The Thai immigration website states twice from land boarder. Implying no restriction from an airport.

The only rule is two visa exempt entries per calendar year at a land border, not by air.

Interesting video Mr. Hart. Thank you for pointing a few things out . I comment because first time in 30 years I was asked at arrival “ do you have a visa “ I said no . In the last 2 years , I would have about 8 visits. Getting new home ready for retirement and personal matters. I never knew ( for last 30 years ) that this was a topic , until I watched the informative video . Thank you Mr.Hart

Previously I’ve had 5 a year travelling by air with 2/3 week stays and only asked once in nine years my purpose of visit.

They don't care if you have brief visits. They are more concerned about people who are essentially living in Thailand permanently or largely permanently by gaming the reentry rules.

Absolutely useless video! No idea what this guy is talking about? He has no idea either! Would not ask for advice on crossing the road from Integrity Legal.

From Royal Thai Embassy, London: "Foreigners who enter Thailand under this Tourist Visa Exemption category may only do so for 30 days at one time with a maximum of 3 times in a 6 month period by flight and 2 times a year for overland crossing."

During the pandemic I arrived on a 60 day visa, I then got nine 60 day extensions in a row. Pretty much spent 2 years in Thailand on a 60 day visa by citing the Emergency Decree. But once I left Thailand and returned a couple months later I was told I would be black listed for a year. Luckily I had already made plans to convert to a retirement visa. So they gave me 7 days to get it sorted. Have come and gone several times since without any issues. Moral of the story - Be nice, polite, and have enough money in your account for a long term visa.

In 2022 I stayed with my wife in Thailand about 40 days. Was no problem when I left. In 2023 my wife got sick so we went back to Thailand to see doctors etc... I stayed about 42 days and got dinged on my way out of the country. I mistakenly thought I could stay 45 days since I had no problem the last time. Lesson learned.

I am wondering if he is talking about 30 day extension? I was told by an Immigration Officer. only 2 extension for border crossing (visa run) per year. With unlimited extension if you leave Thailand and come back in by Air. which would be five or six a year. They also said be carefully cause some Immigration Officers might question the fact you are living in Thailand on Exemption status. This was told to me at the Extension Office at the IT mall a two months ago.

0:27 Thailand doesn`t have a RECIPROCAL arrangement with the EU. Thais have to apply for a Schengen visa BEFORE travelling to the EU (I suppose this also applies to the US and UK). If anything, these arrangements are NON -reciprocal. If they were reciprocal, Thais would simply get their passports stamped on arrival in the EU, and they don`t. Thai PM has recently been trying to change that and I root for him doing that. Alas, it takes years to get anything arranged with the EU bureaucracy.

Same with the USA. We have visa exemption to Thailand yet Thai citizens need a visa to come to the USA. And if you thought Thai citizens coming to EU/Schegen countries is difficult (which it is). It's near impossible for most Thais to come to the USA.

@@robknadle5728 Correct, I've tried 2 times to get my thai GF a US visit visa. Both times paid $150 and both times got rejected without a reason why she got rejected. Kicker was she being told "You Have a good case, try again in 6 months ". Next time I try and get rejected I'm going to get my US Senator involved and get him to tell me what's going on at the the US embassy in Bangkok.

From a website, it's stated that entry by air is unlimited (implies that you have money to do so). The immigration officers also don't say how many times entry is Ok. They are looking more at suspicious passport activity that indicates a tourist is working in Thailand (which is prohibited).

I don't like when someone says "per year". Is that per calendar year January to December, or is it per 12 month moving window? Does my exemption counter reset on January 1, or do they look at the past 12 months?

Good remark. That's also what I said to my yoga teacher who had a fee by month. I asked her "by calendar month, or for 30 days". Being an airline retiree scheduling flights those "details" are critical.

If someone has dual citizenship, and thus two passports (from countries that have visa exemption status), can they alternate the passport used on each entry into Thailand and thus increase their allowable time in the country?

Absolutely not. That is why they collect your fingerprints almost each entry/ exit, so they can be cross-referenced if using multiple passports.

Wouldn’t think so. Both passports will have the same name and date of birth so they will be 99% certain you are the same person, a quick check of the photo and fingerprints and they will be 100% certain

I spend easy 150,000 thb every time I come twice per year. I would come easy six times per year if I knew I wouldn't get turned away. That is everyone's worst fear. Thailand is losing my money in their economy because of their rules
