Mazda has no idea how long I’ve been waiting to have this feature. Its one of the main reasons (along with the Turbo) I waited so long to buy a Mazda 6. It’s WONDERFUL Upgrade. Mazda may be late to the party, but they’re still earlier than Toyota 🤭. Ever since I bought the Mazda, touching the screen in my other car seems foreign and uncouth, I love using the rotary dial to access everything. Also, I love how easy it is to toggle between Android Auto and the native Mazda system. Great job Mazda!

Hate that touchscreen input is disabled for Android Auto. Using the control wheel is not intuitive, takes longer, and ultimately forces the driver to focus away from the road. Very disappointing. Touchscreen is enabled for Apple Car Play. Why not for Android Auto!?

I use Android Auto every day for past 3 years and this is an excellent showcase of how much the carmaker UI sucks compared to Android Auto. It is literally 10 year behind with design and flow of the UI.

Have a 2022 Mazda 3, which also includes a wireless charger for my phone. Android Auto works great via cable, but wish I could connect to Android Auto via bluetooth, and simply place my phone on the charger. Seems silly to take the design to 95% of were it needs to be, and not give it wireless capability for Android Auto.

its great to natively support android auto, but please be aware that you cannot use the touch screen which really sucks!! i dont really understand why, Mazda cant claim its due to security reasons because they allow touch screen with apple's car play... and no, even if you are stationary and with parking on, you cannot use touch screen... it sucks to input addresses or select any options on waze... just upgraded the infotainment system in my 2016 cx5. But I can't use the touch screen? If google maps recommends a different route that I want to take, how to I select the proposed route? How many clicks or knob turns does that take - assuming it's even possible - and how much more does that distract you vs just being able to click on the screen. Having access to Google Maps on screen is nice but the lack of touch screen functionality is frustrating.

Although we could argue a bit about being able to use the touchscreen while moving (especially because of the hazards related to it), I can understand that $400 is steep for something like this (even if you get a better usb hub, although that is one of a few different things they do behind the dashboard). Honestly it's a nice feature but don't understand why they disabled the touch screen functionality while the Apple carplay function works fine with touchscreen while the car is not in motion. you have to use a rotary dial to control the user interface and it makes it even more difficult to easily navigate between the menus while you could just use a touchscreen to press on the exact feature you want to use.

Yes. You have to update your head unit software and then install a retrofit kit that comes with a new USB hub and two cables. For more details, just Google "Mazda Android Auto Retrofit". If you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself, you can ask your local Mazda dealer to install it for you. Prices vary from dealer to dealer. I just did this retrofit myself to my Mazda 3 and the whole process took about an hour because my head unit was already fully up to date. I purchased the retrofit kit from amazon. The actual process varies based on model and equipment.

Useful information, but please stop the hideous 'music' that accompanies it . Android Auto on my 2018 Mazda CX-3 is of limited use because it lacks touch screen features. So my phone is still better than Mazda's version of Android Auto. It was incredibly expensive to add it on, and now that I've had it for a couple of weeks, I can't recommend it. The touch screens on our phones don't freeze when we are driving, so we are forced to use them because of Mazda's misguided software engineering. There's an even worse problem with the native navigation system in the car that won't let you add an address while you are driving. Thank goodness for Google Maps.

Currently, none of our models are equipped for wireless Android Auto, but the 2021 Mazda6 now comes with wireless Apple CarPlay.

you can't use the touch screen while moving, and in order to use it while not moving, lol you have to engage the electronic parking brake. Apple CarPlay has all the features even while moving. Been trying to get it to work with my old Android device but I have to root it and install the app manually since its not officially supported since its a tablet.

Just had it done on a 2015. Don't waste your money. After update and 400 bucks, while in Android auto you have zero usability, none what so ever, use of the touch screen even when stopped and parked. Try navigation, music etc. Sucks. Using my phone screen is easier and faster than a knob, pushing, twisting, pushing and down, when I can just touch my phone. Waste of money. PS..apple car play works with the screen!! Total BS. Wish I could refund.

You can buy a AA Wireless dongle for $60. Cheaper than getting a wireless feature on a premium trim.
