WOW. What a great video! Thoroughly explained everything. Loved how you showed exactly where to connect the multi-meter. My problem seems to have been the shift actuator. Luckily was able to pick up the part locally. Only took a few minutes to reinstall it. Ran the recalibration mode as you showed and everything seems to be working. Running a test load now. Thank you very much!!

Hey @Bens Appliances and Junk, I lost my job a couple weeks ago. About 5 days later, my Maytag Bravos washer wouldn’t agitate or spin. I’m fairly handy, so I did some searching and found this video. Following your advice, I was able to figure out it was a bad capacitor. I never knew about the hidden service manual either! I inspected/tested the other stuff just to make sure I didn’t have multiple problems. My man, I spent less than $60 as I only needed a new capacitor. You saved me 100’s of $$$ at a time when money is tight. Thanks.

Thank for the very well explained video. I am just blown away with the technology in this machine. It appears that the problem we had with our machine was that someone or a power interruption caused the cycle interruption and it just lost it's memory of where it was in the cycle. I tested the machine with the diagnostic in the control module, according to your instrictions and all came out ok , so I ran the memory reset and "Presto" it works like a champ! Thank you again for your directions as they were extremely well described!

Best video on this washer that I've seen. Nice job! The Tech Sheet can be accessed from under the washer without removing the lid. For the black actuator, the drive motor is tested between pins 3 & 6, not 5 & 6. Pin numbers can be found molded into the male electrical connector.

I can't thank you enough for this tutorial! I am an old lady (65) who has never attempted such a thing before. I didn't understand the error codes fully (not your fault), but I took a chance on the shift capacitor being the most common cause of a Maytag not spinning, especially if it has been overloaded. Guilty! This has been a most valuable experience. I learned two very important things from this. The first being DON'T OVERLOAD THE WASHER and two, when something is as easy to change out as this shift capacitor is, YOU CAN DO IT! You saved me a service call and I thank you so much! Will you marry me? Just kidding, but almost not kidding at all. This made me beam with gratitude. Thanks also for telling me about the nut driver because I didn't have any.

Ben, your videos were a great help to me. Within the last week I had a washer that would get stuck in the spin cycle. From your videos, I learned how to check and read codes...found 2 codes, one for the lid lock and another related to the shift actuator (an F5 code and F7E1 code, respectively). I replaced the lid lock first and ran recalibration...it got stuck in the spin cycle...no lid lock code but still the F7E1...had to order the shift actuator from McCombs in Lancaster (I am from NE OH myself) but I got that today and was able to get a full load through tonight. Thank you for these videos! Very well explained and helpful!

Excellent video !!! Originally I got ripped off by the appliance repair guy from Sears who came over to check the washer . He ran a two minute self disagnoses and said it would cost over $600 for a new control board to repair so it wouldn't be worth fixing and gave me a 10% off coupon to buy a new one at Sears and charged me the $79 diagnoses fee . After watching this video I found out it was the actuator so I bought a new one for $25 and now the machine works perfect. Sears pulled a total rip off scam to get you to buy a new one. I complained to consumer affairs but they said it's legal to scam and cheat consumers and they really don't so anything down there but collect their government pay.

Great video and a real help. My own problem was a bit different but this video helped me sort things out. Two additional observations: First, my problem was that the machine would fill but wouldn't go into "wash". I had several codes that were close to, but not the ones listed here. I found a broken wire on the capacitor connector. 30 seconds of soldering: problem solved. Note that the wiring around the motor assembly gets a good deal of motion and over time, metal fatigue can set in and break a wire, usually near where it is crimped (like the capacitor connector). The other comment is that I was able to use the drain and spin setting (could probably use the rinse and spin also) to clear the machine but it also verifies that the motor assembly and the pump are working properly. Thanks again!

Thanks for a very informative video. Our diagnostic code (F7E6) pointed us in the direction of the shift actuator, that as it turned out, tested fine. When I pulled it out, I noticed that the long plastic pin was not in the oval slot on that clutch thing. Once I figured out that the actuator was fine, I moved the clutch lever so the pin on the actuator was able to engage and reassembeled. Ran a calibration and everything was back up and running just fine. I think I may have read somewhere that if you have a really unbalanced load, that pin can come out. Best of luck in your business.

Hello ben. Thanks for getting back to me regarding why messing with the lid switch can be dangerous. I thought the motor was leaking oil the parts place said Motors don't leak oil and it's probably coming from the transmission.. 240 bucks and a week to ship. I'm going to check your video regarding the transmission but it's probably time for a new washer. This one's only 5 years old. I guess they're designed to quit after that long. Junk.

I picked up the new Fluke Multi-meter and was able to get much more accurate resistance readings. Although all of my resistance values, for the various components, were where they should be, I deduced the root of my problem was still in some way, related to the shift actuator. When engaged to spin, the tub spins but when manually testing agitate, the actuator failed to shift to agitate. Likewise, when engaged to agitate, the pan agitates but when manually testing spin, the actuator failed to shift to spin. Therefore, I purchased a new shift actuator and installed it. After calibration, and additional manual tests of the spin and agitate functions, it seemed to be working as designed. After 5 wash cycles I am able to confirm replacing the shift actuator resolved my issue. THANK YOU, AGAIN for the wonderful walk through!

Thats the BIG secret on these machines - if you understand the diagnostics, you can just "Sit there" and fiddle with the knob until you isolate whats bad. Any more, when we get this type in our shop, we won't plug water in until we just throw it on an open electric plug, and start testing all the non-water stuff thru diagnostics and manual test. You can eliminate like.... 90% of problems that way in maybe 10min if you deal with them enough. Super "Simple" system once you know how those awful lights work.

HOWEVER, let me just add before you start taking anything apart get a drop light (very bright light needed) look in seam around drum and center piece (actuator I think). I removed $0.26 cents which had locked up the machine and it would not wash but did spin. Almost called a service man cause codes told me that the Motor/Capacitor was the problem. Removing the quarter and penny saved me $189.00 service call plus any parts they would have magically insisted I needed.

Ben: My MDW655DW was making a horrible noise and then quit spinning. (Last year I replaced a bad transmission, the splutch and belt.) Upon tilting my washer up, I discovered white plastic powder under the unit and a perfect circle ground out of the belt guard. I found that the nut had come loose. After reinstalling the splutch nut, the washer spun and worked perfect! Thanks for your video!

Thank you so much, Turned out loose spluch nut causes belt to slip, not completely on which wouldn't allow the washer to spin. Tightened spluch nut and perfect spin! Saved me a $250 service call. Maytag Bravos X MVWX700xw2 Thanks!

I'm not handy at all.. and I'm watching this video intently, trying to decide if I want to attempt this, or call someone... and I get to the part that says "This is dangerous, so keep your hands and belongings away from the unit, unless it's a Nickleback CD." and I lost it... roared.. thank you! Yeah, if you can fix it, fix it. These SHOULD last 10 years before a critical failure. Most parts to fix them are.... $50 tops. Most are $20-35, though. We fix a LOT of these and outside of a bad transmission, the codes make fixes easy.

@@bensappliancesandjunk I'm not like a tree hugger or anything but, I'm the type of person that will squeeze every bit of life out of something before I consider throwing it out. Our society has grown into a "Throwaway" generation. I have nine servers in my house in a rack. I built all of them with hand me down and throwaway parts. Been working for 8 years now with no problems. Electronics in landfills is more serious than just "Stuff". It's arsenic, cadmium, lead, etc. That stuff gets into groundwater so, I do whatever I can to keep stuff running without resorting to buying new. People like you have made it easier for me to learn how to fix more things and, I appreciate it!
