    Thanks for watching my Mavic Air video on How to Shoot Slow Motion with different frame rates. Is very easy to change between 24-30fps, and 60fps, or even 120fps. Subscribe and comment below if you have any questions, i would like to see how everyone else is using these frame rates.

    Jeff Greene hey Jeff, when recording in 120fps, what should my shutter and iso be set at? My last shot was way to bright with iso set as low as possible. It was bleached out. It was an overcast, partly sunny day. Thanks!

    That's a good video I appreciate the tutorial I will say this it's important to note those are not just little legs to protect the gimbal, they are also receiving antennas so it's very important to extend them for every flight,

    I have a Mavic air I have never flown yet, I'm a bit nervous to fly this expensive device being a total beginner. My wonderful companion bought it for me as a Christmas gift since I had shown interest in the hobby. Videos like these are invaluable to me as a learning tool. I appreciate you posting. I subbed, please keep them coming. That was a very informative video, thank you.

    I would suggest going to an open field or similar, put the drone in beginner mode (thru the DJI app), and just practice flying up and down, landing, then move onto yaw etc. Forget fancy camera work until you can do basic flying. Good luck, have fun!

    Enjoyed shooting footage of the family at the lake this summer with my Mavic Air. Since everything has quieted down I haven't been using my drone and as you get older the forget curve kicks in. Went back to your video on camera settings, using slow motion and just generally getting back into adjusting camera settings on the drone. Thanks for doing these clips Jeff.

    Jeff, enjoy your videos. Just bought a mavic air and realized that my photography course that I took in college as a gut course 55 years ago has changed quite a bit. I am amazed at what you can do with Final Cut Pro. I have just ordered at macbook pro to get into this hobby a little bit more in depth. Your exposure information on other clips will be very helpful.

    Jeff thanks for posting your tutorials, this is going to be super helpful as I start using my Mavic Air soon. Slow motion photography (in general) has always alluded me. From your various tests, I do like the effect that 2.7K/60FPS and 1080P/120FPS give the best, with some subtle differences. For everyday video and still capture while flying the drone what's your go-to camera setting (SD card space no object)? Lastly a silly two part question - 1) Can you adjust the custom framerates, shutter speed, etc. for the Air while using the Quick Capture modes? and 2) I assume as one starts to master photography with the drone you basically can think of it as using the Camera modes to control how you want the SHOTS to record while you use the Cinematic/TapFly/Tripod/etc modes to control how you want the DRONE to operate whilst making those shots... sounds about right?

  • @n0w3lly90

    The legs also contain the aircraft antennas, Jeff... So if left horizontal, you have vertically polarised antennas in a horizontal position, as opposed to vertical and vertically polarised dipoles on your controller = massive dB signal loss at very short distance

    Another great tip is if you are editing at 24p, you can shoot at 30p and slow that down by 10% to give it the cinematic slow. It seems real-speed to the naked eye, but somehow dreamy.

  • @JeffGreeneChannel

    Hi Dan, that is the millon dollar question. It depends on your needs. If portability is the key concern, the Mavic Air is awesome. I have had a great experience with the Mavic Air and would recommend over the Mavic Pro (1) b/c of the camera image quality. The question is when is DJI releasing their next drone (Mavic Pro 2). This was supposed to be announced on July 18, but has been pushed back. I also would definitely recommend the Mavic Air over the Spark. Tough call. If i knew the specs on the Mavic Pro 2, I would say hold out, b/c it will likely improve on the Mavic Pro(1) and the Mavic Air combined.

    Hi Alex, yep should be fine. I am assuming the aerial clips will not be the focus since it is a wedding. I typically shoot in 4k and then down-res to 1080p and am happy with the quality. The music for all of my video for the past year or so have been from Epidemic Sound. Takes a bit to find what i was looking for, but then fairly easily to find "similar" artists/songs, etc. Check em out.

    This question is probably really stupid. But when you select 1080p 120fps is the default play back you get in slo mo, or is it just that In post when you slow it down you don’t lose detail?

  • @JeffGreeneChannel

    @JeffGreeneChannel

    5 жыл бұрын

    Not a stupid question at all. When you record at 120fps, you have basically recorded 4 times the number of frames as you would see normally. However once you put that video clip on your video editor or video player, it depends on what the editor/player is set up for by default. In Final Cut Pro X, it will just play "Normal 100%" speed, so you need to choose the "timer" tools and slow it down to say 25% in this case. That will give you that 120fps (or 25%) slo-mo. Conversely, if you shot at 24/30fps and tried to slow that down by 25%, your video would be noticeable choppy, becuase there are no frames to take out. I hope that makes sense.

    Jeff, thanks for such useful tutorials. Quick question about shooting in higher FPS with Mavic Air... I usually shoot footage with 60 fps (just in case I need to slow down in post) but the final result (after post) is "standard" 30 fps. I use ND/PL filters to get the cinematic blur effect. Now.... how do I go about shutter speed - should I achieve 120 (based of FOOTAGE fps x 2), or 60 (based of POST-RESULT fps x 2)?

  • @JeffGreeneChannel

    @JeffGreeneChannel

    Yep, that's a good question. You will want to shoot with a shutter speed of 1/120 if you are recording at 60fps.

    Woody, that's a good question. I have been in the habit of shooting in 4k when possible and then down-res to 1080p for uploading to KZread. With the 4k source, can crop in quite a bit without losing quality if the final video is going to be at 1080. Aside from that, i don't think it matters that much when the bulk of the content is viewed on small laptops/tablets/smartphones.

    Hei man good video. I have the same drone, but I have a problem with the video when I put the video on the laptop. The image is not clean,in my phone the same video is perfect, Mabe the vga of the laptop is too old.(when I shoot on 60fps and up) have you this problem?

  • @JeffGreeneChannel

    6 жыл бұрын

    Mario ah, i have not noticed the same problem but my laptop is only about 1 year old. But just to clarify, I do the following: 1. Record the video on a removable micro sd card. 2. When viewing on my laptop, i either am using a micro sd card reader, or i am playing the file from an external hard drive. 60fps and up is definitely going to be a larger file compared to the 30fps files, so CPU limitation may be an issue. Should be ok though if you are able to edit in Final Cut Pro x and use proxy files.

  • @JeffGreeneChannel

    6 жыл бұрын

    What's up Boss! Nope it just records more data in the same amount time. So when you take your footage and put it into a video editor for eventual upload to KZread, the default frame rate is going to be something like 30fps. So, when you record at 60fps(kind of slow), or 120fps(really slow-mo), you are able to play all of this data on a 30fps video on KZread giving a slow motion effect with lots of detail.

  • @JeffGreeneChannel

    @JeffGreeneChannel

    6 жыл бұрын

    Jeffrey, i think you'll need some post editing trickery. I don't have any drone sound on the Mavic Air. I don't believe it records audio. But, after you are done flying you could use a smartphone/camera and record upclose to the fountain to get the sound of the water, and just add it in post edit. Or likely there will be a water fountain sound effect if using FCPx or After Effects. FYI, in FCPx you can "detach audio" by right clicking on a video clip to remove the sound. Hope this helps.

    Jamal Khan that is the million dollar question. Either 24fps or 30fps. The important thing is to try and get your shutter speed set to 2x your frame rate. So shutter would be 1/50 or 1/60 for normal recording. If it is too bright, this is where the ND filters will help. Cheers!

    Dear Jeff Greene, I am about to get my very own Mavic Air in a few days time, one of the first few things I want to try ( when I master my flying ) is slow motion video, I'm definitely going with 1080p with 120 FPS after looking at your video. That gives me the effect that I want, however I have one question, I understand the tripod mode itself gives a slow smooth feeling when we move the camera / gimbal, so whenever I want to shoot slow motion video, for the best effect, do I always shoot 1080P 120 FPS in Tripod Mode ? Would really appreciate your reply, thank you !

  • @JeffGreeneChannel

    Hi Isaac, excited for you! Tripod mode is not required as the gimbal help keep movement smooth. However I use tripod when I am real close to objects to keep from going to fast past my subject. 120fps looks better in this situation instead of a high altitude landscape shot in my opinion. Have fun!

    @@JeffGreeneChannel I see ! So based on what you said. Basically I should only use Tripod Mode if I'm in a tight space, tight situation and I want to fly through them slowly and smoothly, only then do I use Tripod Mode with 1080P 120 FPS ? And other than that, if I want to shoot in slow motion for any other situation, all I need is just use Normal Mode and 1080P 120 FPS ? Would that be correct ?

    Yes sir, all good.... So the 120fps is your recorded speed, and Premiere is likely set to a default playback speed of 30fps....I use Final Cut Pro(but Premiere should be similar), where there should be something like a "right click" on the clip once you add it to your timeline, to play back at automatic speed or normal speed. There may also be a "re-time" tool in premiere to play back at 25% as well. Hope that helps.
