Canelo my favorite fighter but the guys he beat at 168 to win titles were not the guys around the division or in it that seem the most dangerous Benavídez Charlo Andrade not no damn Plant Smith Billy Joe. You asking them to fight each other when he didn’t fight one of them also Andrade was scheduled to fight Billy Joe and Billy Joe got pop for steroids. Canelo then pass on Charlo And Andrade waited for Billy Joe suspension to be over then fought him. Again Canelo my favorite I have him beating Charlo fairly easy. Tough fight with Andrade and Benavidez but true is I don’t know and he didn’t fight the 3 guys who was seemly more dangerous and who most wanted to see him fight.

He’s much less of a boxing guy than he was in the past. Canelo vs. Plant was a historic bout that took place the same night as UFC 268 and guess where Max was that night. AT UFC 268. Also I hate how if people list the top 10 boxing matchups they want to see most, there are usually at least 3 fights involving Canelo. Makes no sense how the #1 P4P fighter is the most active fighter in boxing. Canelo just fought THIS MONTH and he already has his next opponent lined up. For everyone else it takes months and sometimes a year’s time for their next fight to be made. I know your comment had nothing to do with this but I started typing and couldn’t stop lol.

I don't mind Kellerman but that HBO crew, all of them together couldn't hold a candle to Don Dunphy!!! Dunphy was to boxing what Foster Hewitt or Danny Gallivan were to hockey. Lampley and Merchant said some of the stupidest things in broadcast history. Kellerman was one of the most hyperbolic commentators I've ever listened to, his observations were skewed by his unbridled excitement, he obviously loves boxing! Do you know who Jose Bajada is? Probably not but that is the fighter that Max was professing to be the next Duran back around 2000 . Max gets so excited he loses his sense of context!

Imagine if Canelo retired, would these ducks keep avoiding each other?

I respectfully think that’s what comes with the territory. Same thing happened to Floyd. Personally I think people are tired of the excuses Canelo fans make for him fighting low competition. We already seen him lose, so all the steering away from dangerous fighters doesn’t make sense. When Floyd was boxing he never got all these pity comments and explanations supporting his actions 🤔. Yes he needs to fight all the best fighters in the division. Like real undisputed champion Oleksander Usyk did. He won all the belts and then he went back and fought Tony Bellew because he was the last big name in the division that he hadn't fought. And what did Billy Joe Saunders do to earn the fight besides fight a dreadful match against Marcelo Coceres for a vacant belt? Caleb, Plant squeaked by Jose Uzcategui because he had a great start to the fight and he ran out the clock. Then he fought nobody's to hold onto the belt until the Canelo lottery chose him because he now wanted to become undisputed at super middleweight instead of beat Triple G in a rubber match. Just like the Canelo lottery chose Rocky Fielding, a joke of a fight no one wanted to avoid Triple G and Charlo at 160

I've seen ppl give canelo heat for not going for benavidez or charlo or even yup, beterbiev. I got 2 things to respectfully comment. #1 non of the 168s or 175s going to fight a cruiser weight champ. And #2 give canelo a break, after being undisputed in less than a year and having all those fights back to back and let the man take a break by taking an easy fight going to cruiserweight!!!

He fought his 21-2 sparring partner Avni Yildirim and Caleb Plant who throws dainty ass punches and only has 21 fights. The whole reason Canelo fought 4x in a year is because he knew his competition was weak. He doesn’t need a “break” after weak competition.

Kovalev was over the hill and had a stamina issue. Canelo knows exactly how to pick his opponents. He's the best when it comes to boxing. I'm glad he's only 48 so he should be around for awhile.

Most fighters today take 2 or 3 tune up fights before taking on a challenge and then they're back to tune up. Canelo becomes undisputed within a year fighting 4 times and people are mad because he wants to take some time to become 5 division champion.

That's why Yildirim took step aside money to allow the wbc belt to be part of the Callum Smith vs Canelo fight with the promise the winner had to face Yildirim within 4 months. Had Benavidez made weight, he would have had to face Yildirim next and nobody would have complained. Regardless Canelo faced him within 2 months of fighting Smith, a clear tune up yes but it didn't affect his schedule of fighting in May so I really couldn't complain.

Canelo after this cruiser weight fight Artur B is next. I can’t see him fighting GGG in Sept if he goes up to cruiser weight in May. Let’s see who has the stones to fight a champion in the spring.

@@KeyserSoze23 Canelo doesn’t need to fight guys who aren’t willing to fight other top contenders. In 168 if Canelo didn’t fight them they would’ve kept fighting B level fighters because none but maybe Callum Smith of the UK fan base had clout. At 160 he fought the bogey man twice and Jacob’s. All I know is there is a lot of Canelo hate but not enough hate for their fighter who doesn’t fight champs to unify. This will be his fourth champion in five fights. At the end of the day he’s fighting a champion be it no one cares about the cruiserweight which is why Ustick had to leave it in order to find ‘Joshua to get money but it is a dangerous fight when you consider the weight the canal is going to have to deal with I don’t think it’s a bad move again it’s a calculated move if you want to say at worst. As fans I think we should be focused on getting the other level fighters to fight each other so Canelo doesn’t have to do all the work for them

@Mike I believe you are 100% correct. About him going back down to 175 to unify though I think 175 is where his fights will be wars! Things have to line up correctly to do that at 175. At 5 8” that an enormous task.

It's clear that he hasn't wanted the Beterbiev smoke for the moment. Otherwise, the fight would have been done. It's possible that he's waiting for Beterbiev to age a little bit more or show clear signs of declinement. Remember he did something similar with GGG after a couple of years running from him (he even dropped a belt to avoid the fight).

I think canelo should take up some high level competition at 175 maybe 3-4 fights then step up to beterbiev and put on an amazing show because honestly just finding his way at 175 is better then jumping in wit the top dawg at 175 and having a tough fight. Pacman won the lineal championship as flyweight and was one of the best to ever do it at welterweight, Paquioa's achievements are a cut above any other boxer in history, so you're argument is just silly!

A lot of champs have said they take a hard fight then an easy fight then a hard one again- I heard Tyson say it morales and Barrera say it,that’s if your fighting 3 to 4 times a year

Max is an apologist for Canelo’s cherry picking/ducking. Notice @3:17 Max’s whole entire body language changed as if he was sick of hearing the Benavidez match up, I was even surprised Max didn’t bring up Benavidez as a candidate, it was almost like he was intentionally leaving him out, and then got annoyed it was eventually brought up.

Very true - though I think nobody wanted any part of Andre Ward lol Guy was an amazing all around fighter, there was just no one aside from GGG to really challenge him. He was just that good. Would have loved to have seen Canelo - Ward. GGG - Ward would have been a great fight as well. I don't even think GGG knew what a good mug he had until he fought Canelo. Not that power was Wards game but he threw hard punches when he sat on them and is what made the difference when he fought Kovalev in 2nd fight.

Alvarez got his first belt from Fielding at SMW...so being undisputed in 11 months after ..it is not an accomplishment because you think you recognize a pattern?... You do realize Canelo spars with heavyweights Frank Sanchez and Andy Ruiz. They have been hurt by Canelo in sparing. Frank Sanchez said it in Spanish that Canelo hits as hard as some of the heavyweights he’s faced. No coincidence Canelo is moving up to Cruiserweight. His goal is to win a belt at Cruiserweight then come down and go undisputed at light heavyweight and then retire. Canelo has said this offline numerous times. Ggg, Charlo and Andrade won’t ever get the Canelo fight because Canelos longterm goal is undisputed at light heavyweight. None of those fighters have the guts or balls to move up. #Facts

I don’t think he’s grabbing a belt. Canelo has never fought at this high weight so he’s being smart about it. Maybe once he sees that he can take a punch from a cruiserweight he’ll fight the other top guys.

What's the purpose of making history? Is that even a question? The fact that Canelo wants a belt in a 5th division also doesn't stop him from fighting the guys at 175 in his next fights. I think some people don't understand that 🤦‍♂️. Canelo isn't about to stay at cruiserweight. It's just one fight then he's gonna drop back down to 168 or 175.

Every boxer Canelo has fought since GGG are bums with a title. In SMW division Benavidez is easily the best besides Canelo and Canelo knows it.

my theory on why canelo movin up to cruiserweight is when he moves back down to light heavyweight he’ll clean out that division cuz those punches won’t seem so bad in comparison lol he did the same when he went from jacobs at 160 to kovalev at 175 then back down to all the champs at 168 right after

Max is one of the best in the business. Can’t say I agree about him saying Canelo should go straight into Beterbiev, might need that “warm up” before the big one.

To be fair GGG was on a decline by the time he fought Canelo, plus I had him winning the first fight by quite a margin.

Fighting that high up is hard no matter who it is. I think bivol might be canelos biggest challenge right now

I use to call Chavez Sr a hater for saying that Canelo wasn't fighting the toughest but now i see why he says it
