My wife's sister used to live on Moui....their first house burned in the Lanina fire. Me, I sailed there once from San Diego on my schooner and spend a month in the roadstead and two months in the harbor....a rare acheivement in the 70's as a cruising boat was only allowed a month per year on any particular island. So I got December in '75 and Janurary in '76. Everything I enjoyed about Lahina Town burned to the ground....except the Banyon tree. I used to be a fireman.....the first fire that threatened Lahina was extinguished...but the officers did not post a fire watch, returned to the station and the Town is history. Shamefull. -Veteran '66-68

Awesome video guys, we appreciate all the support and awareness you bring for folks to visit. All (4) local commercial shopping centers I use to manage in Lahaina are burned down, gone, but not our aloha spirit. Our small businesses definitly need all the help we can get from tourists to inject capital in our society that is slowly but surely rebuilding; our families depend on it. Yes, But I'm still overwhelmed, I knew nothing about Hawaii & just booked in Kauai. I'm thinking I should have picked Maui 😢 a bigger island with more to do....

So great.

We did the Road to Hana all the way to Haleakala National Park this month (January) and loved it! We did Twin Falls on a separate trip and would advise people to get there late afternoon (midweek) and text them beforehand to check if all the trails are open. We had the upper falls all to ourselves! Thanks for all your wonderful Maui suggestions! They were SO helpful. We will definitely get your itineraries for own our next island adventure!

LOVE Maui..wwas in West Maui 2 weeks before the fires . Have a return trip planned for 2025 . Waa planning to go to Oahu in Fall 9f 2024 but might go back this year 2024...Maui is my favorite of all the islands I've visited

@ruchikadutta8353 awesome you will not be disappointed! Wife and I are going to Maui January 25- February 2 again. Kaua'i is a cool island also really laid back grand canyon of the Pacific is cool. Suggestion don't do what we did the first time. We tried to see to much and was go go go. Supposed to be vacation. Now we pick 1 thing a day and go slow. Peace love and God bless 🙌 🙏

My husband and I have been to Maui with my parents and stayed at The Fairmont. I had also been to the Fairmont another time before that. We want to go back just the two of us, but the Wailea resorts are just too expensive for us. We have found a lovely condo in Kihei near Kam beaches and another one in the Napili area. We are torn on where to stay!!!

We love Napili and it is a good way to support West Maui right now by staying up there. Kihei is more walkable which is nice. Yes, Wailea resorts are not dropping prices even with less folks visiting the island.

I was hoping you could settle our debate we have going on with how early we need to leave for the sun rise at Haleakala. We are staying in Kaanapali North Beach area, and I was thinking around 3:30am. What would you recommend? Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

Be nice. When driving here, slow down and then slow down some more. Speeding and lane changes frowned upon. The Best Beach for Learning to Surf in Hawaii is Kalama Park in Kihei. Surf trucks or Surf school open daily. Best Early. Afterward surfing, try Kihei Cafe across the street for good breakfast. And only if you happen to have a death wish, take the back road to Hana or the back road to Kapalua. Be nice.

I don't "do" water submersion in deep water haha, so what are the options to see some of the water features without snorkeling? Kayaking allow to see at least some of the ocean wildlife? Looks like the glass-bottom boat tours are closed during fire covering, so not sure of my options. Thanks for all the great info!

Yes, the Atlantis and ReefDancer were lost during the fire. You can do an Atlantis tour on the Big Island and Oahu. A kayak trip is a good option for you. Hey! Do you have any videos specifically about places to eat? I once saw something called huli huli chicken (I may not have spelled it correctly) being sold roadside on a show and I'd love to try it. Do you know a specific road where it might be found? I'd love to try authentic Hawaiian foods and local favorites if possible. Also curious if there's farmer's markets or any good local farms to visit.

My kids love to boogie board and surf… any suggestions for the beach island/beach to do this?

I used your guide when we went to Maui in July. Going back in October for a girls week and will try everything we didn't get to do the family. We stayed more north in Kihei, this time we will stay more near Wailea so we can walk to more places. We drove the road to Hana in July, I would suggest taking a tour instead. The drive is not enjoyable for the driver.

Have a great girls week in October! That sounds like a perfect getaway. We like the area closer to Wailea, better beaches. Try to go out to Molokini Crater as some great tour companies leave from Kihei and Wailea.

You will almost definitely get car sick going around the curves on the road to Hana. Make sure to pick some white ginger to fix that.

We went to Maui in August and stayed in Kehei and it was amazing, we are headed back this November. We also hit Honolulu to visit Pearl Harbor. We hated Honolulu itself and won’t go back, this time we are taking a side trip to Kauai.

Hey, I’m getting married in Hawaii through weddings of Hawaii and we’re doing a minimoon in Maui. We already have things booked, like flight and hotels, but we want to know more information about the west side of the island. Like what attractions are available, sunsets and more. Also I noticed some places are about an hour away(hotel 45mins from airport) would a rental car be needed?

That is a logical question. You will take the Lahaina bypass to go around most of Lahaina. You won't drive through Lahaina. The bypass opened around 2017 to relieve traffic through town.
