Funniest tool I ever made use of was a ⅜ drive ¼ inch socket. Funny because I was consistently told it was stupid. I used it backwards (⅜ side) because a bolt I had to wrestle with on many jobs has a square head and normal box wrenches only had about 2 inches of travel before I had to start over.

The Shockwave was introduced at Shot show 2017. They unveiled it with our OPSol adapter and Aguila minishells. That day, quite literally was the day when a lot of people learned about minishells at all. For our part, we started the project in 2013, and started selling the adapter in 2015. With minishells, your middle school kids can handle the Shockwave, but the whole idea behind our adapter and minishells was based on the Maverick 88. A simple, effective, cheap platform for the family for home defense. Now, if Federal and Aguila would ramp up production.........................

The Mossberg Shockwave is NOT useless but very practical. I have upgraded my Shockwave with the DEFENDER TACTICAL UNIVERSAL MINISHELL ADAPTER to cycle BOTH 1 3/4" to 3" shells... I would ALSO purchase the HIGHBALL FRONT BEAD SIGHT from DEFENDER TACTICAL because the factory front sight bead makes you shoot too high, this corrects that issue and it works like a charm!!! I have a Mossberg Shockwave 590S which can cycle short shells (1 3/4"). 8 of them can fit in the tube magazine. And much less recoil. Good for home defense. Laser and flashlight for shooting from the hip or in front of your chest. The 590S has a built-in adapter which allows it to cycle 3" through 1.75" 12-gauge shells interchangeably.

The 590S has its attributes. The problem with it is the problem with all shotguns. When you are racking the gun under duress, in odd positions, etc....as you may defending your home, the minishell can flip, or even exit the ejection port. Put another way, a regular shell needs a receiver with a 3" opening. A minishell needs a receiver with a 1.6"(ish) opening. Only the OPSol Flex Adapter transforms the receiver into a mini-receiver.

Thanks for the video. I can see where people who have trained extensively with regular tactical shotguns would find the Shockwave frustrating to use. It's a different firearm. For the rest of us, the Shockwave could serve a purpose in self-defense. Making hits isn't that difficult, and 12-gauge or even 20-gauge loads from a fourteen-inch barrel are going to be effective at making stops.

My wife and I love this firearm. We take it and a 45 cal. Glock when we go camping and backpacking.. It is easy to carry and with some buckshot and slug shells. You have yourself a nice protection setup for that just in case you have a wolf, mountain lion or bear that you need to protect yourself from in the woods. Its the type of firearm that you need to do some shooting with to get use to the feel of. I recommend starting off with bird shot shells and working up as you get use to handling it as those buckshot and slug shells do step up the need for understanding this firearms proper handling techniques. As for it being a felony to own is bull-crap. It is 100% legal as long as you do not put one of those butt stock kits on it.

We are talking about the average person that buys a 12 ga. shotgun without a stock. Even those who shoot often and know what they are doing, I’d argue 98% of them aren’t at the range practicing moving and shooting with their shockwave on the clock. In contrast, at least some people do that with a shotgun with a stock, a handgun, and a rifle (or at least one of the 3). They’d be much better off with one of those three they practice with under a degree of stress (or a more self defense oriented version of the gun they use to compete with).

Nice gun. I couldnt justify the cost when i have a 500 with an 18 inch barrel and a birds head grip. 4 inch longer than the Shockwave. But if I had the money....

I got a 590 Shockwave, and I have difficulty using it with 2.75” shells w/00 buckshot. I can’t hang on or to aim as it’s back in my face. I need to try the mini shells, or I need a pistol brace. I’d rather probably just have a 20” pump shotgun unless pistol brace issue is cleared up.

The Shockwave, pair with a Defender Tactical minishell adapter and a full tube of 00 buck is a fantastic home defense option.

Sold my Mossberg shockwave SPX which only holds 5 rounds of 12 gauge for a 590 Persuadeor which holds 8 rounds of 12 gauge and I put the pistol grip on it so it is almost as compact as the shockwave !!!

Is there much difference between a 20 gauge vs a 12? Less recoil?

Sold mine after about 8 shells through. It’s a nice novelty gun I guess lol. Shouldering a firearm is a nicer feature.

I keep 3 shells of horndy critical defense 12G 00 buck in mine. not 5 cause I don't want to damage the spring. It sets right next to my bed with the safety on. I hear a bump in the night it makes the CHUG-CHUG sound and we go for a walk. Its a wonderful firearm and I love mine. Makes me feel safe and warm all over

Thanks a good fun demo. But what about with a pistol grip? I always thought a pistol grip would handle recoil better.

Pistol grips snap the wrist. The recoil ends up where you grasp it at, you need to cock wrist awkwardly and you end up eating the recoil instead of letting it rock / roll to deal with the recoil impulse. it's not a good set up at all , at least for me IMHO. 6 shot or lighter with 2 3/4...Mine was the older "persuader" in 12 Ga. It's just the wrong set up. This makes way more sense and eventually I'd like to try one of those...

I view the Schllockwave pretty much same as Jeff Cooper said of the grip safety on a 1911: "It's the perfect answer to a question no one ever asked." The Schlockwave seems to serve but one purpose, and it seems to do it well. It SELLS to those who cannot utter a complete sentence without the word "tactical" thrown in somewhere.

The shockwave is just Mossbergs version of the Tac-14 and there are a number of militants and bomb makers that would vehemently disagree with anyone calling them useless… you just need a crystal ball and some candles to get their feedback…
