The characters shown already exemplify that statement. Which is absolutely wonderful.

The League universe fits a fighting game so well. I've always found it a bit disappointing how it had so many cool character designs but you couldn't fully appreciate them in-game because they're tiny moba-game characters. Also, i'm calling it right now: Ahri nude mods are gonna be a thing like in the first week after release lol

I love to see Max this excited for something, it's genuinely warm and uplifting. I love when you watch someone and you KNOW they're speaking about something that really moves them at their core, as new/refreshing entrants into the fighting game world do for our homey, here. I just wanted to say that seeing your genuine enthusiasm was really quite lovely, Max - your "neurons firing" comments are how I feel when I see FromSoft trailers, for example.

Max's reaction in the stream when he started scrolling down and down at the characters available in League was hilarious. "League has how many characters?!" Also his reaction when he found out that Talon had a Strider skin and had to step away for a while was gold.

i can only hope they at least put a 1vs1 mode in this damn game. i really dont see how in the hell it can even bring casual players without a 1vs1 because if they dont, then they better have a extreme way of teaching new players on when it is their turn to press a button and get out of a corner from being hit by multiple things at once

@@thedesireguardian2470 Riot's main selling point is that their games evolve through time and not just a one time thing (well exception for Riot Forge but that's another branch for different devs). It's a must that there will be more than just 2v2. Maybe a story campaign and more.

This is true. The moment I saw Faker's Zed outplay against Ryu, my eyes widened, neurons activated and told myself "how the fuck-". There I started maining Zed till the point I'm proficient with him. Not playing him that much anymore but seeing cool shit is always inspiring, whatever game it is.

LoL is actually a great game, it's the fact that it has *so many players* that make the community awful. You remember toxic people a lot more than nice people. It's just the nature of how something with 100+ milion players will be. I mute everyone when I start a League game immediately these days and it made my experience playing the game 10x better.

16:23 this graphic isn't meant to show that they're using dedicated servers, just that they're routing traffic (likely p2p traffic) through their own networking backbone. this hides player ip addresses and can often decrease latency, so it's a smart thing to do if you have the resources (steam offers this to developers too, for example).

Yeah, it's basically using a VPN but from them to go through the shortest server path. Useful as heck, I live in LAS and my ping is 43ms when playing League with other people from different countries, now imagine adding rollback to this, and it's just a dream came true.

They really know what theyre doing by releasing this trailer the same day as the Arcane season finale.

One enormously important aspect of fighting games is cool character design, and coming up with those can be difficult. League's been doing cool character designs for literally a decade. There's so much pre-built material for game designers to work with in League. There's everything from horror monsters (Fiddlesticks or Hecarim) to cute mascots (Yuumi or almost any Yordle) to outright psychopaths like Jhin. And they're all incredibly well designed, with backstories, the works. These first games out of Riot Forge are really goddamn promising.

@@iamthedave3 the League community usually doesn’t like the newer designs mainly because they seem to stem away of looking distinct or unique on their own (Such as the memes of newer male champs always having abs or Females always having the same faces) considering in the past, there WAS more variety in how they exactly look, and even involved stuff like monsters and different species in comparison.

My jaw dropped when they showed the new art style of the game. I’m already excited for the tournaments coming. Hopefully they continue to show more characters and details early next year

"Gameplay should be inspiring." I think this is true for all games. In my opinion there should always be an element of "I want to play this game because of how cool it looks when I watch someone else play it".

I appreciate Max geeking out over the technical stuff in the trailer and explaining how it is emblematic of certain design philosophies being baked into the game. I mean, to me it just looks cool even without knowing much about it, but Max laying out what's being signified makes me more excited about the game in the future.

For anyone upset that he said "it's not about newcomers beating the pros," the implication is that a newcomer will have to put in the work to become that good, not just rely on controls. You can do that AND simplify control schemes to let the reads and mechanics shine through.

That's nothing short of delusional. Maybe, riot rules over the moba department. But once it puts its feet on fighting games' turfs, it'll be like the underdog trying to conquer the champions. Be realistic, riot will never be able to dethrone arcsystem works, netherrealms studios, capcom or Bandai namco.

The fact that this is set in the League verse and they want to develop the game over the years means that it could have a n increasingly massive roster of characters. I'm so excited!

A vertical slice is meant to be an end-to-end representation of what the experience could be, and is meant to be delivered as quickly as possible. Some pieces of the slice may be created such that they will be reused or extended in the full game, but many pieces are "fake" - they get the job done for the slice but may have poor performance, may not be resilient to errors, may not communicate with other systems, and may not be easily extendable. This slice seems to represent Riot's goal - I mean, they just showed it off! - but they probably have to rebuild 70%+ of what's shown here for the final game. And that's before they start adding the tons of characters and stages and content the game is sure to have. Also, I think the networking tech stack is just meant to show that, just like League of Legends, Project L is going to have a best in class online experience - and not just how it plays and feels responsive, but also in the social systems, ranking gains and losses, rewards for sportsmanlike play, penalties for leavers, etc. Project L will likely have progression systems just like League, wherein players can grind to unlock new characters and skins. It will also likely have seasonal and other events. Basically, if you're a fighting game player unfamiliar with League of Legends you should buckle up for the breadth of experience Project L is going to deliver.

The issue with addiction, toxic addiction in particular is the horrid dichotomy of liking something even when you hate it. Like, addiction isn't really that you can't have enough of it, it's that you don't get to have 'enough'. That's not up to you anymore. You will be sick of League, and still Like it. You will hate playing it, and still Like it. People think we use because it feels good. It will literally make you sick, and be killing you... and you will still, like it. It'll take your time, and your energy, and it will change you, and it'll still - feel good too. Sickeningly good at times --- absurd, really. So yeah, League is a blast with friends. It always will be. But for some of us, you only get to want it to be for awhile. If you've the personality type to not get hooked, great. We all have a 'type'. I smoked cartons in Iraq and quit on a dime. Thought nothing could hold me down. ------- There are better ways to spend time with friends. If you still have them when it's through. I miss them.

I'm gonna imagine that the art style is taking advantage of their recent push to have their 3d Netflix show and their mobile/console version of league to have much more animated and detailed models. I wouldn't be surprised if the art or structural assets are being somewhat shared.

Man, this is crazy! I've been in love with Runeterra for a very long time, though I just can't get into League itself, I still love Legends of Runeterra, and Team Fight Tactics! I'm so glad Riot is getting into other games now too so we can all experience Runeterra our own way!

Really like that it looks like they going for the simple imputs but lots of unique moves and synergies and combos and stuff to make up for that

There is so much man 155 champs is a lot and every champ has good storys well just 3 dont but yeah most of them have great storys

I think a lot of league's visual stuff will transfer nicely, cause characters are tiny on screen so they already have good silhouettes and some nice keyframes to make them pop. Blowing that up and adding some texture with the new models is bound to look pretty sick. Can't wait to see the facial anims in like 1-2 yrs.

The fact that I played the moba for 10+ years being put into different genres and a netflix show reignited my love for this brand. So many games to play from one company now.. I would have never thought about this when I began my league journey years ago.

This game looks sick so far! The stuff you could do with that rewind ability looks so dope! I’m excited to see the finished product

Project L went from "It might be alright, I'll probably check it out when it's out but we'll see" to "I NEED THIS!" In the span of one update. Tag team, fun first and crazy gameplay did wonders to get me hyped.

@@rollcaskett1812 Ruined King is indeed very good. The developers have two other games also: Battle Chasers: Nightwar (which Ruined King is HEAVILY reminiscent of) and Darksiders: Genesis. Both older titles are good games, but Battle Chasers and now also Ruined King are just amazing. I still prefer Battle Chasers more but it's pretty close.

@@DozenMarks I've always had my eye on Battle Chasers as well but never played, I still remember getting a glimpse of it when it first released. I'll probably look into that one as well as it's usually pretty cheap, and I desperately need new Switch games.

Riot is killing it right now. The mmo seems to be decent looking and this is quite good. Im happy

God I'm a huge League Fan and lord this looks awesome and I love how actually excited Max is looking at this!

God, the art style and the motion and the colors and the sheer POP of the characters are all the best that I've seen in a long time. This also makes me really really hope that the Runeterra-themed MMO does get finished and ends up being great. I want a modern MMO full of this juicy aesthetic.

He's reaction at 14:39 🤣, i think that Max is a very valuable source of knowledge for the development team of this game, hopefully he will be able to test it early, the game looks very promising!

I LOVE that they want this game to be our obsession for years It's so refreshing to see a game being developed to stick around and not just get you excited for the next product.

I rly dont like how almost every fighting game is succeeding and becoming better but NRS is the one remaining behind. As a huge mk fan I want them to get their heads straight and make a good new game.

Man I still just love max's intro so much, I wish I knew animation so I could make something like that featuring some of my fave game characters, its so hype and sets a great tone for max's content. My friend just told me about this game (he also got me into Guilty Gear and many others) and it looks really awesome!

Oh, this is exciting. I've never played League of Legends, never really considered myself a fan, but with this fighting game, Legends of Runeterra, Ruined King, and Arcane... Boi, RiotGames is doing great

Riot is on one heck of a roll to be sure. LoR was what got me back into the company after I swore off mobas (honestly still one of my better life choices), and after making LoR as good as it is it makes me happy that they're doing such a good job with these other games too.

Easily my favorite part is that when you ask "what kind of fantasy" their answer is "yes". Except far future high fantasy there's a faction for far north vikings, Asian aesthetic spiritual ninjas, pirates, magitech city with a grimy undercity, warring imperial kingdoms, middle easy kings and thieves, celestial worshiping mountain people, magical rodent people,, otherworldly eldrich beings, and an entire set of islands of cursed undead. You want a primordial fear demon in a scarecrow and the time travel kid to fight a samurai who can control the wind and an angry drugged up weasel on a lizard, you got it

@@bguy6778 so not Harpy's specifically but there's a race of animal/spirit people known as Vastaya and there's one named Xayah who has multiple bird features. For magical beings there's a race known as Yordles who are little fuzzy people with magical attunement and one specific one named Lulu has a pet fairy and lives in the fae wilds

Mentioned it during the live stream, but as someone who has always struggled to enjoy fighting games and never got the hang of it, this is 100% something I want to try.

Fortunately, fighting games have Skill-Based Matchmaking, which is a wonderful invention every multiplayer competitive game should have. So, don't worry, you'll only be matched with other newcomers who want to get better (and the occasional veteran who just joined the game, but they'll graduate quickly and you won't see them again). I hope you enjoy your first foray into the genre!

I also highly suggest trying Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid. It's a crazy fun game. I thought I'd hate it, but ended up falling in love with the game, haha

Single button input for specials initially had me a little wary, but after playing a ton of the rising thunder beta I completely loved it. Makes it so you focus more on the fight and less concerned about key input timing. Another thing I really liked about Rising Thunder was mid round special switching to better fit the match up.

It also looks like they are having A BUNCH of specials taking advantage of single button inputs for it so that will really help with making it feel better and open up the possibilities of combos.

I'm primarily just a spectator of fighting games (especially KI), but I'm getting the strong impression this Project L game might be the one to inspire me to finally get a fight stick. The colorful animations and fluid movements are just so dang dope.

Ohh yes , Ekko was already a great character from LoL.... So is Darius. But Ekko looks insanely good as a Fighting game character. Characters shown in this Project L game are just 4 so far : 1- Ekko , the teen white hair dude with the Cricket Bat and his Time rewind capsule on his back.... A great Melee Magic character from LoL. 2- Ahri , the nine tailed mage chick with her Blue Orb.... Overall great and nimble Magic build character from LoL. 3- Jinx , the Blue haired crazy Jinx... She uses Trick ranged weapons sort of , her Gatling Gun and transform into the Shark Rocket Launcher... Overall a great ranged DPS from LoL. 4- Darius , finally the Bulky executioner with the Axe.... A tanky and reliable Melee Warrior who has insane Physical Damage and Physical Resistence along with HP from League of Legends. 💯 *Note* : There are currently 140 Champions in League of Legends , we only seen just a glimpse of 4 of them here ( Ekko , Ahri , Jinx and Darius ). 😅

This game looks absolutely amazing max can't wait to see u get in the lab and main the characters showing us the ropes and everything. Keep up your success max I'm happy for u and I blessed as a friend and fan to always watch your streaming and content its a masterpiece

DOA5LR has 2v2 tag and can run pretty great sometimes even on it's delay based netcode. Obviously not always the case but it is possible. Side note every one should try it, such an underrated game in the fgc

I love this timeline we live in where we dont need to go into the hellscape that is League Of Legends to experience the setting and lore of the world of Runeterra. We have the Arcane netflix series , the Ruined King RPG game, the Legends of Runeterra card game and now we gonna have Project L. Good time to not be a League player.

@@wrequiem1727 I personally so far(10 hours in so early) find it good, but nothing super amazing either. To me it's like a 7.5 so far. Would I recommend it for the price(and especially if you like or semi enjoy the world of LOL)? Yes I would. That's me though.

I want a 3 players vs. 3 players mode like they had in DBFZ. One of my favorite things in any fighting game was being able to have 6 people in one match screaming to tag each other

Seeing Max get so hyped for this is amazing. I was pretty excited for the game as a fan of League also a fan of fighting games. Seeing him so Hyped is amazing~

I am so hyped for this game, one of my favorite games is being made into one of my favorite genres. Can't wait to play my dream team of Taric and Yasuo.

I hightly doubt they'll have Taric on release. I expect the popular champs only and maybe one whacky one like Heimer. But I expect them to try to include a lot of the cast in due time.

You should watch the arcane show that is based on league of legends on Netflix that just came out, it is a masterpiece and a 100% worth a watch even if you are not a league player, and it is great at introducing the champions of league.

As someone who grew up playing fighting games heavey then fell in love with league of legends it brings me so much joy seeing maxs reaction to this stuff

I've been waiting like 3 years for riot to do something with their Rising Thunder assets. I'm glad they didn't totally abandon the design choices that made Rising Thunder unique. I figured that they would keep project L similar to Rising Thunder or else they wouldn't have bought the IP, but I didn't really expect it to be a tag fighter. I'm really excited to see how the complexity in project L develops!

Ok, i gotta admit it. Looking at Max getting all hyped for this proyect, and theorising, loving how unique all this thing looks makes my heart pump happily, my God dude, we all hope it turns as good or even better of how it looks!

Some of the character skills are gonna be nutty in a 2D fighting space. Ekkos rewind is just straight up nasty. Now imagine Katarina with her daggers and teleport, Twisted Fate with his different cards, Jhin with 4th shot being critical, Gangplank barrels.. this is gonna be a dope fighter. Riot has really unique character designs as well and this art style is just perfect to me for some reason. All I ask, is no Teemo 😂🤦🏿‍♂️

A vertical slice is a software development term referring to a fully built out small piece of functionality. More than just a proof of concept, it's a ready potentially shippable increment that is just one small part of a larger whole. All that to say, we can expect the finished product to look a LOT like what's been shown here in the teaser. While this specific piece could be considered Done, this is just one small slice of done functionality; much much more is still in the works. proof of concept = testing of ideas/ideation/experiment and easily disposable. vertical slice = a finished increment, for all intents and purposes Done unless there's a change in requirements.

As someone who’s loved League’s characters/lore for years, it makes me so happy to see Max getting hype about them lol

This is exactly how I would love Street Fighter 6 to look! I love the art-style!

@@jor4114 The engine is not really the issue, look at Arcsystem games. It's all about the finding the right artstyle. But I do agree that Street Fighter 6 could use a better, more consistent artstyle.

a fighting game that does 1v1 and a 4 player, 2v2 system has always been a dream of mine. You and your best bud both into fighting games working as a team to fight 2 others in a competitive way. How awesome is that! What a step forward in team based esports. =o

I keep coming back to this video to watch max and everytime i watch it he makes me feel like i watched this for the first time and i smile from ear to ear like a school kid

I remember trying to play LoL for a handful of months. I just could not learn and get better at it, no matter how hard I tried. It reached a point where I thought it was actively breeding depression, so I walked away. It had some very fun, interesting characters, though. Can't wait to see how Shen translates to Project L.

Watch Arcane Max!!! It was to me the best animated show I’ve seen in forever.

The game itself looks and sounds like it will be great, particularly since they already have a deep pool of characters to pull from. What I'm almost even more excited for, though, is to see if it grows the FGC as a whole, and in regards to esports. I wonder if Riot will end up doing something similar to Capcom Cup, even.

Just sayin, Ekko hitting his grenade like a baseball is a mechanic ripped straight out of a kickstarter fighting game that didn't get momentum a couple of years ago called "Slayers For Hire"

I watch this video like, once every month just to maintain an unhealthy level of hype.
