Hickok really goes to show that fancy editing, camera work, lighting etc doesn’t always equal quality content. It’s the simplicity and outstanding commentary that keep me coming back

@@konmoe121 The Swiss rifle is very accurate, but I favor the Mauser. Mine has matching numbers, German markings. Have never fired it. It's in great shape. Have a friend that collects the Swiss rifles. Anything German or Swiss is high quality engineering and mettalurgy.

Your "Mercedes" analogy was actually very enlightening and an excellent teaching tool. I had never thought of the "Mauser" weapon system in that light, however it would be difficult to argue with the fact that much of the weapon systems manufactured by the German people at that time were indeed extremely high quality, as they are to this day. Bravo for your teaching sir, and well done!

I have an original Vets bring back 98 I bought 20 years ago at a country auction for $70. As I was walking away they gave me the bring back papers All matching numbers. Was missing the firing pin , probably taken out to “ deactivate “ the rifle. I replaced it and have shot the rifle a good bit.

the russian capture is actually pretty rare, its the first modell that got produced and serviced 1935 if i remember right because its all machined. For example the iron sight at the front is missing what we call "Kornschutz", the round barrier around the iron sight on the left, if it has grooves or notches you could put a guard around it but if not dont do that. second thing i dont know the english word for it but the rings that hold the Barrel with the wood is in one piece and not welded together its the second part thats from the first models that came out of the factory and those are machined as well. The negative thing is the wood its called "schichtholz" they glued the wood together and thats why it has red spots all over the place and is not sanded from the refurbishing, thats what they did back in the day 1943-1945ish it was cheaper but a lot heavier thats why the butstock has that cup at the end that prevents the wood from cracking. On the older versions they used "nussbaumholz" nut wood in english i think? with just a rough small metall plate not going around the buttstock. So all in all youve got a first Gen Machined barrel, the iron sight and the hold rings everything else is later in the war so the newer models. If the other one has a iron sight that cant be adjusted its a Mp40 sight what they called volkssturmgewehr 98. and theres the small piston missing at the front greetings from germany

#metoo How’s has yours been? I haven’t been really sick, just out of energy and light headed.

Always so much fun & entertaining, and of course educational. I have a Turkish Mauser, I don't know why I have a date of 1896 on the brain, I'm not 100% on that, it's just what is in my memory. It's still in the box, has been for 23 yrs ever since I bought it. The trigger assy is in a plastic bag full of some kind of spackled grease and it came with about 5 of those small mags and about 25 rds. I've never shot it, I've only taken it out twice, once after I bought it and then again like 20 yrs later to show it to my boy, he was about 10 yrs old, he couldn't handle it obviously, maybe still not yet, he's almost 12 but I'll be giving it to him. I bought it for $75 before 2000 and what drew my attn to it was that we went on assignment as a family with my dad to Incirlik Air Base in Adana, Turkey from 76 - 78 when I was 10 - 12 yrs old and I loved it, well, I was a kid, maybe a little older and I would've hated it like most of the adults Lol. Thanks for your awesome shows.

el modelo 1943 o m43 es igual como este carabina. Es un Mauser, pero de Espana. ^_^ Las balas son iguales tambien, 7.92x57 o 8mm Mauser. ^_^ perdoname, espanol no es me idoima primera.

Growing up with automatic detachable box magazine firearms was fascinating until actually using some. What's NOT to love about the convenience and simplicity of fixed tubular magazine fed long guns as well as THESE fixed boxed magazine rifles that can be loaded or reloaded via strip clips? Guns like these are some of my favorite because of their simplicity. 🥰 Wouldn't need more than 20 rounds anyway, 5 should be enough, while 10 would be comfortable and 40+ would be excessive. 🤪

Hard to imagine charging the enemy with a five shot bolt action rifle BlitzKreig style.

Reload mechanism and sound is music to my ears. Don't know much about guns but i guess i found the one i love.

Always a pleasure to see a kar98k in action. I've got two of them myself, a Russian Capture and a Balkan capture example. My RC is a DOT marked, made in 1943 in Waffe-Werke Brunn, in the Czech Republic. It's neat since it is a mid-war example with an early or pre-war stock and a late-war, stamped triggerguard and floor plate. It's waffenamts are intact as well. My Balkan capture, well its a little different. It was made in the Mauser-Obrendorf plant in 1944 so it's a BYF 44. The milled triggerguard matches the receiver and barrel but everything else is a total mismatch. The exposed metal on it is nearly in the white, the bluing is pretty much completely gone. But beneath the wood line, all the bluing is intact so it's weird. Another thing is that the waffenamts are completely defaced, on the barrel and the receiver. o_O Who ever used it after "liberating" it from the Wehrmacht must have really hated them. The only thing missing from this video was a bayonet charge. But other than that, excellent video. ^_^

Nice flashback! The first rifle I ever bought was a Yugo Mauser. My dad and I tore ours down and did the best we could to make 'em stand out a bit better. One of my sons has been shooting it with me and today I set about fitting the correct sling. Hmm, the front fixed sling is supposed to be on the left....why oh why is mine on the right..... Flash back to the days before kids when I was cooking off Cosmoline in my new wife's oven and how difficult it was to fit the front sight hood. Thankfully a few minutes in the garage was all it took to flip her over. Thanks as always for your videos!

The most exiting and interesting experience i have ever had was shooting in 2005 in Millville OH Mosin 7.62. Mosin was made in Poland in 1956 , if I recall, in Radom. We were shooting ammo made in Czech.

It breaks my heart that it’s become so difficult and expensive to find bolt action milsurps, they literally shaped my childhood!!!! I’m in my mid thirties now and I miss walking into every gun store and seeing a dozen of them sitting in every shop for $80-$150 .

The deals are out there, you just have to be persistent. I scored myself a kar98k for just under $200 back in 2017. Plus I even saw a mauser M43 in 8mm for $150 back in 2019.

I was doing some work for a old man who collected guns. I picked up a BYF all matching numbers duffel cut some guy bought back from the war. Awesome rifle, my hunt continues for a complete stock.

Amazing how the most simple and generic looking bolt action is also the most magnificent to look at

yup some big boy calibers were standard issue back then. 30-06, 8mm mauser, would not wanna be on the receving end of these slugs. But NATO decided on lighter calibers to decrease weight. However, it would have been cool to keep the .30 cal in machine guns instead of the 762x51 nato round which seems to be standard in almost all medium machine guns today.

My friend has a 1937 Russian Mosin Nagant that is also very accurate, at 75 yards open sights I was able to put three rounds inside the diameter of a quarter. I was quite impressed after giving it a go

Yes. The Germans have always had a wonderful weapon aesthetics as well as the weapon itself. And not only with regard to weapons and military equipment. In general, it is a technically talented nation. The Germans just had to listen to less swindlers like this Austrian.

I had a Argentine 98 and it's was the best firearm I've ever owned.

Bought a Frankenstein 8mm Mauser Mil Surp rifle for $50 at Big 5 in 2000 as a novelty. It has a stamped barrel and bolt 1932 Germany and other parts with Turkish markings. I refinished the stock, the ammo is expensive and hard to find, but a hoot to shoot.

The 7mm and 8mm Mausers are, in my opinion, unmatched classics. So fun to shoot!

This is the most classic rifle in my opinion.

I also have a captured Mauser with the electric pencil marks on the bolt. Some of my numbers match, and some don’t. There should be a world wide numbers matching trade for the WW2 Mauser. Lots of people could semi, or even fully complete an old Russian captured rifle. Anyways, We have a ‘bring back’ Luger P08 from my Late Grandfather, and I’ve shot it lots. Loved your commentary a few years ago Please do another! Or maybe something else! I have a .765 early Sig I believe made in Czechoslovakia…. Dirty Birds and All! The same as Ian did with the ‘Himmler’ pistol video 32 cal was the pocket pistol in those days… Still very small.. Everything locked away in a safe deposit box, but for you Hickok45…. I can make things happen🤔😎😉🇺🇸

My favorite rifle I own is a czechoslovakian made mauser for the germans, and rechambered by the israelis into 7.62x51. Such a fun rifle and having it in 7.62nato makes it all the more fun

I found my K98K Russian capture for sale on a bulletin board at my gun range about 10 years ago. paid $300 for it, it’s one of my favorite shooters

The best Bolt-action-system ever, and the savetyest as well. Millions of copys and modifications speak enough about. I use this rifles since 1990 for hunting and target-shooting, would not change against Blaser and others.

I got one of this chambered in 30-06. The Norwegian army got acces to a lot of the german forces weapons left here (in Norway) after WWII. They changed the barrel for the 30-06 and put it into service along the Garand. I also got a Gebirgsjagerkarabiner g33/40 in 8x57, it has about 4 inch shorter barrel than the K98, overall length is about 99 cm. Man, that one kicks like a mule! For a while after the war, the police force had those as their standard rifle, and some of them were just terrified of shooting it😅

Honestly, I think that kind of rifle might be cooler than a full-matching one. Every single part of it has its own history, one rifle might be an amalgamation of 10 rifles that have seen the worst part of the worst conflict in the history of mankind

Love my RC. Bought it in 2013 for $400, thought that was a bit high but I wanted one. Now I see them at $600 plus. Damn that supply and demand!

My Dad passed away and had one of these which I now have. It's a 1939 660 FB Radom and all the serial numbers match. I understand when the Germans invaded Poland they took over the Radom factory and made the "Polish" Mauser. After the war, many of these rifles went with the Jewish fighters when they went to the middle east. I believe it was a gift to my Dad from a friend.

I've got one that I have confirmed as a Russian capture. 1942 and surprisingly, mostly matching. I love that gun, came with a bayonet too when I got it.

Only Barrel and Receiver matches on RCs. The numbers on the bolt and stock were added by the russians.

I also have a Russian capture K98. I read a long time ago that the red in the stock is from a glue they used to laminate the wood. Mine has a very beautiful red tone to it because of that.

I have one of those! I shot a 1975 Chevy Impala right through the radiator. Bullet travel through radiator, fan blade, flywheel and lodged into the engine block. Crazy ass powerful!

I've always loved sporterized 98s

I picked up my K98k RC a few years ago for $750. Mine was fortunate enough to come with a hood for the front sight and a cleaning rod. It has both stamped and milled parts so it is a mid to late war example.

My Mauser, is just a lowly vz24, not a 98, but I absolutely love this rifle. I always appreciate seeing these rifles in your videos. Thank You for bringing it back out

Mauser made an amazing rifle. Ive seen a 6.5 Swede Mauser made in 1903 ring steel at 200yds just as accurately and easily as it did when it left the factory.

I used to collect those RC k98s. I would take them apart, wipe the stock down with Acetone to strip off the Russian shellac and I would toss all the metal parts into an Acetone bath to take off all the crummy Russian paint. The German blue steel was always underneath the paint. The stocks looked so much better the way that they were originally.

Karabiner 98 kurz, Mauser did those rifles too :D It's one of my favorite bolt action rifles. It can stop anything :D Saw a guy restore a bayonet for the karabiner the other week. It's crazy how much I actually know about weapons, considering that im swedish and has never own anyone, and it's not easy to get a permit either really, not like in the states where you can own a minigun hahaha

Hickok45. Sadly I am not among those privileged to own a K98 Mauser. I did regrettably let a beautiful Persian Mauser slip through my fingers YEARS ago not knowing at the time what I had. It was a fine shooting riifle. I do have a “poor man’s” K98. What’s that? A Yugoslavian M48. It’s a fine shooter and the European Elm stock is beautiful. I envy you and your extensive collection of firearms. If you’re not familiar with the Persian Mauser Hickok they were made by CZ in Chezoslovakia and the quality of these rivals the best of the German produced Mauser. All the best to you Hickok45. Thank you for another great video. With a wave of the hand from the free state of Florida. I’m out.
