YOU NAILED IT! She is a dangerous control-freak and a narcissistic sociopath. She definitely held some kind of power over John. As much as he claimed to be one person who cannot be 'fooled', he was fooled by her and before that by the not-so-magic-Alex. So many people called her the 'dragon lady' because she was only 'nice' in front of a camera or around outside people. Otherwise she was always very cold and distant even to the people she claimed to love.

Every time I read or see something about May Pang and the "Lost Weekend" period, I get the feeling that May Pang would have been the better partner for John Lennon. Both for his social life, he again spent time with Paul McCartney, other artists, and most of all his son, and he was more artistically free, didn't had to try to please Yoko and her avant-garde tastes. It may sound old-fashioned, but for a man like John Lennen it's probably better to have a woman who supports him and not one who controls and manipulates him. Unfortunately, it was probably John Lennon's weakness that made him dependent on Yoko.

If you write a book like May Pang and make it public, you also have to live with the fact that it will be analyzed and interpreted. I'm sure she would rather have it that way than if no one was interested, because then she wouldn't have sold any books. And she certainly knows that the interest only exists because it was John Lennon of Beatles fame.

I begin to recognize John Lennon as having Borderline Personality Disorder. Takes one to know one. Marilyn Monroe had it too. The new details I'm learning about John via May Pang is filling in many missing pieces. That out of proportion jealousy and fear of abandonment is a big red flag. I knew he was jealous. But this is off the deep end for an adult.

@@lornahuddleston1453 well, a big part of the problem was he was enabled by Yoko and their deeply codependent relationship. And cognitive therapy wasn’t quite as sophisticated back then at diagnosing these issues with the precision we have today. Pretty sad for him.

It seems like she let that one year define her life. He treated her crappy too,tossing her aside to run back to Yoko. Instead of getting over it,she dwells on it. 😢

People want to hear May's story, they dwell on it, she gives them what they want, we don't know if May sits around thinking about the past when she's just having a regular day, and not being interviewed.

May Pang is matter of fact and believable which should have been a breath of fresh air compared to the circus that was John & Yoko.

The more I listen to May Pang's interviews on her new documentary, "Lost Weekend: A Love Story", the more obvious it becomes to me just what cruel and entitled people both John and Yoko actually were. They used this star struck impressionable young woman as a placeholder during a problematic time in their marriage then pulled the rug out from under her with no other explanation than that "it was time" -- completely ignoring both her feelings and her humanity. I guess Pang's tendency to rationalize John's abrupt return to Yoko while implying that she was his true love is her way of saving face. Especially since she continued to allow herself to be strung along by him during the last five years of his life. I say "strung along" because if Lennon had truly loved and wanted to be with May as much as she believed he did he would have left Yoko and Sean just as easily as he had left Cynthia and Julian. He was the one who ultimately held all the cards.

Certainly, but I think it was much easier for John to leave Cynthia than it would have been for him to leave Yoko. Yoko had all finances under control. She also dominated John psychologically and emotionally. John often called Yoko mother... probably a very strict mother!

Yoko kept John away from his son. But at the end of the day it was his call. So John was at fault. He was a woman beater. Pathetic.

John's weight loss was due to heroin addiction. The macro diet was just his excuse.

I think he also had a distorted image of his body. I have a feeling Yoko took advantage of that anxiety, and controlled his diet by encouraging him to adopt her diet of coffee and cigarettes (when she wasn't doing Heroin) Controlling a person's diet is another item on the checklist for destructive cults.

Um... no. He was on heroin by the end of the Beatles, but had been 'cold turkey ' by 71 or so. Maybe he relapsed now and then , but many sources have stated he wasn't doing hard drugs when Sean was born till his death 75-80. Don't make shit up that you don't know as fact.

Yoko encouraged John's solo career. She knew John could do so much beyond the Beatles, and that is why John loved her so much because she inspired him. Even Cynthia Lennon said, (as heartbreaking as it was) she knew John was in love with Yoko. It was clear from the Get Back documentary that Yoko did not break up the Beatles. They were breaking up anyway. George left the band during the filming of the documentary. While Yoko gets a lot heat. She remained quiet and to herself after John's death. If she did have an agenda, it remained the same, talking about world peace. Whereas May Pang lived the rest of her life after John's death on a media tour about their brief relationship. Of course a book that she wrote is going to make her look like the better match for John. There are two or three sides to this story, and we only know May Pang's side. Yoko never exploited her relationship with John or wrote a tell-all book about him. And she never came out with a rebuttal on May Pang. I have more respect for Yoko. All I can say, is if a man really wants to be with a woman, he will be with her. No amount of manipulation can keep him away (ask any woman who tried to win back her man after he fell in love with another woman). May can't accept the fact that in the end John always loved Yoko. He even wrote the song, "Woman" for Yoko after they reunited. Why would May want a jealous man who tried to strangle her? That isn't love.

I met Yoko several= times. The first by accident as we were on line to see a movie in 2001 Sean was with her. She talked with me and she said "The is New York, this is my home. This is where WE were attacked by terrorists. I love this city very much". She sounded quite normal to me. But what do I know. I;m a pig.

I respect May very much, but she has changed her story. She said it came as a complete surprise and had no idea Yoko planned to reunite with John. May said they were buying a house and had plans etc...

May was very young and sweet, and had no idea who Yoko really was then. She did write in her book that she was very nervous about John going to Yoko's to be hypnotized "for smoking", but John told her not to worry and completely reassured her and said he'd be back for dinner. May may have had an uneasy feeling that something was up, but John was really clueless. That was John's real "lost weekend".

The older I get the less I like John Lennon. He was a creep. The way he treated his son, and then used this girl-he hit her too.

May Pang she told the truth. Yoko was and is always playing the good spouse, but in reality she was a devil and John was under her command. But everybody has the right to be blind because of Love.

Yoko is very interesting and clever and artistic, and that's why John Lennon left his first wife, Cynthia, for her. She writes that in her book. Even though John and Yoko's marriage had its ups and downs, I'm sure he was very attracted to her mind and artistic spirit. And she was cute too. Cynthia in her book says that John was just getting more artistic, doing heroin with Yoko -- while Cynthia had been conveniently sent off to a Mediterranean vacation with bodyguard Mal -- dropping acid, etc. Cynthia wasn't into all that, and wasn't as out there creatively as Yoko. But I also read in Bob Dylan's autobiography that John and Lennon came off as sort of insecure together and in their own world. That they were on a flight to Newport and thought they were going to die, sort of strangely overreacting, etc. That was Dylan's take. I think many will say John was a mixed-up guy -- like a lot of artists. But I never met him, so what do I know?
