How a Kar98k Works
Фильм және анимация
A 3D animation showing how a Kar98k bolt-action rifle works. Cinema 4D was used to create each individual part, as well as animating everything. Substance Painter was used to create the wood stock texture. Corona renderer was used to render everything. This animation took me over 500 hours to create. You're right, you need to go around Belgium first.
If you think about it, the Kar98k’s safety is really intuitive. In the up position, it doesn’t allow the user to properly aim down sights, telling the user that the safety is on.

There are 3 safety settings. Left allows you to pull the trigger and cycle the bolt, up allows you to cycle the bolt but not pull the trigger, and right stops any movement at all.

The issue is that the firing pin has to be back for the safety to be on - you have to leave it with the pressure on the spring the whole time, which can wear it out.
@scootergrant8683
Жыл бұрын
Well some could argue that's a bit of a pain. Being able to sight up a target and then click the safety off when you are about to shoot is something quite useful.
Most comments are saying how complex it is, but compared to most firearms it is incredibly simple, which is really amazing. So much utility was managed to be done with so few mechanisms. Many people could design a bunch of individual machines to do each task, with many moving part, high complexity for the user and in maintenance, and low reliability. Yet this genius managed everything with such an efficient design.
@winchharry
Жыл бұрын
In fact: An amazing, genius engineered mechanism. As a German design engineer I would say: "Simplicity is the result of maturity." ;-)
@asahearts1
Жыл бұрын
@@langbakke9953 The locking mechanism is really simple, for example. Compare locking lugs that have to interface with a barrel extension, bolt carrier driven by piston that rotates the bolt, etc. Instead, you just move this little knob up and back, then front and down again, and everything just works. Edit: In terms of manufacture, yes on both of those, but like any other rifle there's plenty of other machines and work that go into it. Like you need to heat treat several parts, especially the springs. You need a tap and die to make screws, etc. Some of the parts are probably milled, everything has to be cut at some point. These are all standard.

Fantastic video. I'm in a class, and one of the weapons we are covering is the Kar 98. I couldn't visualize the ejector worked. This was perfect.
Such a simple action. Yet so beautiful in motion.
This animation looks better then most modern cartoons.

Perfectly. That's why the Mauser action is one of the most successful designs and is still used today.
Hands down my favourite gun ever!
a classic! I love the full name too, the Karabiner 98-Kurz... beautiful.
500 hours to create this animation? This is insane

Y E S to cocking my bullet :) this is totally normal comment
An absolute masterpiece. Picked up 3 ww2 era rifles recently and I figured out how to release the bolt on the SMLE and the Mosin and the M1 Carbine but had no idea that little side piece there kept it in and ejected spent casings. I adore American and German engineering.
Everytime I play war zone on Cod MW and I use the Kar98k, I’m going to think of this video.

I can still only hear Free Bird playing in my head whenever I watch these types of videos
KZread recommended me the AR-15 video and these videos are really cool. The straight to the point narration, awesome 3D animations and epic background music makes this videos so cool

These mechanical tricks are always interesting! And they often come in such charming shape.

It teaches you how the weapon that many use to destroy assignments functions. Hopefully this taught you how to operate one to destroy your assignment too.

why you want to see an assault rifle and on top of that an ar 15?! I would rather recommend German weapons but overall ar is boring, pumps or bolt action is much more interesting
