@@TW0man4RMY I agree. I like the occasional Marvel flick every now and then, but that's not really the formula that does it for me. Even though a film like Top Gun isn't by any means wholly original or anything new per se, it's very nice to see that there is still room for that kind of film. Now if only we'd get some nice westerns too, or some more sci-fi that isn't Star Wars, I'd be even happier.

@@F-35BLightningII And how many years have you spent in Naval Aviation... specifically the Tomcat community? You got it backwards... BTW, wings swept drops the nose... look-up the "Hoser" spin recovery method.

@@aaronbethea7234 It's still not a maneuver you want to do in a Tomcat. I've seen some people try it in DCS (I know it's a game, but Heatblur got it as close as they could), and it always ends with the other guy either getting a free guns kill, or a maneuver kill, especially in the A model (which this Tomcat is). A B model might be able to pull it off better, given that the engines aren't as prone to flaming out in these conditions, but either way, it's still not a maneuver you want to do. As for what maneuver to really pull... that's hard to say. You could ask a hundred Tomcat pilots what they would do, and you'd probably get 100 different answers. I think the studio just went with "what looks cool", and that's what we got (and, to be fair, it's a cool scene).

That last “Mav…” before the enemy gets lock, you can hear the emotion and fear. He delivered that one word perfectly.
For those that don't know, you can actually take a lot of this scene to heart. Unlike most movies that try to get technical, this film actually nailed it. Every switch, button, handle and lever that Rooster and Mav touched is actually in the real aircraft (F-14), and does exactly what it did in this movie. For example: At 2:03, Maverick cuts both throttles and subsequently opens the cover and pushes forward the _Emergency Wing Sweep_ handle, which overrides the automatic sweep and allows you to manually control it. With the wings unswept, Maverick can make that sharp pull up without as much risk of stalling the aircraft. There is one exception at 3:14. While the circuit breaker Rooster pushes is for the UHF radio, the next clip shows the radar scope turning on (which is accurate to how it appears in the F-14) which doesn't correlate at all to turning on the radio. However, at the same time you can briefly see the _actual_ radio display turning on, on the left side of the screen, displaying "289.50" in bright red. The biggest thing that both the first and this sequel take creative liberties on are the HUDs (the view at 2:21) for the Hornet and Tomcat, which don't look like that when locking aircraft, but more of a diamond than a circle. The way the radar detects the aircraft also doesn't lazily, slowly acquire the target as such either.

the planes - SU-57s - are Russian, but most likely they were bought by an unnamed country and are flown by pilots from said country. The country was never specified in the movie, but having terrain like that, using mostly Russian aircraft, still have some F-14s, and developing a nuclear program the US would rather not exist, it's pretty clearly Iran. Iran doesn't have any SU-57s, but it's possible they might buy some eventually.
If you want to see goosebumps...just see 1:13....cobra maneuver of the enemy SU-57...Oh man..that was awesome.... Loved it...10/10 from my side
Maverick flying like an absolute madman and Rooster just along for the ride lol
cant express it enough, this is just pure legendary every second is insane
Not gonna lie. That bell to the theme song after saying sorry was deep. Almost made you think a perfect ending to a movie. But then they throw in hangman and keep the franchise alive

Let's be clear. Top Gun Maverick, best movie ever. I watched it twice at the theatre. And I still love it!
5:25 is the moment that Roaster & Hangman would forever bond & respect each other; And that phrase of “you look good; i am very good” would be their life long dialogues with each other Only for those who hatch a bonding after life/ death events could relate feel this moment
Movies always show the impossible things is possible ❤️❤️❤️
I literally yelled out, "wha the actual fuck!?" with that evasive maneuver the enemy pilot executed.
I love how majestic the Tomcat looks as it's diving on the Su-57 after that asymmetrical thrust-induced pirouette. Like an eagle diving on its prey

The I'm sorry, I'm sorry Goose , gave me goosebumps ,chills and my eyes started to watering at the same time thinking IT CANT BE REAL THAT THEY ARE GOING TO DIE!!!!! Then , I left the theater with a huge smile..... Awesome movie!!!
This movie has turned out to be right up there on my list of all time favorites, one of, if not the best. Maverick from the opening of the movie, continued until the end, of letting everyone in his units know that anything can be accomplished.
1:14 you could hear the crowd say “whoa”
Nothin beats that evasive move from the Felon from Mav’s missile shot. I was on the edge of my seat in the cinema. Best movie ever made.

funny part is the missile had no track, he didn't need to bleed airspeed the missile wasn't going to detonate.
Turns out, Hangman was ‘very good’.. He has a right to this ego; he’s saved a legend when all options were exhausted. For a fleeting moment in this movie, I wondered whether Maverick and Rooster dying together might have been a very powerful, if unwanted and unpopular plot twist. However, to experience the appearing of a mission ‘backup’ pilot just at the moment when all was lost was just one of a number of master strokes in this movie. Such an epic scene. Thanks.
1:12 hardest scene in movie history
Born in 1981 on a small private airport... we can just say topgun changed my life as a kid. I had the glasses with the bomber coat and even the blue jeans and white shirt first day of school. So glad this movie did justice.

The fact that Maverick was lasting that long against 5th generation fighters in an F-14 with only two missiles, little ammo, etc. and yet he’s still there, he’s not in his prime but he doesn’t need his prime to still be a badass.

I’m surprised that Maverick and Iceman didn’t use flares in the first movie.
The fact I keep coming back to watch clips shows how good this film was
“I’m sorry Goose” Completely got me😿
I can't stop smiling at how Rooster is going from one "Holy S**t" to another.
Don't you just love it when one of the best soundtracks in the movie doesn't get released
That crazy Russian maneuver - and then the two shots from Maverick's cockpit of approaching the weirdly spinning Russian plane and then flying away from it with Rooster saying "what the fuck was that?" Sheer movie genius magic!!!!
This was instantly one of the best dogfights ever on film
I was on the edge of my seat for this entire film. It was like being on a IV adrenaline drip. I watched this and the first film back to back, and man did they nail the casting for Rooster. He's damn near idenctical, and the scene in the bar when he's playing the piano choked me up. Now excuse me while I go an play VTOL VR for the next 48 hours.
The F14 was and still is my favorite plane of all time. F4 Phatom is in there but don't tell her (LoL) The F14 Tomcat is truly a beast and can take all kinds of punishment. Its so iconic bringing it into this movie and awe inspiring too me. Great job to everyone involved
I could watch this scene a million times and I would still get shivers up my spine for how this movie showcases the courage and the bravery of the American aviators !
1:12 - That was cool
This movie is perfect. I truly do not have one bad thing to say about it. Thank you, Tom.
That was seriously the best aerial combat acting I've ever seen in my whole life.
This somehow gets even better every time I watch it 🙂
Watching in three different occasions the aircrafts coming out of the smoke is just amazing. 1st scene, the "enemy" aircraft, the danger. 2nd scene, the old-good F14 chasing a 5th gen aircraft with its gun like a deamon out of hell. 3rd scene, the savior, the all mighty F/A-18 emerging from the ashes of the aircraft it just blew in the sky. Amazing.
I know there were no real f14's to fly for the production of this movie, but the CGI at 2:11 looks so good for some reason.
Splitting the throttles coming around. Beautiful reference to "86. Hitting the brakes he'll fly right by
The attention to detail and continuity of these shots are an amazing touch... at the start of the scene you see two missiles mounted outside on the wings, then it's down to one after the first one is fired (on the right wing after the left one was fired), and then none when they fire their last one in the canyon.

When I was a kid, I watched Top Gun when it came out in theaters. I was horrified by the death of goose. 30-something years later I took my own kids to see the movie. I whooped and hollered when Hangman broke through the smoke of the flaming wreck he killed. Everyone in the theater cheered and clapped. It was definitely one of the best movies I’ve ever experienced in cinema. My daughter was blown away by the Darkstar scene and the fact that the Su-57 Felon basically pulled a Kulbit on Pete and threw him a curveball. She asked me “How can planes do that?” And I just responded “modern technology.”
Top Gun Maverick has to be worth one of the greatest movies of all time in the action genre! Every scene was perfect. This final dog fight is how you create intense entertainment. The music really brought it to life. I hope Top Gun Maverick gets nominated for the Oscars: 1. Best Picture 2. Best Director 3. Best Actor (Tom Cruise) 4. Best Supporting Actor (Miles Teller) 5. Best Adapted Screenplay 6. Best Cinematography 7. Best Sound 8. Best Visual Effects 9. Best Film Editing 10. Best Original Score 11. Best Original Song (I Ain’t Worried or Hold My Hand) 12. Best Production Design I will be very upset if Top Gun Maverick doesn’t win best picture.
