Mazda CX-3 CarPlay / Android Auto installation - CARABC 00008FZ34

My friend got this module to add CarPlay to her Mazda CX-3. I got to fit it and didn't have to remove as much interior as expected.
I hope someone finds this useful.
This is the one for a CX-3

Glad you got it installed. Kind of late but I thought i might save future installers time and potential damage to the console, etc. Cheers! There is a much easier way to get to the USB Module box without having to take apart anything. I have a 2019 CX-3, and I didn't plan to need the original USB box again, so using a 5/64 drill bit, you measure 1/2 inch from the sides of the box, you slowly drill by the edge of the top of the box (being careful of course to not move off the box and damage the whole front grill) and when the bit hits the plastic clips, it breaks it. You do this for the top and bottom. The box then pops right out. I REPEAT...using the drill breaks the clips off, and leaves 4 holes in the front of the old box. So you you wish to retain the original box for some reason, you need to follow David's way of getting to those pain in the butt clips. :) As for removal of the screen and dropping the glove box, you would need to do that, but once you drop the glove box and remove the screen, you can clearly see the cable running down. Slowly pull the USB box out and the original cable comes with it. Drop the new cable down from the display area, pull it through the area for the new box, connect it, pop the box back in, make your connections to the display, verify function, tidy up the wiring and re-assemble the display and glove box. Done! BTW, I normally take my car to mazda for oil changes and I just asked if they could please check if the Mazda Connect software was updated and they updated it to the latest system at no charge. Tip for anyone doing this, I advise you to use the blue painters tape and tape off around the display using multiple layers of tape to prevent scratching up the top dash. while you slide and wiggle the display out and you can safely sit the display on the tape without having to completely remove it. All you want is access to the back of the metal box the comes out with the display to reach the connections.

@@DavidMcLuckie it is much faster. Also consider a wireless adapter. I got one as a Christmas gift for a close friend. He loves it. I will get one for the wife's car. At the end of the day, having this ability does away with the need to replace your navigation system or really update it.
