I don’t comment on videos… pretty much ever. But this was the best walkthrough of something I’ve seen. Good job mate and thanks. I followed this tutorial and it worked flawlessly. Took an hour.
Crazy to think that the hardest part of this is running the wires from front to back. Everything else was easy thanks to the video. Thanks!
I am totally late to the upgrade game on this one because I loved the AIO tweaks and didn't want to lose touch screen while driving. Well, my digitizer started to delaminate and so I had to do work anyway and the unofficial Android Auto was too flaky...so I bit the bullet and did the upgrade. I just have to say, your video was perfect. It saved me a bunch of time with the fishing trick. I think every other video I've seen they really lead you to take more pieces off. I've seen videos with the entire dashboard off. Makes no sense. Your video was super helpful, thank you!
Just want to say thank you for your video. I held off on retrofitting my 2017 CX9 for a while. Finally decided to get it done and your video saved me a few hundred dollars. I think the longest time for me was wrapping the cord with the foam. I bought a kit of eBay for $120 and it worked fine. However, a difference I notice was that foam included was different from yours. It was more of a dense foam and it came in a roll, like masking tape. Also, my cord has noticeably less slack. It was probably, 2/3 the length of yours. Regardless, install went well and now have AA & Carplay. Thanks again!
Perfect instructions. We just completed in about an hour. No issues. Thanks so much!
You deserve a big thumb up! I followed your video and successfully upgraded my 2017 CX9. Got both Carplay and Android Auto running in two hours. Spent 130 instead of 600 at dealer. I'm not skilled with automobile stuff but your video is very detailed and thorough. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Amazing video. You saved us all. Took me about an hour. Gave up fishing and what I did was tucked under which was tricky as well but worked in the end. At the same time that I did all this I also ran a lighting cable that comes out at the corner of the dash so my CarPlay cable is now basically hidden.
One of the best install videos that I've seen. Actual useful walkthrough
Finally got around to this install today. Your video was a great help as there are no instructions with the kit. Not going to lie, a bit of anxiety that it would work, even after making sure the firmware was ver 70 or higher... It’s working great, hope it stays that way. Side note... lots of people ask about he CX-9 reliability etc... I’m just turning 100k on mine and it’s great, no issues, everything like new except the clear coat on the wheels.
Finished the install thanks to this great video. The hardest part was pulling the cable through. Took me a little over and hour, granted I watched the video 4 times. Thanks
Fantastic video!! Thank you for that. The CarPlay kit I ordered will be here in a couple of days and you just made this install so much easier!

THANK YOU!! I'm subscribing just to help you out and return the favor. The local dealership quoted $150 for parts and $400 for install. I followed your video and everything went exactly as described......$107 out of pocket in total. Wife is super happy with her CX-9 now - and I owe it to you. Your effort is very much appreciated, sir. Keep up the good work.

Me too this video saved me lots of $
Good video - thank you for putting it up. For anyone in Australia (or a Right Hand Drive country), still run the cable down the right side of the centre console just like he did in the video. You'll also see that there's a big silver bracket when you remove the side plastic cover which isn't in his car but that'bracket is on all RHD vehicles. The most time consuming part for me was getting a wire hanger through the correct position as it kept getting caught and then using the foam tape that came with the Mazda kit and wrapping it around the long lengths of wire and then putting a zip tie around the foam too for good measure.

Hi Alister K - agree - I just did this on my wifes RHD Mazda CX9 here in Australia, tried the LHS but didnt work - RHS does, had to squeeze past the big metal bracket with 'RHD' stamped on it and yes, passing the wire to the back was the most time consuming bit of the job - but all works great!
Thanks. I upgraded directly from 59.00.502 to 74.00.324. Then I leaned on this video to avoid removing entire middle console by using fishing the new cables along the side panel and to get my drop down the dash.
My kit will be delivered on Friday. Thank you for the video!

Done yesterday following ur video. Just a note to others, the blue and green end should be together at one end when you are taping them together with the foam tape.
Thanks for your videos covering the firmware upgrade and the installation. FYI, I was able to remove the old hub without breaking the clips. You just need to press back on them with the screwdriver and it pops straight out.

Thank you so much for the video it was really help full, specially the coat hanger trick, I fixed the audio in Australia in about 1 hour and it works every thing works fine I would recommend this to the CX9 users, excellent , Cheers Mate
Great video, followed exactly and on my CX9 it took me 2 hours (mainly because I was very careful removing pieces and was watching the video several times since I have no experience at all doing thist type of things) But if I had to do it again it would take me 45 mins. Good instructions and I appreciate the time to post this and instruct us all. It works!!!

Hi, Excellent video. I'm planning do this upgrade to my wife 2018 CX-9. Her's car firmware is 59.00.504 NA N . I still need to confirm must first update will be 70.00.100A then to latest 70.00.352B. Do you know, I 'm right? After this is done, then purchase hub kit.
Thanks for the great video walkthrough. The Mazda instructions include removing the glovebox, etc to secure the cables inside the dash. Did you do that or find it unnecessary?

Nice video. Thanks for posting One question. I'm guessing you didn't use sponge tape on the wires from where they come out after dropping down through the area you fished to the back? I believe the direction call for it to be used all the way back to reduce possibility of vibration noise, but not sure it's really necessary. Have you had any noise issues?
@Killobyte

I suggest using the sponge tape wherever possible, but we've had no noise issues.
Thanks for the video. Does the new hub support fast charging?

Think its worth going just wired versus wireless?
Hi, I installed a Mazda factory retrofit for car play and android auto. For car play it will disconnect randomly and you need to unplug and plug in the phone again. For android auto the disconnects happen but not as often and the phone auto connects. Any ideas on what I can try? Firmware is up to date. Used oem cord. Is there a way to test the hub?
Just watched your video right after the purchase of your 2016 CX-9 and I see you still have it. Are you happy with it after all this time? How has the reliability been? Am thinking about getting a used 2016 Grand Touring and wondered if you had any thoughts.

Very happy with it. The only issue we've had was when it started hesitating off-idle. That cleared up after using the CRC intake and turbo cleaner. kzread.info/dash/bejne/iq53k6-DocrRd5s.html
First of all thank you for the install video. But quick question is anyone else getting Mazda connect restarting? Apple car play worked great for a few weeks. Now I consistently am getting random restarts
@Killobyte
4 жыл бұрын
Try a different lightening cable first as that is the most likely cause. If that doesn't resolve it, you'll want to check all the connections between the hub and the head unit.
Thanks for this video. Did you disconnect the battery before installation? In the video it looks like some components are still running. Also, did you put the old SD card into the new hub?
@Killobyte

I did not disconnect the battery. The SD card does go back into the new hub once everything is installed and working.
@tristanmarshall3070

I figured it out, no need to disconnect battery. The old SD card is for the Mazda navigation. Anyway I followed the instructions exactly, took a little less than an hour, and Android Auto works perfectly! Thanks again for putting this video together.
Thanks for the amazing video. I now have AA in my cx9. However, the Mazda navigator no longer works. Is this typical or did something else happen?

Check the USB hub for a white “phone” icon next to one of the USB ports. If you have one, you should be able to plug your phone into it and run CarPlay.
Should we remove battery negative connection before the installation?
@Killobyte

I did not and IMHO it's not needed.
Good video, and the process is pretty easy - except fishing that wire inside the console. Be warned, there isn't a lot of room in there, and this will definitely slow you down. More time showing this part would've been appreciated ...
I was assuming this would work wirelessly(Android carplay) and also that the USB ports would fast charge our s20 phones. Both were not true. Is that normal for everyone or did I do something wrong? Pretty easy process so I'm guessing it's just the way it is lol.
