites them back to the swamp for his wedding, and several are seen visiting at various times in the future. Wrt Donkey specifically: Shrek may tell Donkey to get out of his swamp, but 1) is largely unsuccessful 2) never actually utilizes force in these attempts, despite being capable of doing so 3) befriends Donkey over the course of the movie, with Donkey ultimately becoming his best friend and a big part of his life going forward (including frequently visiting the swamp). If you want to interpret it symbolically, make of this what you will, but it just doesn't work (whether as a message for the movie or a reflection of Shrek the character's personal ideology) as a simple metaphor for wanting to oust the democratic party beyond isolated moments removed from their original context.
