Max Wall (1941)

No title - Max Wall, comedian.
Probably filmed at Pathe studios, London.
Max Wall enters, prancing about and 'singing' how he has a smile to take him on his way. He realises the (off screen) orchestra have stopped playing and, saying he 'won't bother' turns to walk off. Voices call him back. He begins his routine. He makes a pun on his surname 'Wall'. He then does impersonations of Edmund Everett Horton and a cocker spaniel. He next tells a story about a bee that is swallowed by a donkey.
He then sings a song in a North Country accent. It concerns 'Harold' who is a 'bit of a comic' and tells jokes and stories to cheer people up. Max Wall pulls faces as he sings. (There is a verse about an air raid shelter).
Duplicate exists in Turns Can 16 - see separate record for details.

Like a fine wine, Max got better and better the older he got! When I got on board with him in the 70’s he was the best in he’s field!!

Remember this was radio entertainment not TV in that year. I was listening to the radio in late fifties and early sixties and this stuff was great, along with Wacko, Navy lark, Clitheroe kid, etc, etc. Happy Happy days.

Bearing in mind what world events were going on that year....i would think that it served its purpose of entertaining civilians in cinemas in between dodging Luftwaffe bombs. (He even survived a Zeppelin bomb which destroyed his house in WWI). Besides...what's not to like about funny faces. The world was not yet ready for his famous walk later on!
